Ok, it's a community related to my site, which is a fansite for the MMORPG "RuneScape", but everyones welcome anyway Also, I'm in need of mods which can take care of the forums too... Ban users who bread the rules... Anyway, I will publish it here when it's finished and up and running, or I will PM you. I need to know how the design is etc, but this mod thing will be posted there, not here. (Maybe this is starting to be a little off topic? lol...)

According to Invision power board's web site, they state that all the versions below IPB 2.0.1 is ulimited post/topic trail version, but from IPB IPB 2.0.1 to IPB 2.1.0 there has a limited posts and topics aswell as personal messenges. So that is legal to run IPB 2.0.1 or below without register it as they are ulimited free trial. I will find the version license changes for you guys.

I've know of a way to check if a 1.3.1 board is license anot but to what I've experience all of the 1.3 are not license, and IPB says you need the board to be license to use it...

I have installed the IPB 1.3, and it works totally fine. But if someone could tell me where I can get 2.0, I would be very, very happy.

There is no real way to get IPB free legally. I have asked around and went to the Invision Power Board website and they have no way to download any IPB free from the IPS site so I guess its not possible anymore. I am trying out free alternatives that are most likely just as good or better. Well good luck! As for the alternatives I heard phpBB has alot of good skins and modifications.

Or you can all try some of the alternatives that I mentioned previously and stop trying to use out-dated software that has some (yes) horrible security risks. If you're going to use IPB, buy it. Because you are going to need the latest version to stay on top of security. Trust me when I say this. Security patches are one of the most important things that you have to take notice of when using web-applications. Especially if your site is getting some decent traffic, because the more people know about you site, the higher the risk of one of them wanting to hack you.

Even unpopular sites. There are people that will go on Google and do a search for websites running forums specifically with a known-to-be-bugged version of some type of software (in this case IPB) and hack random sites. It's happened before, and it will always happen.

IPB 1.2 or IPB v2.0.*(trial) if you don't want to pay. IPB1.3 final is still spreading somewhere around. Alternative way is that if you really like IPB style of board, try Ikonboard. It's Perl CGi board and you can install and run on trap17 server also. Check my thread about Ikonboard topic. dont want to be too off to topic, sorry

i'm having trouble just deciding on which to pick, the mods it has are a big thing for me, so is the cost (if any), and the portal I can combine it with. I originally used phpBB, now I'm using IPB 2.1 (I don't have that board up yet, just testing some mods on a server) , I'm actually using 1.2, but I am tempted to switch back to phpBB, I just don't know what to do!!!
