England have won the match 1-0 against Paraguay but I'm not quite satisfied with that kind of win. As an England fan myself I expect them to be more aggressive and win impressively like Germany did in the first game itself. Win is a win but with that kind of level I'm afraid our England team may not go very far. Let's hope they will improve their game next time. The only goal scored was Gamarra's own goal off David Beckham's free kick. It was Gamarra who deviated the ball with his header that cheated the goalkeeper and it was the only goal of the match. It was within 10minutes of the play as well.

As you say, a win is a win. Really we should have done better and we had plenty of opportunities to score, but the team was just intent on trying to send the ball into orbit! Beckham seemed to be the only one who could keep the ball anywhere near level with the goal. We really need to improve and play more forcefully for our next game if we are going to get anywhere. Still, it's nice to see people flying the flag!

I'm surprised Paraguay held out that long if it weren't for their own goal mistake. But there are lots of upsets every World Cup, such as the Sweden vs Trinidad and Tobago game.

Any followers of the 2006 FIFA World Cup here? I am going for Australia (which is one of the lowest
ranked sides in the World Cup) but their rank doesn't mean much as they scored a tie with
ranked 3rd in the world, Holland and defeated European Champions, Greece recently. Our first match
is against Japan, the other teams in our group are Croatia and Brazil. I don't usually follow
football/soccer since it isn't that popular in Australia, but when it comes to international
soccer/football I am all for it. So what team are you backing? ...

Could I be jinxing Buffalo's luck by making this post? But then again, I never carried a rabbit
foot, four leaf clover or kissed a wishing rock hanging up-side-down before. But I have to tell
you, I feel very good things for Sabres this year! Or maybe I feel good because the whole town is
filled with uplifting spirit--a hope that Sabres might actually win this year. My town's been
filled with disappointments past few years. Buffalo Bills failing to pull it through after so many
attendance at the Super Bowl really did not help anything to place faith on Buffalo...
Giro D'italia 2006

I think this race is wide open with at least 5-6 contenders able to win it. Basso, Cunego, Simoni,
Savodelli, Di Luca and Rujano can win it. With only 38km of TTT and 56 km of ITTs in total, the pure
mountain goats like Cunego, Simoni and Rujano won't be at much disadvantages, and i can't
help but tend to think that Savo and Di Luca will struggle in the steepest mountains. Regarding
thier teams, CSC probably has the strongest team but they will need that because everyone will
expect them to work. Discovery also sends a strong team. They owed it to Paolo after l...

Happy New Year 2006
- Arsenal&Man Utd will be just an also ran (0)
QUOTE New Year is a time for processions across Europe. And if proof were needed that the
Premiership will be anything other than just that in 2005/6 then it came on January 3rd as Arsenal
and Manchester United played out a tepid draw in their last ever league fixture at Highbury.
Tuesday was a lonesome and frustrating night for Thierry Henry. Those New Year parades often include
a changing of the guard and Tuesday saw further proof that while 2005 was the year of Chelsea and
Liverpool, 2006 will continue the phasing out of the old guard of United and Arsenal. Ar...
World Cup Draw
- Dream draw for England? Think again (1)
I suppose we shouldn't be surprised that many people who ought to know better got a bit carried
away on Friday night. To listen to some of the television pundits in England, Frank Lampard,
Wayne Rooney and co. are already through to the semi-finals. No need to worry that they came in
second to Sweden in their group four years ago; or for that matter, that they've gone thirty
seven years without beating Sven's mother country at football. In case you think I'm
picking on the English, they aren't the only ones getting swept away on a tide of hysteri...
England - World Cup 2006 - Qualification Deserved?
- thread containing views on England 2006. (5)
Do you think that England deserved to qualify for the World Cup 2006 soccer/football tournament
knockout next year? Personally, I think it was kind of flukey, the way they only won because the
other team lost yesterday. I don't like England's manager Sven Goran Erikkson. Even the
commentator during the Northern Ireland match started abusing this manager guy, rightly so. I feel
that if England get rid of this manager and get someone who's better at doing his job, then I
reckon the team would be pretty much successful, most of the time. This is only my opinio...

Rugby:england 17 France 18

Hi Any rugby fans here? Wow! What a game! A nail bitter til the end. I thought my beloved french
team was done at the half down 17-6. But no thanks to french kicker Dimitri Yachvili who scored all
18 points and only missed two far away 50 yarders or so. England scored the only 2 trys of the game
but their kickers just couldn't convert much points. Not even an easy drop in the final minute
which would have given England a 2 points win. I don't think the best team won today (France), I
think the less worse did. England just isn't what it used to be when they w...
