Hmm on some forums there is a time limit as to how long you can edit your post. IE you can edit your post for up to one hour after you posted. So if you posted your message without reading it over and did not catch your mispellings the first time then you can fix those mistakes for up to one hour. I don't know if this message board has that capablity though.

A way to prevent this issue is to preview your post before submitting. Basically you click the Preview Post button instead of the add reply button. When you preview the post you will discover any grammatical errors as well as any other problems you might see when rereading your post. Its an idea anyway, biggrin.gif

I will tell you why the Edit button was removed.

In a time not so long ago in the same place, there were these mischievous people who found a loophole in the credits system. First they'd find a time when no moderators and admins are around. Then, very sneakily, they'd find a random topic and reply to it. Instead of properly replying (staying on topic) they'd post something completely useless consisting of a bunch of random numbers and letters. A second later, they'd go back and edit their post - this time properly (staying on topic). This method could be used to gain a HUGE amount of credits that would enable them to NOT come to the forum anymore. In other words, they can go on with their lives and forget about trap17. Now, if everyone did this, then trap17 would cease to exist because trap DEPENDS on members. If everyone left trap17, then the ad-clicking would stop, and trap17 would not gain anymore revenue. You can thank those fews (I do not know their names) for ruining this for everyone.

Double posting, althought not a serious issue, can be prevented. If you find that you made a mistake in your post, simply report your own post to an admin or moderator and explain your position. We will be glad to fix everything for you without giving you a warning. smile.gif

The abuse of the edit button is not because an edit button is something easy to abuse but when the credit system was formed all the loopholes weren’t thought out. The solution is simple. Before the person presses the edit button keep track of how many credits the original post was worth. After they make the changes compute the credits again and find the difference. If the post size shrinks enough decrease the number of credits. If the post size increases increase there number of credits. If someone continues to abuse there privileges at the form simply kink them off the form. Please bring back the edit button.

I most certainly agree with having the Edit button reinstated. And s243a's suggestion is certainly workable - simply recalculate the point value for the post upon editing, and adjust the users points accordingly.

Opaque, if you want help with this, get in touch with me. I haven't spoken to you in a while.

Darn, that was exactly what I was going to suggest. I know of another host that has a similar system, and upon post edits or deletions, the new point count is calculated, and quoted text is negated. If this could be done for Trap17, and the edit button put back, I'm sure all our lives would be easier. ^-^ And then staffies wouldn't have to do so much work in editing posts and such for people, and double-posts would be reduced, letting members view the forums more clearly and all that good stuff.

Hopefully trap17 can one day find a way around that so one post gives you credits only for its first posting and not further editings... because I REALLY miss the edit option. I haven't been in many forums without the edit option but I don't think anything more annoying exists in a forum then not being able to edit your posts. It happens to be my biggest pet peeve with forums sad.gif

How about the credits can be decreased if the size of your post decreases. Like:
I post 1,000 irrelevant words, and get 10 credits.
So my credit goes from 7, to 17.
Then I change the 1,000 irrelevant to 100 smart ones.
So then my credit changes from 17 to 8.

That's fair. And can't be abused.

How about it?

Hmm...good idea, but may be hard to implement. The reason is that hosting credits are already recorded into the database once the post has been posted, so it could be difficult to recall it. It may work though, so suggest it to OpaQue. smile.gif

  3. Report Button On Shout Box
    (4)
I think that we could do with a report button..because recently there have been many weirdoes around
here that post things that they shouldn't be posting...so maybe someone can make a script and we
can have a report page just for the shout box...designed just for the shoutbox.... for example i
know it cant be like a topic where there is automaticly a report button there, but maybe we can make
a page on the forums that is exactly like the normal report page and it does the same thing (sends

good free ones out there, and I think it would be amazing. Think of how we would think of other
members? Joining would be optional. It would iclude the top 10 and baners for them in a nice little

I think trap17 should get an edit post feature, it'll limit the number of spamming. When I mean

this would be useful, as just recently i was posting in the warcraft III topic in the gaming/rts

something again to fix it, and I'm sure many other users are having the same problems. I'm
sure having the ability to edit one's posts will greatly reduce spam and overposting. I can see
no real reason why we -shouldn't- have editing permissions, since it's not likely to cause
