This software allows you to drag and drop files into your GMail account and treat it just as any other physical drive on your computer. A file system is created on your GMail account which allows Windows Explorer to recognise it as a drive and pick up files. A new drive icon appears in My Computer showing every file on your account. With the ever increasing space provided by GMail (over 2.5GB now!) no-one will ever be able to fill it all with emails. This software provides a free way to expand your computer's storage capacity. When files are put onto the GMail 'drive' the software generates an email and sends it to your account, with your file as an attachment. This also means your files can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection. Installation Requirements** A GMail account ** Internet Explorer 5 + QUOTE(viksoe.dk) Please note that GMail Drive is still an experimental tool. There's still a number of limitations of the file-system (such as total filename size must be less than 40 characters). Since the tool hooks up with the free GMail Service provided by Google, changes in the GMail system may break the tool's ability to function. I cannot guarantee that files stored in this manner will be accessible in the future. Despite this, I have been using the software for some time now, and have never had any problems. I have personal tested the gmail drive and it works great but you get security pop ups all the time and if your offline then the drive want work. The upload and speed of it depends on your connection speed as well. How ever with the size of space you get with gmail it is a pertty good drive.

This Gmail Shell Extension is good. It like adding 2+ extra GBs on your hard drive but it slow and you need a Gmail account in order to use it. You can't store every file ext. Like .reg ext. for example. You can't load anything from the drive on your computer, you have to copy it out of the drive in order to view it. Rating: 3 out of 5.

Neat little tool. But it's pretty slow so you couldn't rely on it. Not all files can be uploaded, though. "An error occured: Unable to create file. System Error Message: html2text.bas is an executable file. For security reasons, Gmail does not allow you to send this ty" "An error occured: Operation aborted" I guess i'll just zip it. It looks promising for all the travelling I do... but my memory stick is, obviously a lot faster, but doesn't hold as much stuff... I doubt i'll be uploading 2gb of files to my Gmail drive though... it'ld take a very, very long time, even on 2mbit cable. The shell extension itself, though, is a very fine piece of engineering. If this was open source, I could see many other people adapting it for other email services. Good post!

QUOTE(linkmaster03 @ Jun 3 2005, 03:34 PM) Very cool! I probably won't use this, but it sounds very awesome! Just out of curiousity, what is the name of the drive? Like C: or whatever it is. It doesn't have a drive letter instead it is under the category Other in My Computer saying Gmail Drive so basicly J for example isn't taken.

[ Cp ] What If Gmail Had Been Designed By Microsoft?
(4) QUOTE Today I want to ponder the question: what if Microsoft, not Google, had created Gmail?
What would be the differences in that web mail client for users today? What if we apply some of the
same design rules that brought us Hotmail, for instance? To start, here’s the current Gmail
homepage after you log-in: First of all, we need to rebrand the application name to something
longer. Let’s call this Windows Live Gmail, and add some of the visual elements connected with
Windows. Also, as in Hotmail, there needs to be less space for the email subjects ....

Who wants one? (1) A Google approach to email. Gmail is an experiment in a new kind of webmail, built on the idea
that you should never have to delete mail and you should always be able to find the message you
want. The key features are: Search, don't sort. Use Google search to find the exact message
you want, no matter when it was sent or received. Don't throw anything away. Over 2541.694975
megabytes (and counting) of free storage so you'll never need to delete another message. Keep

Gmail Talk, finally arrived! (3) Gmail recently announced there new service: the new Gmail Talk! Unlike MSN, Yahoo, Skype, ICQ,
it is really small, and fits like a toothpick in a can... I personally didn't download Google

Trillian Pro to use Gmail talk soon, but first, lets take a look at the features! Feature 1:
Snazzy Interface - This interface is way better than Yahoo and MSN, and it doesn't have any ads
or search bars, not to mention an annoying radio or banner at the bottom. Feature 2: Ca....

A Couple Of Interesting Tools

sure if this is the right place to post... but I'm hoping some people might find a couple of

Gmail Upgrade
2 GB+ (8) For a few weeks on Yahoo Mail you can see that they are about to upgrade to a 1GB mailbox (probably
because more people are choosing Gmail). In response GMail upgraded their own mailbox to 2GB and
there is one more surprise ... they are incresing non-stop their mailbox. On www.gmail.com you can
see a counter that slowly increses. I wonder when will it stop ... it's around 2080 MB. By the
way if there is anyone who wants an GMail invitation PM.......
