What you are about to read is something i came up myself while visiting some websites that are popular for providing illegal software, and software plus their cracks.
Do not ask me what i was doing because i will not tell you!
The thing is that i saw what i consider the end of software developers, including the companies that also build software to make a living out of it, to make money.
Now, people are not searching for software plus their cracks or keygens, now, people are looking for the same software to use on portable disks, pen drives, flash drives, well, on USB's.
Now, in those illegal sites, people can download software, that do not need to be installed on a hard drive, it is software (like photoshop, flash 8 pro, swishmax, corel draw, word, and so on) fixed to run through USB's, from pen drives and portable disks.
Why will this be the end of software developers, of software companie, pretty simple, i already thought of it, you just need to download the portable version of adobe photoshop cs2, then run it from a flash drive, connected to a laptop.
The so called "Portable versions" (for example, "Portable Photoshop", or "Portable Flash 8", or "Portable SwishMax") are compressed files, usually compressed with winrar, which has the decompression functions required, you can see the portable versions of tons of software here in this website:

Just search and download one portable version of a software to see for yourself and you will see what i am talking about, this are packs of the same software people used for years, applying cracks and patches, even key generators, but now you do not need cracks, now you just need to searchj for the portable version of the software you would like to use on your home pc, especially, to use in companies.
You just need those portable versions, then extract it to your flash drive, open the application (usually under a name "portable_xxx"), and the program will open itself, like if you would have installed and applyed the crack already!
Imagine the power! If you can run software from your usb flash drive or portable disk, which you can, you can even run it from your home pc hard drive, you will not have to pay for software for your company anymore!
You just need a laptop (portable computer or notebook), the portable versions of the software you want to use for yourself and/or for your company, and even for the computers of the employers of your company, and if the inspectors come to check the software licences and so on, you just need to close the applications on your laptops and take off the flash drives, that will be so quick that no one will ever notice nothing!
Now, i am sure you understood why software developers will "die", why software companies will close down, it can happen quickly, but i guess it will happen slowly, just a few people know this information, just a few, but now, i am sure that thousands, and hundreds of thousands, even millions, will have a big moral problem, which is:
Do i use this portable versions?
Do i buy software or do i search for the portable version of it?
Are crackers the good guys too?

We are talking full versions right? If thats the case how could a usb stick be able to use it? Or are you referring to using the usb port and using something like a EHD (External Hard Drive) to store all the necessary files to run the program properly?
Download a portable version to your flash drive; Extract the files in to a directory on your flash drive; Open the directory and double click the file/application named: portable_xxx.exe (xxx is the name of the portable software you downloaded) The program will open like you had installed it, completely full.
There are programs and full ebooks/guides, also in that site and others, to create this portable versions of software, without having to install or apply cracks or patches or keygens to it, that is why if an inspector goes to a company, and if he opens it to see which software is installed, he will not see nothing because nothing is installed, is like opening a txt file to write some text and then you close it, without anyone knowing you did that.
Of course, those portable versions are meant to be run from flash drives and portable disks, but you can run it from a directory, you do not even need a flash drive, it is just handy because you can put all the portable versions of the software you usually use to a flash drive, so then you can use the same software on other computers, without installing anything, you can use it in schools, work, et cetera.
Well I'm sure it ain't gonna be the end of software developers. If I had a steady and high income and the prices of some software would be a lot smaller I would certainly pay and buy it. But Windows Vista even in Starter Edition is a months paycheck for a lot of people in my country. I know about the portable versions of software for a long time. I simply can't see any big advantages... Except maybe the fact the chances of getting busted with illegal software are much smaller since you can dispose of the flash drive very fast. Other then that it's the portability, but since I don't have a laptop it's useless...

The main thing now is that people are starting to use portable software instead of buying it, and that will lead to close down a lot of software companies that make software for a living, i am sure about it, it happened before, but it is starting to happen a lot offen now.
Software companies will not close down. If they did then there would be no use for computers if they had no software to run. Think about free software companies, such as Ubuntu, run by Canonical. Ubuntu generates an income through support, despite Ubuntu being free. A lot of proprietary software companies also sell software support, and a lot of consumers buy it. Think about the number of people who call Microsoft for support, and each of them pay.
Plus the software developers would find a way to make it very difficult to run an application from a pen drive, or an impossibility.
How is this the end to software development. First of all, what is the difference between installing pirated software on a harddrive or on a usb key drive. There really isnt a difference. Secondly, most people do not pirate software because they either are against it or dont know how. Finally, most software profits come from corporations and businesses because they obviously do not pirate software. These are where the money is made and this is why there are developers in the first place.

I don't know what you understand by "that long", but there are portable versions of some famous software for over an year now. Besides they were official versions, not cracked or anything. I was looking for the portable version of Firefox and found it here. Check it out... [Click HERE for details]

I am not taliing about free software or open source software, i am talking about a lot of small companies that have their profits decreased by more then 50 %, and when that happens, small and medium software companies will close down, i saw that many times in the past and recently, and with the spread of the portable versions of software (not free software, only shareware), they will loose big profits, and that depends of how much people now about this portable versions of cracked software, like photoshop, flash, swishmax, microsoft office, et cetera, and a lot more, you can see it spread like virus on todays warez websites.
If you knew the real truth, you would not be saying that, i know for sure thatr many antivirus, firewalls and anti-trojan software companies are having huge problems with piracy, and their problems have increased hugely because of the spread of the number of the portable versions of many different software.
If you knew the real truth, you would know that only the big companies and a few medium software companies not only make their profits through sales literaly, but the truth is that most software companies are small and few medium, so tell me, do you have a company or do you have contact with software companies to say that? I know about some, even here in Europe, and where i live too which is Portugal and Spain, and you have no idea how huge the problems are getting with piracy!!!
Of course, i was somewhat dramatic with this topic title, but that is the real situation for a lot of small companies as well as for some medium software companies too.

Another thing, software companies that build free and open source software obviously do not make their money selling software, because obviously the software they create is free or open source, they make their money with other ways, but the portable software i am talking about is cracked versions of very expensive software as well as of other not too expensive software too, and most software companies are small, and the close down of companies i said concerns the small companies and some medium software companies too, the big ones do not need a lot of salles, still, if their sales drop a lot, they will close down too, or at least, they will fire a lot of emplyers, which is also a very big problem today.
I don't think software development will ever end completly. The most that this will do is that large companies will distribute all the software, and we'll lose a lot of quality in our software. Programmers, like myself, will always be finding ways to make it harder for people to do these things. Its like a war without an end, and without a winner.

I had never heard of portable software, those people that crack those programs are very good at what they do. I guess it would be good for a company thats starting and doesnt have the money to buy the full program, but it would be really not cool for that company to buy the programs as soon as the reach economic stability and start making good money. So I dont think that this will be the end of software development, because there will always be a need for specialized software in the businesses, some times the programs that are just not good enough for some.
I think this is where open source software comes into play. Yes, we should credit software makers for their useful softwares but there comes a point where perople, normal consumers like us have to choose between paying and ripping it off the net for ffree. I'm sure most will have gone to the 'dark' side
This is the nature of all humans, you cant change it. What i think software developers should do is not trying to educate consumers to pay for their products. Instead, they shlould be looking for ways to earn from their software without asking consumers to pay! One example is linux. Its free, but when u are asking for on-site support..
It won't end completely, either way programs will have to be made, but likely they're going to be increases in the way programmers prevent people from steeling software, and hopefully more legel consequences that are tracked and acted on better.
I do not think that software developer will die only because of piracy.
First, the software that a software developer made is not necessarily general product like microsoft windows or adobe photoshop. They can make specialized software for a company and there, they will get money.
Second, for general product, It is true that we find the piracy product all over internet. Those who is only depend on their product would die soon. But I find that software developer usually makes advantage by offering customer service. The pirate software would not get this one.
Third, Big company usually does not want to involve in piracy problem. So if your software is good enough that they want to use it, they will pay for it.
Fourth, Open software company has shown you how to survive without getting money from your software. As your software developer you can get money from training, service, seminar, advertising, etc.
What I've been using a lot time since now, is Limewire, I think this P2P software is good for
two things: simplicity and speed.
Its interface is very complex but at the same time very easy to use it. You can search
simultaneously, you can specify what type of file are you looking at, and final....

I have been using LAN surfer and Network scanner in Windows , These software's are used
to scan the LAN over a given range of IP addresses and then display the folders shared by each
computer available on LAN in the specified range... now i have switched to Linux... Can you tell me
any GUI software which would do this task in Linux ubuntu 7.04. I tried nmap but i did not
find it that useful...i think it does only port scanning and stuff but does not display the files

I propose the idea that giving free premium software to those who could never afford a purchase can
only help the owners of that software. Some say that if a sale was never going to happen it
can't be a lost sale. I agree. If people can get started learning to use programs they could
never buy, they may develop skills and abilities that would enable future revenue and loyalty. At

In a subdomain of my site I have an installation of MediaWiki, and until now it's been working
fine. But today I've been having trouble with it. Previously, whenever I logged into MediaWiki
it worked first time and I would stay logged in for about an hour, even without the "Remember Me"
option checked. But I tried logging in now, and after logging me in, the next page I went to showed
me as "not logged in". I cleared the cache as I know this has been a problem before, and then tried
logging in again, but it still said I was not logged in! So I tried one more ....
What do you think the most useful software out. For me its Aim, xfire, or Notepad. Most people

Right, this is the first post of hopefully many in this thread. Basically the idea is to get many
developers together to share ideas and knowledge to create our very own game. First we'll be
asking for is any ideas of what kind of game everybody would like to make, and then we'll set
about assigning tasks depending on everybodies skills. We will need programmers, artists,
web-designers, even admin and marketing. This will be freeware, but the experience will be great.

Hello, I was wondering if anybody knew of a good free lightweight antivirus program, as I just got
an internet connection on my slower computer. The computer itself can hardly be called
internet-ready, it's over 10 years old, but it still works fine, the problem is I'm worried
that an antivirus program would slow it down too much. (I have Norton Antivirus and Firewall on my
other computer, which is much faster, and it slows down the computer a lot, especially booting. I

I am looking for a free software which is able to remove a voice in a song? To just keep the tune,

I found out that AVG Free version isn't eliminating even trojan viruses. I only have this free
version from protecting my system. Is it okay to install one more anti-virus software on top of this
