I have always wanted to try out Lunix because all of this open source software is helping Lunix compete with Microsoft and Apple so it could become a primary OS for me if I can try it. All the sites I found had versions you had to pay for. Does anyone know where I can get a free version of it?

If I recall correctly, there was some joke site somewhere that talked about a Lunix, but the operating system is called Linux.

Linux is open-source software, so it's free and you can change it to suit your liking (if you know C++). Very few versions actually cost money. You should be able to find a lot of free ones if you just search Google for "linux download" or something.

Knoppix is also good for beginners at Linux, because it has a simple interface and it runs off a CD.

Ok I'll try Knoppix if I can find it. If it runs off of a CD then I don't need to portion my hard drive or anything thanks alot I'll be sure to search for it.

I know of a website where they deliver you Ubuntu Linux (they don't even charge you for shipping) anywhere in the world.

You can either download the version or request a free CD which takes around a couple of weeks to get delivered (really depends on where you live). I've tried this version of Linux and it is really good.

I myself never use linux. My friend is crazy about it though. Personally I dont see the point in it. But if you wanna try it out I would recomend knoppix. You can put it on a cd and boot from that so that way you dont have to fool around with the partitions and you can always just take the cd out and boot normally without having any problems. If you wanna install linux you got to make a partition. Norton has a program for that too. Too me being free is all that linux has going for it.

Linux rocks for some things and sucks for others. Hardcore gaming should be done on windows since all games work on it. ANything else can be done on linux...Any distro of linux is free but some you have to pay for Live Updates and such. I use Suse 9.1 (but 9.2 is out now) and you can get it free from suse.com. I would recommend using either Suse, Fedora, or Debian b/c they have the largest support groups that you can get help from. Hope this helps
