I remember when i installed ubuntu GAIM was installed on it as one of the programs. Functionality was okay. I wish they had a better interface. Cause it looks liek something made in the old days.. lol. I mean like it looks rustic, old, and outdated.

I used Gaim for about a day, didn't like it too much. It kept rearranging my stuff and the font it showed me would be about five times larger than what the people I was talking to got. It really only cared about what your own window looked like, not anybody else's.

I only just use one instant messaging program, which is MSN of course, the best one out there, I have used ICQ and AIM, but msn is the easiest, and most popular one to use, so im sticking with that lol.

I personally prefer Trillian, they have a paid Pro version, but there basic version does it all for me. They support all the major networks and a couple smaller ones. I'm currently managing 7 IM accounts using Trillian (and yes unfortunately I need all of them) and it works like a charm.

I use Gaim, and I don't mind its interface (that's not really what I look for in most programs..it's the functionality that I prefer). Plus, it's simple. I don't like the programs with all sorts of extra features that I know I will never use (even though Gaim has a few of them).

Thanks. It's very usefull for me cause i use different instant messagers and that takes up my RAM wich i hate. I will try this one to see if it is worth.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to say this but I use trillian, too and it works amazingly for me.. It's much better than the MSN messenger I used before.. Like hmm.. BlackLaser said it supports most of the messengers and the free version should be just enough.. It's simple to use and serves it's purpose perfectly.. At least for me ^^

I use Trillian Pro on my main computer, but on my laptop and on my other computer I use GAIM, because the program is a lot lighter and works better on those PC's than Trillian. I like Gaim, it's easy and clear to use.

I've been using GAIM for a while on my Windows machine, but I'm thinking about switching tp Trillian. I've started having a lot of odd problems with GAIM, such as blank entries in my friends list, which cause the program to quit if I mouse over it. Can't delete them or anything. Plus as stated above by someone else, GAIM looks pretty old. If the GUI was nicer, like Trillian, I might just stick out the odd problem I have.

I love gaim, Open source programs are almost always more stable and more compatible. i like the looks of the newest one with the menu's and such, very sleak and easy to scroll through. The fact that it connects to all the messengers in one messenger is a plus, that way you don't have to have 10 different messgeners open for each screenname and all that junk. I'd recommend it to anyone you wants a straight forward messenger thats not to cluttered.

Gaim 2.0 looks promising, they have just released the Beta 3. I use trillian on my windows and Gaim on my ubuntu linux os. It can be downloaded from http://gaim.sourceforge.net/downloads.php.

Wow.. nice. If the interface was nicer and more functional, I would use it. It has a lot more IM agents than Trillian.. hmm.. maybe this could be the next trillian?

QUOTE(T100 @ Mar 29 2006, 03:09 PM) GAIM is quite a good software. However, I often have problems connecting to the MSN server with GAIM. Probably, MSN has some undisclosed features which block third party software from connecting to them and using their resources, I mean, all the stupid ads in ICQ and MSN are removed from the client with GAIM. These two companies may not be very happy with GAIM.
I get the "switchboard" error from MSN a lot while on GAIM. Not sure what it means, and it doesn't seem to have any effect, it's just annoying!
