The best method is to either unplug your router or look for the reset button and press it, this way your router goes back into it's default mode. However, if you have a main computer that your router connects through then just log into your router's admin panel and then go to the wireless security menu (or whatever it would be called) and your WPA/WEP key should be listed. Then write it down or have your other computer there to type it in and you should be set.
There is no software that could find it out for you - all software would do is try every possible key continually until it found the right one. I think its safe to say you would be sat there for many years waiting for it to pop up with the right key. Your router's admin panel will have an area where you entered the key when you first set the router up. If you type this address into your web browser: http://192.168.0.1/ then you should get a login box pop up. Enter your username (usually "admin") and password (could be anything, but if you haven't changed it, check the manual for the router). Go through the options until you find the section on wireless security, and your key should be shown to you. If it comes up as a series of dots or stars, simply delete them and tap in a new key.
The other option is, as S_M said, resetting the router. This will lose all of your setting in the router though, including you Internet connection details, custom firewall rules, IP settings and all that. Make sure you either know what to replace it with, or find out first! Again, all of this is in the router's admin panel. Now, the reset button is on the back of the router usually, often towards one side. It should be a small circle, just big enough to poke a cocktail stick or pen nib into. Get a pen or cocktail stick (or similar item) and push that button. Hold it down for at least 30 seconds. Turn the router back on and your settings will have been reset.
If you need more detailed information on getting into the admin panel or resetting the router, the best people to contact would be the manufacturers of the router.
There is software that can get it back but only on the machiene that you set up the router with if not it is not possibile. It that does not work you may be forced to do a full reset of your router and change back to factory defaults. It is usually holding the reset button for about 10 seconds but check with the users manual if you still have it.
in terms of priority you should try logging into the router first and changing it.
If not able to do that, last resort is resetting the router by unplugging AND holding the reset switch.
Technically if you were usuing wep you could get a program to decrypt the traffic in a short amount of time, but wpa uses dynamic keys so it wouldn't be worth your time. That would mean that there was wireless traffic even on your network. (if you can't log in, there probably isn't any traffic lol)
There is no software that could find it out for you - all software would do is try every possible key continually until it found the right one. I think its safe to say you would be sat there for many years waiting for it to pop up with the right key.
What's this mumbo-jumbo about taking years to crack the WEP/WPA??? It can be done in 3 minutes for a WEP and 15 with WPA! If you're interested, take a look into: http://www.remote-exploit.org ...years..pff.. And BTW, some router's (I know 2WIRE does for sure) have the WEP key on the bottom of the router, on a sticker. It won't say "WEP" though, But you'll be able to recognize it.
Hello. I am setting up my daughter’s laptop and I have forgotten
And misplaced my wep password. I followed the suggestion of going to http://192.168.1.1 , logged in using admin and
Went into the Administration tab where is shows the password – well, dots for
Each character. I deleted this password and put in a new one, once to put in
And once to reconfirm, then hit “save settings”, the screen goes back to the
Entry of the site, I get a window that
Says Your Settings Are Successful but when I go back to this page, it still
Shows the old password (I can tell by the number of dots). What am I doing
Wrong? I am hesitant to reset the router as I am not a computer person and am
Not sure I can put everything back the way it is now – and I definitely do not
Want to lose internet access on all my computers by messing with the routerL
.. . Also, my Linksys router just went out of warranty so they won’t help me
(for free). Any advice welcomeJ.
BOYCOTT LINKSYS IT SUCKS BIG TIME
Forgot The Wireless Wpa/wep
On the phone with linksys tech support for NINE NINE NINE HOURS yesterday and they still could not get my computer connected. I have the wireless and 160N with matching adapter and a new computer. All of this aggravation cost me 29.99. They said they would have someone research the problem and call me back today. Today I got disconnected 5 times and they said they did not have a second level support person available. And no wonder this country is so pissed off about our jobs going over seas (Phillippines in this case).
I repeatedly typed int he security ket but it kept saying there was a mismatch or incorrect passkey. I reset the modem, the router at least 20 times to no avail. I am left with worthless **** equipment, about 200$ worth. I just Karma comes he;p put Linksys out of business because they ****

Jennifer, you said "It still shows the old password (I can tell by the number of dots)"
Some models will display the same number of dots all the time, regardless of how long the password originally was. This is a security feature (so people can't tell how long the password is). You've got nothing to worry about (unless your connection still doesn't work, in which case it's not the password that's your problem). Just make sure all the other computers are configured with the new password as well.
They sould make a Boost for wireless, to connect to routers i mean boost... i know there a Thing Out

I have a problem with how my current wireless router is set up, in a certain room I do not get a
signal because of all the obstructions in the way of the signal. So instead of moving the wireless
to another point and risk having the same problem but for a different room I have a question. If I
buy another wireless router and set it up in the room of no signal, then run a Ethernet from that
router to my wireless one downstairs it should work. But instead of having two separate wireless
connections I was wondering if there is an specific way to use a wireless router as an....
I recently bought a laptop(HP Pavilion dv9000) with integrated wireless and I wanted to set-up
wireless in my house. So, I bought a wireless router, more specifically I bought a Netgear 108mps
router, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000C0XS0 . Now I got the wireless router before I got
the router and set it up. But made all of the correct connections and ran the setup wizard. I got no
errors or anything. I set the security to WPA2 and set the passphrase and everything correctly also.
Now, when I got my laptop I set it up and everything and it found my wireless netw....
I'd just like people's opinions on a simple fact of connectivity, stability, and speed on
the aforementioned topics. I consider myself quite well versed in networking and computers, and
although I am well aware that my nForce NVIDIA mobo is more suited to network as it provides a much
better network management than any of the wireless plug in cards or usb adapters that I've yet
to see, I always figured 56mbps was more than enough than what I would need for my internet
connection (considering it's capped at 5mbps tops with the best of conditions). Even if ....
Ok, so today during my business tech. class I learned about a new device. It is a shoe that has a
GPS system in it. This dude invented it after his son went missing and they couldn't find it. So
he came up with this idea that if people wear this shoe and they go missing then they could easily
locate them using GPS (Global Positioning System). Has anyone ever heard about this device?....
A friend of mine wanted to play a network game with me. He wanted to know whether there is any way
he could connect to my laptop using his laptop's wifi or bluetooth and be able to play these
games. Is this possible at all? and how can it be done, if it realy is possible. Another thing is
that we dont want to go into buying stuffs like wireless router and stuffs like taht. Just wanna
know whether we could do a Peer2Peer connection and be able to play our game in a network? Can the
bluetooth's Personal Area Network do this?....
I was dreaming for months of making my good old internet connection into an wireless one. So now
that I finished highschool and I'm a fresh student I thought I should make that dream a reality.
So I brought a MSI wireless kit (router+wireless usb). Well when I decided to go for wireless
internet I was afraid of the ruter settings. Since this is my first network I was afraid it would
take ages to setup. However connecting to the internet was very easy... Just some modifications in
the ruters settings so I can protect my connection (WPA2 mixed) and Internet was good to....

OK, so let's say we have an N network, with all N clients, and a Comcast pipe of 8 megabits per
second. N has a theoretical top speed of 540 mbps, let's say I'm getting 250. But, in
reality, I'm not getting 250, I'm getting 8. So in a way, unless you have a pipe larger then
54 mbps (the theoretical max of G), it is useless to upgrade to N. Is that correct or am I missing
something?....
I have an old desktop at home that is used as a second PC (a sort of backup), for example if someone
is using the newer PC, or its running a virus scan or something. Anyway, this desktop was connected
into my network's router by about 30 feet of Cat5 cable, which was then hooked into the PC with
the use of an ethernet-to-USB converter (it has no ethernet port). We decided to move this desktop
elsewhere, which meant the cable would no longer be of use to connect it with. Despite the age of
the PC (around 7 or 8 years old) I decided to make wireless, so that no matter....

Hi All, I'm trying to run a Shoutcast radio on my home PC, trouble is that i'm on a wireless
network at both of my homes, meaning that I can't broadcast through, I'm not allowed to mess

secure, we can't even link printers! So basically, if anyone can find me a way of getting

Ok, here's the situation. I've got a Belkin wireless 802.11n (pre-n) router and it works
fine with it's own card in my Dell laptop. 108 Mbps all day long but I can't seem to get
that kind of speed with my MBP C2D. I just downloaded and installed the $2 firmware update today and
it's showing up in network utilities so I know it's active. I just changed the Belkin to
802.11g only thus giving b the boot. So, according to the software manual, it now will support g and
n. What can I do to get the n speed with this thing? Thanks.....
Credit: original idea inspired by Marsupial at GIDEONTECH (at least that was the first place I saw
in 2003) HTPC (Home Theatre Personal Computer) has been a rising idea back in 2003. Still today,
not many people are investing in HTPC. People think they might have HTPC of their own but I am
talking about the real HTPC--one that you can treat it like your DVD, VCR or Home Threatre surround
sound system. What really makes HTPC? There are several components that truly makes an ordinary PC
to HTPC. From time to come I will be making complete posts of my HTPC. But the very c....
