Most of us will be using download managers for downloading the files from the internet. I am currently using GetRight. Please tell about your choice. It will be better if we give preference to freewares in this discussion. |

i don't use download programs due to the fact most of them are also away for hackers to get you with a computer virus regardless if you pay for it or it for free.

I use Mozilla's Firefox download manager. Since version 0.10 everything is cool. Version 1.0PR has a bug, which let's hole in the system, so attacker can delete your files in DOnwload folder of Mozilla's DL manager.

I use BitTorrent and Limewire. Those are the 2 best ones. I use BitTorrent for the big files and LimeWire for the small ones. It seems that BitTorrent is only for big files anyways. I used to go with Kazaa, but then too many viruses and things.

These are programs that access a P2P-Network. solankyno1 meant by "download managers" programs that download files over a http or ftp (mostly) protocol. If you have ever downloaded a file with the Internet Explorer, you may have noticed that closing that download window causes the download to be aborted. Consequence: You have to start downloading again. The main feature of download managers is the ability to resume cancel/paused downloads. You can queue (We know that word from those P2P programs) multiple downloads.

I personally prefer Free Download Manager, which can be downloaded from: http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/, I think this has the clearest interface out of the download managers I've used (I have dial up, a good download manager is essential) which include DAP, freshdownload and some others which I forget (what ever you do never ever use this, its ok but it keeps setting itself to intergrate with firefox, and I have to manually delete the plugin from the firefox directiry to stop it, anyway), I also like the scheduler which allows you to automate downloads and shutdown your computer when the downloads are done (I'm not sure if others can do this so please dont make fun of me too much if everydownload manager ever can also do this). But for small downloads which I won't get disconnected in the middle of the firefox download manager is pretty solid.

I use Limewire for most of the small files I download. I've yet to use BitTorrent, although I heard a lot of good things about it. Apart from that, Firefox's download manager works very well for general downloads.

File Manager Not Working
(2) When I goto upload files using the file manager(legacy mode), the files do not upload correctly.
