| | It's definitely sleep apnea, like some people have been telling you. I don't know what causes it, though... you should go see a doctor and tell him (her?) that you've got something serious. |

It could be sleep apnea, like some of the members have said. But according to what I have learnt about people with sleep apnea, most of them don't get awakened up by loss of breath. They do make grasping noises (like very loud grunting snores) when they grasp for air, but they don't get wakened up like you do. It's still a serious condition though, and could be likely to cause heart attack. If you get awakened by loss of breath, it could be very serious sleep apnea. It could also be that you are under a lot of stress and your muscles are tensed up and that's where you get that 'ghost holding you down' feeling. You should probably see a doctor if it happens often.
My brother has a similar experence, he says theres some kind of ghost holding him down trying to kill him but I dont know. I dont believe its a ghost to be honest maybe some type of mental disorder, that sounds more logical then a ghost doing that too him. Make sure your mum knows your serious and go see a doctor like mich said. better safe then sorry. I'm under the impression that you don't believe in ghosts. I didn't believe in ghosts until about 12 or 13 years ago. I had purchased a mobile home and was never told the history of the home..........I would hear footsteps in the hallway, feel eyes watching me..........I've even heard a baby cry once my daughter was born and it wasn't my daughter crying. Needless to say we moved to a different mobile home and made up an excuse as to why we didn't want to continue living were we were. The neighbors that we had told us that a baby had died there on Thanksgiving Day.......just a few months before I moved into that mobile home. It's was like the longer we lived there the more frequently we would hear odd things and the creepier it became to live there. It was a beautiful mobile home........but the park had water problems which made the water undrinkable and add in the creepy events.......it got to be more than I was willing to deal with so we traded our mobile home for a different one in a completely different location.
Sleep apnea (sp?) was my first thoughts as well when I read the first post here. It's dangerous and people can die from it and you need to see a doctor ASAP. They may suggest going to a sleep clinic, but to me it would be worth it. A sleep clinic could tell you for sure what is going on and help you get the medical intervention that you need. It's a scary thing to wake up being unable to breathe.
Panic attacks can produse asthma-like symptoms, usually with it being hard to breathe. It just doesn't sound like a panic attack to me.........I'm thinking more on the line of a sleep disorder that is serious enough to seek immediate care for.
It's NOT SLEEP APNEA...
The "long beep in your head" is from sitting in front of the computer screen too long. It will also happen if you sit near the tv or a stereo too long or if other large electrical appliances are constantly running around you like freezers, refrigerators, etc. Some people are just super sensitive to this. It even happens to me outside, I can hear the street lights buzzing, and the electricity running through all the power lines outdoors. Which really sucks in the summer when my bedroom window is open. It gets extremely annoying after a while, but I've learned to live with it because nothing can be done about it. Whats happening to your body is a MILD form of paralisys, it is temporary and harmless, but very scary:) It happens to everyone from time to time, usually after a bout of insomnia or when under severe stress of some kind. There's nothing to be afraid of, it's just your body's way of making you RELAX wether you want to or not. Your heart rate, chest preassure and breathing problems are caused by panicking about the paralysis, so next time it happens, remain calm and tell yourself this is only temporary and it will soon pass. The realization of this does not stop the paralysis, but it makes it easier to tolerate. Re: sonesay, that's also what's happening to your brother. Aside from perhaps startling a person, Spirits and Ghosts can NOT physically harm people. But the panic caused by the misguided belief that they can or that he is under attack will cause chest pains and mess with the blood pressure and heart rate, and cause other problems depending on how afraid a person is. But it's important to know that all of those physical problems are self-created and not the work of any supernatural being. Tell your brother to realize that if he can see spirits they mean him no harm, they probably just like his company or need his help.
Thats actually something really strange ...It is might because you are fed of something in life and just you want to make a escape from it....so it may be because of this
I would like to give a advice that seek some psychatrist advice or something like that...this would really help.
The next physical you have you should discuss it with you're doctor. But im 100% sure that this is a sleep disorder. What happens is you wake up when you are in the dreaming state, although you might feel you're heart rate and breathing rate is low, but in reality it is the normal rate of which you sleep at (everyone sleeps with an abnormal heart rate, its because it lowers the important thing is the fact that it doesn't start beating. Think about it, its logical...you're heart beats 24/7 a day until the day you die. Like all muscles the heart needs to rest. During sleep this is the time it can do that, so the heart rate slows down dramatically. Your heart rate and breathe rate differ when you are awake and asleep.
QUOTE This is the normal sleep pattern: REM sleep is more active. Breathing and heart rate become irregular, your eyes move rapidly back and forth under your eyelids, and control of your body temperature is impaired so that you do not sweat when you are hot or shiver when you are cold. Below the neck, however, you are inactive because the nerve impulses that travel down the spinal cord to body muscles are blocked. Your body is essentially paralyzed. It is during this sleep stage that you dream. Quoted from: <http://www.nasponline.org/resources/health_wellness/sleepdisorders_ho.aspx> Whats essentially happening is that you're waking up when the rest of your body is still essentially paralyzed. Talk to your doctor and rely this information to her and she will believe you for sure. Edit: added quote citation.
you believe in that ghost thing? don't let people scare you.. alot of ppl say that a ghost is holding them down , it is kinda silly. ive nvr experienced that when i slp but sumtimes wen i wake up i cnt feel my legs until like mins later... but thats not sumthing bad, so yer dnt sit around n let ppl tell u wat they think it is n go see a professional
As well as everyone else - tell your mum that you aint joking, then see the doctor. You could be athsmatic, but theres a chance. You might be layed in a bad position, try adding a few pillows underneath your head to see if that helps. Usually i cant breathe very well when i lay flat on my back. Adjustable beds actually solve snoring problems because the throat, when you are perfectly horizontal, clamps together so the person snores.
It is probably, though only a doctor could tell you for certain, REM paralysis. Sometimes while dreaming I also would wake up, usually because the dream was about spiders - a particular phobia of mine. Now I wasn't listening to my heart or my breathing, I was holding perfectly still because in those dream-ridden moments I was certain that there was something vile in the darkness that would pounce if I made a single movement or sound. If you are particularly worried about dying in your sleep that might be what is causing your problems.
Now a few words about Sleep Apnea. The danger of Sleep Apnea is that when the throat closes enough to deny sufficient oxygen to the lungs the heart works extra hard to extract the oxygen it can. A long enough time without air and the brain will wake the body up long enough to get a breath. Mild Sleep Apnea means your body isn't really getting rest. Full blown Sleep Apnea is like your heart ran a marathon while you slipped in and out of sleep.
