I really don't like norton that much because it takes up more cpu then most security suites. I stick with either ZoneAlarm, Mcafee, or Pc-cillin because they only take up around 5% cpu and norton takes up 12%. Norton might be good but I just don't like it taking up that much cpu. Yes I really like Avast. It's better than AVG or other companies, since it has an effective resident scanner that prevents viruses before they open. Unlike Bit Defender (or whatever), it not only has a manual scan, but also an automatic scan... a really good free Anti-Virus to start you off. (However, it's for HOME use only, so buy the professional version if you're a business or company).
I want to try this one, my brother just uninstalled our anti-virus program because it is doing something weird to my personal computer, My computer shuts down after just few minutes of being used and it has something to do with the anti-virus software. He is planning to return it to the store, I just do not know if he could still return it. thanks for the suggestion!

I have tried it and i have to say that it did work ok. but the issues i had with it really were bad. now it might have been something with my set up. But when ever I ran avast. everything ran extremely slow.
And I do mean everything. even my mouse was in super slow motion. So im not sure if something i had on my pc was causing it to react this way. but even my intenet speeds were dramatically slow. so finally i just decided to remove it since it had been the last item i had installed sure enough its been running good for the last week now.. since i removed it.. so im not sure if I want to try it again or not.. but has anyone else had a problem like this. and i am running a lynxsys router as well.
One of the best antivirus program that i have used is avg. and it free for workstations.
i like mcaffeee fine.

My experience with most of these free anti-virus programs is that they do not protect your computer as well as symantec and etc. Whats this one like compared to say symantec??? Is it loaded with any spyware like spybot is?
is it better than norton antivirus? im using norton right now so it would be kind of pointless to download something that doesn't work as good as it. lol

I have been using Norton Internet Security 2005. It is simply the best. It provides you with an AntiVirus, Internet Security, Firewall, Spam Protection, Adware Protection Blocks Pop-ups and does much more. Norton Antivirus is the best. If you are connected to the internet it automatically downloads the latest virus definitions. and i believe it should be installed as soon as installing a fresh copy of windows because PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE

It was McAfee that intially caused me to try Avast. Had some very poor performance issues, yet McAfee said no viruses. AVG, which I was using as a backup, came back clean too. Friend suggested Avast, I installed it and found 4 viruses neither of the other programs found. Performance came back to normal after a reboot.
A comment on Norton: Anyone who really knows their computers avoids Norton like the plague. A good number of viruses and worms are written to slip right by Norton. Since Symantec took it over some years ago, it has been nowhere near as effective as it was when Peter Norton created it. Regardless of what antivirus you use, free or paid, I recommend running an online scan, such as Panda ActiveScan or TrendMicro Housecall at least once a month. Antivirus programs can be disabled by some viruses, so an online scan is a good way to double check your security.
