You don't need a credit card to use these domain names. They are free of charge. You can choose them from the list and settle with one which you feel comfortable with. I'd recommend www.freedomain.co.nr because it's Ad-free. Most of the rest are usually ad-supported which you might find them irritating on your site.

Hence you don't need a credit card or make any payments to use the domains. All you need is a email address. You can also use the same email address that you've used to register an account in Trap17.

You can go to GoDaddy and buy a one year domain for just $8,95, or you can go to GoDaddy whith THIS LINK, select the GoDaddy and buy it for just $6.95, can´t get more cheap!!

A lot of them you do need a credit card for, although some of them you do.

They need credit cards because they probably have to verify who you are and whether or not you are trying to create multiple accounts. A lot of these sites claim to do nothing with your credit card information, but a lot of them pass the info on to other sites and/or charge you for their hosting..

So the ??? goes before strangled.net

and your website will be ???.strangled.net

But, there may be a problem with the address, i got a tip.

Example :
my board is hosted at invisionfree (Server 14)

So the URL is s14.invisionfree.com/MYBOARD


Did you see s14.invisionfree.com?

s14.invisionfree.com
is the address you put.

just buy a domain! it isnt more than $10 US come on people! get with the program! free services like those suck anyways! you never know when it is gonna work and not going to! arrgh they annoy me just thinking about it.

Not everyone can afford to own a domain easily. Although it's cheap, of course we all can afford the money, it's not easy to own a domain at a certain age because some parents might not allow. There's also chances where payment for the domain becomes complicated for one who doesn't know much about e-transactions, or online payments. Some also don't own a credit card or an personal internet credit system. That is where free alternatives come useful because anyone can use it, and simply chuck it one side if he/she finds it not a good one to use without losing any money or personal particulars.

Over here we all discuss about the free domains. Definately you will find good comments about some of them because they were tested and used by our fellow members. Hence you will be assured it's gonna work well. Because it's discussed. I think that is the point of this thread.

Well, I'm hosted by a person, so all I have is a subdomain.
Freedomain.co.nr requires you to link back to them, and the account creation isn't instant but it's still a great site.
I own 3 sites.. well.. subdomains .
I think http://joynic.com offers the best 'free domain name'. The only ad it places is a toolbar at the top, however, if you go to your control settings, you can disable it and be 100% ad free.
I use that http://alluringly-surreal.us.tt
Most sites either will give you free web hosting, but you have to pay for the domain or a free domain but you have to buy a hosting package.
http://awardspace.com will allow you to HOST 2 domains for free, but you have to register it somewhere.. and you get like 3 subdomains.. i think that's great for free so you can just go to godaddy.com to register one..
http://freehostia.com allows you to HOST 1 domain and 5 subdomains and you get 250MB space.. great deal, but still you have to register it somewhere else...
The question that you are asking --where can you get a free domain name-- should be Where can you REGISTER a domain for free 'cause there is a difference...

oh yeah, here's a place that gives you a free domain name, however, you dont automatically get a site.. you may become rejected and plus they will place an ad at the top of your page:

My adblock blocked the ads on the top so I've got a black bar instead. Everything else is in a frame. Probably we try break out the frame.

and is not so free! they ask you for 3 dolar per year
