| | hy folks, i recently installed some kde-based linuxes and get this error quite frequently not onli at mepis- which i am running now. It appears when starting kde with the bootsplash showing the start of the few kernel components at the very first one called "Setting up interprocess communication". Behind it, in an alert window sais:
"there was an error setting interprocess communication for kde.The message returned by the system was:
Could not read network connection list.
/home/realthor/.DCOPserver_mepis_workbox_0
Please check that the dcopserver program is running!"
What does this mean? It gave me this error after some time when i was able to get into mepis and as i remmember it is not the only linux with kde that gives me this error after actually working on it. It doesn't seem to be vmware faulty because i had it installed on harddisk and the same error happened.Why could this happen with different versions of kde on different linuxes on hdd or virtual partitions??

Mhh there are a few options why this happens the first is that you dont have the proper rights this is easy to pass by. Login as root in your home directory from a CLI and issue chown -R youruser:youruser .ICEauthority You could also try putting "rm ~/.ICEauthority ~/.Xauthority" into a terminal (CLI) so ICEauthority has to be setup again for your user. It also can be that kdelibs have some prolems so try to reinstall those. It could also be that your missing iceauth which normaly installes with X you could try to reinstall X. Since I dont know if your distro is apt, rpm, ebuild based or that you have to compile the packages from source I cant hand you the commands for that.

my distro is mepis so it's debian deb and i can't login either as root or normal user because i get this error at the first module on splash and if i say ok to the error then it brings me back to login. Only if i could bypass kde and try everything from command line....

Normaly you can switch with "alt+Fx" try "alt+F2"for instance Note Fx = F1 - F6 Most Linux versions have the gui on alt+F7 or alt+F8

I tried a fresh hdd install on one free partition and after all steps done when booting in kde yhe same error happend. I suspect it's a bug and it has to do with the users i introduce in one of the steps of the instalation...Otherwise i don't know what to say...why a fresh install could generate this error? But if this is a bug then many others should encounter it and i haven't heard anything so far of such an error on mepis forums.Any ideea?

Asp.net Hosting On Linux Servers?
(1) Hi, I was searching the free ASP.NET hosting, but I didn't found any really good hosts. However,

I have been messing with ubuntu and have been able to do a few cool th (3) Hey Everyone, It is the 4th. Celebration time. While I am sitting here waiting to go to the big
city and watch the Fireworks I am messing with my WinTV and Razr V3. Man the bluetooth under Ubuntu
is awesome. I love the proximity sensor. After you get it setup you can lock and unlock your
computer automatically by walking out of or into the proximity of your computer. Of course you have
to have Ubuntu installed and a bluetooth USB or built in adapter but once you are set it is really
cool. Kind of off topic but I am messing with my WinTV HVR USB too. I will do another p....

Help With Linux - Russix

Page Load Error When Accessing Cpanel
(0) Not sure what the issue is. I cannot even load up any of the cpanel's to allow me to put in a

Cannot Open Display - Error
(2) I basically have some problems in accessing xWindow applications(SAS and nedit in particular) in the
server. i get "Cannot open display" when i try to access nedit and other applications. I did some
findings on this and thought this might be of some help to you. But I was not able to zero in on
the problem yet. The problem I guess, is the remote not able to enable the display to the server.
The display settings has to be set properly in the remote machine. Commands I tried
setenv DISPLAY xhost + DISPLAY=gl5705rk02:10.0 ....

Linux Games
Any linux gamers out there? (0) Hi, are there any linux players out there? I know there are a lot of unique linux games out there,

trying auteria, a nice mmorpg, also available for windows. I like it because it's not as
stupid (personal opinion), as most otherf MMORPG in which everything I do is killing monsters to get

performance out of your components. I hear a lot about Mac OSX being so much better with Intel

Error E74? (xbox 360)
(7) Okay so me and my friend were playing guitar hero and all of a sudden the screen got all block like
and the graphics all turned into green swirly squares. So we thought maybe the A/v cord was loose or
something i turned off the xbox and re-plugged the a/v cords in now every time i turn the xbox on it
flashes 1 red light and says Error E74 in about every language i know of... I have called

please help, i can't get it to work with all music files (4) hey, i use to use Linux DC++ to download music from some hubs and i usually download it to
/home/downloads/ and then i move the files to my collection on another HDD a sata one, on
sda3/music/ but when i move the files using krushader root mode they become posessed by root and
amarok can't play them displaying a locker on the file's icon. I tried to " chmod 774 music
