I would have had over 1000 mb, if I didn't keep changing my e-mail address. (the main reason was I needed more space then hotmail ) .. ITS THE FREAKING CHAIN LETTERS! .

I bet its not really 2gb, they just know no one will ever use 2gb so they put it to sound better than the rest. ~ Munchie ~

Yahoo offer 1 gb e-mail and we can not save e-mail with attachment. But in gamil we can save mail with attachment. So we can use it for file storage. So you can find any important file from any part of world.

Well, I know of some ppl who exhausted their 2 gb of gmail and changes email everytime to do that... So I always deleted my trash to save up space... Going at this rate I'm still having 0 MB out of 2+ GB...

yeah,it is still counting now like what you see.although its storage must not come to or be 2Gbyte,we would like to opt gmail to store mail or file for we could not use up the whole capacity at all.certainly more space are better to us,as minding if gmail owns 2gb space.

With Google unlimitly growing, no email host could beat them Some might get close to the space Google offers, but google will outrun them by time. Even if google would be overselling, if they would realy get into a shortage of space they would just buy another server for in their datacenter...

Google is aiming to beat all the other greatest sites and now introducing its many system and features to beat both yahoo and msn. That's why they add this running bar that as long as you continue with gmail, you will constantly have space to store your mail.

*Hopes* Please provide free hosting (And lotsa space!) *End Hope* Yes, it keeps growing until it's a massive overload. Of course, it's a good thing for us, because it's free, and free makes everybody happy. Google has a lot of money now, although it may not show it. They earn a lot just by being a very popular search engine. Gmail is also a reliable email service, so Gmail's the best choice!

Gmail would not stop growing. I heard it doubled it's email storage because yahoo increased their's to 1 gb. I mean I haven't known anyone who uses that much. My old yahoo (250 mb) had over 500 emails and I barely even used 2% of it. Btw, the emails were junk and i checked it every 2months or so. I just wish we could store things in gmail and use it as an online storage for mp3 and whatnot.

Yeah it rocks that Google is giving all of us that amount of space and yes people really do use that amount of space. I for one am only on like 1% so im not one of them. Also, there are programs out there to use the gmail service for files storage so that could be one reason people are using their 2 gig already. Anyway, Google rocks for giving all of us this space

QUOTE(icemarle @ May 17 2005, 03:22 PM) They're probably trying to get everyone to use Gmail, and they'll only need Gmail, so for their whole lives, they'll use up more than a GB of mail? Anyone else catching my drift here? Or maybe I'm just thinking too much... That's it exactly and it relates to what I wrote in the post above.

Maybe it's just me, but it must be that Google wants each person to only use 1 email in their entire lifetime, so an entire lifetime of emails will pile up to 2+GB? Who knows... they're probably trying to get everyone to use Gmail, and they'll only need Gmail, so for their whole lives, they'll use up more than a GB of mail? Anyone else catching my drift here? QUOTE(Odyssey @ May 12 2005, 03:26 PM) Go go Google for keeping up with the technology I must admit I've always been a fan of Google and up until recently had no reason to doubt their business practices, but some stuff I've read lately means that I'm never gonna bother using my Gmail account and even if I did, there's no way I'd just leave all my old messages in there. There's suggestions from some people that Google's reasons for offering all this storage space are not really that altruistic. They're more interested in having a monopoly on all the information relating to the way people use the Internet. The more they know about you, the way you browse the Internet, the places you shop online etc., the more they implement targetted web marketing campaigns. And that's only if their only interest is in making money. Take it to the next level and you're talking about infringement of personal rights. Storing all your personal emails on their servers just makes that job even easier for them. Google Watch outlines a few of the reasons why Google may not be the shining light of Internet virtue that it appears to be.

At first when I received a mail from Google that contained the link for my GMail account, my joy was

Multiple Gmail Accounts As Free Online Storage?
- (8)
I came across this topic which basically says that you can use Gmail to store your files. If
you're lucky, you get some free gmail invites to be sent to your friends when you open a gmail
account. Now if you just keep sending the invites to yourself, you'll end up with lots more
gmail accounts, isn't it? (I've tried it, you CAN create multiple gmail accounts by inviting
yourself) And that means more storage space if you use each account to store 2 GB of things right?
Could it possibly rival other premium data backup services online, most importantly...
Microsoft Says Gmail Is A Virus
- (65)
QUOTE It seems that Microsoft has started flagging Gmail as a virus in their virus scanning
software Windows Live OneCare. Many people are reporting that every time they open Gmail, a warning
is displayed telling the user they are infected with "BAT/BWG.A". Now, either Gmail is a virus, or
Microsoft is generating false positives. Some affected by this "virus" say other anti-virus products
do not pick up the infection — to me, this is a bit suspicious. So who should be responsible for
fixing the problem? Either Google can wait for Microsoft to update their virus def...
