For A Simple Way. if you use Mozilla Firefox 1.5 as your default browser. type Ctrl+Alt+del or open Task Manager. You will see how much memory being used by firefox.
QUOTE(www.informationweek.com)
On December 8, 2005, we published a story that wondered: Firefox 1.5: Not Ready For Prime Time? In response, some 450 (and climbing) InternetWeek, InformationWeek, TechWeb Pipelines, and Scot's Newsletter readers have sent details about their experiences with Firefox 1.5. A picture is emerging about Firefox 1.5 in the real world -- on a small percentage of Windows, Mac, and Linux computers -- that is less than positive.
Unfortunately the links doesn't seem to load.. Anyway if there's big news about Firefox, there could have already an active thread here talking about it since many of us uses firefox..
Yes! the link is not loading for me either. But yes that is a good major flaw. It is using a considerable amount of memory. When I checked mine it was showing 35 mb of RAM! but I hardly care about that...because I am having a good amount of RAM in my computer...1GB!! But I am concerned about those guys who are using less RAM.
I am sure Mozilla will come out with a new version soon!
can I say this ahahahaha that why IE will always rules cuz we don't waste memory we steal it but interesting that modzilla didn't catch them, hmmm maybe they have a trojan in their program and stealing info.
Wow! Thats a ton of memory! It dons't really matter ot me on my 512MB memory computer but on my older ones... I really hope Mozilla can fix this problem because Firefox 1.5 is GREAT in every other way.
can I say this ahahahaha  that why IE will always rules cuz we don't waste memory we steal it  but interesting that modzilla didn't catch them, hmmm maybe they have a trojan in their program and stealing info.
perhaps this is because firefox requires a bigger memory footprint when it starts so it can multithread? firefox probably assigns a thread to grabbing the page, one to filtering content and one to parse the page.
on my computer, when viewing the reply page here, firefox is using 145mb of virtual memory (ram + swap space) and the cpu usage is at 2% (amd semperon 2400+ - 1.6gHz - single core). out of a total of 512mb of ram and it still leaves me plenty of cpu time, ram and swap space to run all of this:
never over 30% cpu usage for all that. i can still play a graphics/cpu intensive linux game even with no problems. never a single problem with firefox, only thing on my computer that has ever leaked memory is gaim. perhaps windows is your problem?
i use opera. firefox is a memory waster. opera is less of a memory waster but it is recommended to have more than 256MB mem to use both ff and opera. IE or mizilla suite is the best choice for ppl who have 256MB. i just got my memory upgrade done and i found out that opera works much better when the memory is high. firefox just dont seem to be the right browser for me.
People were always bragging about how much better Firefox was than anything else, too. I guess the joke's on them for now, at least. On a lesser note, the future Microsoft version's IE seems to be emulating Firefox alot. I guess Microsoft finally saw this as a threat to their corporate empire.
Memory hog or not, I'll continue to use Firefox. If it becomes too much of a problem, there are other alternatives out there. As long as the computer has enough memory, then FF should continue to run just fine.
personaly i hate firefox, not as a user, but as a website designer... even the old netscape had a minimal frame size, which ment you couldnt make a frame only 4 pixels wide for instance, and firefox doesent use some simple stuff like background freezing etc. and can totaly mess up the way your sites are displayed... plus i dont think it would be a security issue if they firefox would support scrollbar styles, but looks like developers feel that way.....
i was never a microsoft fan, becouse of stuff like "if you turn off your pc playback may stop" style warnings (and other stupid stuff like this) but nowdays i only use IE all the time, its not really so unsafe with an antivirus running and a user that doesent click yes on everything,...
I have had "Mozilla Firefox" for like a year now. It is pretty good. But it saves every webpage you view on your comp. So yeah if you have a slow computer firefox will slow it down more.
Firefox does take an exceptionally high amount of memory and CPU for a browser but atleast its doing a good job at being a browser . My main problem with FF 1.5 is the delay in connecting to a apge. Leme explain this:
If a URL fails to open and we try a second url the FireFo status bar shows 'Stopped' and it takes alot of time to fetch the file. This can be really annoying at imes. Sometimes I even have to restsrt the application for it to work properly.
In an internal memo Microsoft detailed how it plans to tie Win7 and Windows Live. It seems these
guys never learn. They don't don't get tired of monopolizing everything. I just pray the
anti-trust guys will do a good job on this one. Below is part of the blog by Mary Jo Foley about the
memo titled " Microsoft internal memo details Windows 7-Windows Live ties ": " In
January, I mentioned an internal Microsoft memo I had seen which provided details of how Microsoft
plans to more tightly integrate its Windows 7 operating system with Windows Live service....
QUOTE Many people are switching from Internet Explorer to alternative browsers such as Firefox
and Safari. Though that might make them feel more secure, the shift has also opened new doors for
bad guys. Case in point: We have no IE bugs to report this month, but both Firefox and Safari have
been hit hard. So forget the idea that just because you've switched to a new browser,
you're magically safer. You may be for a time, but to stay safe with any software, you need to
keep current with fixes. Firefox Holes In a somewhat dubious recognition of Firefox's....
I am one guy who has always beleaved that when MS made XPsp2 they raised the standards for them
selves. the package was just too good for their own good. When Sp3 came out I didnt hesitate to
download it and what did I get? The first thing that i noticed was I could no longer use remote
desktop. i'm sure this has since been rectified in RC2 but it realy turned me off. I never
realised any gains in the SP. Still on the subject I found Adrian Kingsley-Hughes' blog titled
' XP SP3 performance gains - Nothing to write home about ' interesting He wrote: QU....
OH NO!!! (sarcasm there) QUOTE A flaw in the way the Firefox and Opera browsers
handle an image file could allow an attacker to see what Web sites a person has visited. The
problem concerns how the two browsers handle a ".BMP," or bitmap, image file, according to an
advisory written by Gynvael Coldwind of Vexillium.org, who posted a video illustrating the problem.
A malicious bitmap file can be created that pulls other information from the browsers' memory.
Some of the information that can be captured is random, but at other times could be valuable....
I just got a new laptop, and of course it's loaded with vista. Everything works awesomly!
(my last PC was from 2001, BIG DIFF.) But the damned thing compulsivly and automatically sets
Internet Explorer to my default browser and won't let me change certain things which browsers
will typically handle. 've manually changed it so Firefox handles all the stuff except HTTPS
and what not (CANNOT CHANGE W/O HACK!), but IE just bumps in every time I want to click a link

SOURCE Well it seems that Microsoft found a huge hole in MSN Messenger that was bad enough that
they want people to upgrade to the current Messenger which is Live 8.1 or something like that. As
for details on the problem they just said the following, "..which let hackers embed malicious code
in Web chat invitations to users." and that they found this problem in "6.2, 7.0 and 7.5, as well as
Windows Live Messenger 8.0." Although it was interesting to know that people were actually
complaining about Live Messenger being a resource hog, well the last time I check msn w....
Well it seems firefox flaws are becoming a popular now, the two flaws that have been reported all
follow the same protocol that had posted about before; QUOTE The flaw lies in Firefox's URL
handler component.. Like the first flaw, this one could be exploited by attackers to launch
programs on the victim's PC without authorization, said Tyler Reguly, a security research
engineer at nCircle Network Security Inc. "They're both related to the URL handling process," he
said "It's just different errors within that handling process." So far it would se....
Well it has finally happen and strangely enough I didn't really think about it until now, but it
seems a security team found a very high level bug that requires both Internet Explorer 7 and
Modzilla Fire Fox. This is the jist of the bug; QUOTE The root of the matter is a Firefox
uniform resource identifier (URI) that allows Web sites to force Firefox to launch with the
"firefoxurl://" URI, Secunia reported. The way in which the URI handler is registered by Firefox
causes any parameter to be passed from IE (or another application) to Firefox when the "firefoxurl....
My uncle said Microsoft are going to be sending viruses out via Windows Updates, he said if you do
not have a genuine computer and you validate it you may get a virus. He said someone from PC World
told him. I'm not exactly sure so don't go crazy, but just to tell you it may be true, maybe

Windows has been acting strangely by now, it freezes/clogs badly, I can't use Opera, MF or
continue my tutorials due to this problem. It gets on my nerves as I think it was MY problem because
I deleted MOST of the files in the Temp folder. CODE (Start>Run...>%Temp%)
That folder, most of the files were deleted by me. I consulted my friend by half-screwed MSN, he
said I "effed me up the arse" by doing that. He recommended me backing up and formatting. I never
did that before so I think it will be most-likely half-impossible for me. And as I d....

QUOTE Microsoft has alerted users of a virus that enters PCs through the PowerPoint program. The
virus attaches itself to a contaminated presentation that when accessed installs a keylogging
software on a computer. Users are being warned to take precautions because Microsoft patch that
guards against the security loophole will still be tentatively released on August 8. Reports say
the virus has infected relatively few people with the poisoned presentation. Malicious hackers used
the bug found in PowerPoint 2000, 2002 and 2003. Security experts report that the vir....

On the end of February was discovered that the first trojan (Leap) to target Apple Computer's
Mac OS X, it was published on a new worm that exploits an 8-month-old vulnerability in the operating
system, its know by the name of Inqtana, the worm use Bluetooth to propagate, once it infects a
computer it searches for other Bluetooth-enabled devices and sends itself to those it finds, this
may not be very alarm, but the source code could be easily modified by a future attacker to do
damage like Symantec said, Symantec also says it believes the two pests were developed on....

Microsoft Ships First Vista Security Patches http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1911406,00.asp
QUOTE Microsoft Corp. has shipped the first critical security update for Windows Vista, the
next version of its flagship operating system. Over the weekend, the company released patches for
beta testers running the Windows Vista December CTP (Community Technology Preview) and Windows Vista
Beta 1, and warned that the new operating system was vulnerable to a remote code execution flaw in
the Graphics Rendering Engine. A Microsoft spokesperson told eWEEK that the Vi....

To some this may seem a bit late. Firefox has released a new version that covers several critical
issues, and adds more stability. It is a wonderful alternative to Internet Exploer, and offers (in
my opinion) more security because it blocks most spyware. Article:

spyware and other virtual pests.
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates also unveiled plans to release
antivirus tools for consumers and make a major security upgrade to its Internet Explorer Web
browser. At the same time, he showed off new software for businesses to combat security threats.
