| | YES! I would always of wanted one of those because most of our dreams have things we really want to go back to and see again, but later on the dream is lost in your mind. If they ever get one of these, I bet there will be lots of problems and risk that you would have to go through, and I wouldn't want to go through them. Cost if an important problems that would not be possible for probably me or others. I remember thinking about a way to record our dreams, it's nice to hear someone has the idea too! |

No. I'm not trying to take personal shots at you. I always take the role of a realist in this forum in order to attempt to keep the ideas levelheaded. This isn't the fiction forum, I believe it's meant for possible ideas or concepts, and I'm not taking hard shots at your idea alone, I'm just trying to bring the idea more down-to-earth.

Touchy. Hey, I'm all for science fiction, but as I said, this is an ideas thread, not a science fiction thread, and I enjoy attempting to keep things a bit more level-headed around here (like with an old topic in which a guy suggested a real HUD that can tell you how much life you have left and what the consequences of your actions are).

QUOTE like with an old topic in which a guy suggested a real HUD that can tell you how much life you have left and what the consequences of your actions are That's not very clear though either. What if you were to walk out in front of a car. Then that thing was useless because it would never have time to tell you. Right now you can go to the doctors and give them a bunch of answers such as do you smoke, drink, ect and they can estimate pretty good. The HUD would be pretty useless because you can only get hurt so much. Life is not like a game where you can get shot 300 times and not die.

It's useless because health and fatigue cannot be summarized as a percentage and if one cannot figure out the consequences of their actions without an HUD, they should not be allowed to mingle with society.

This is a great idea, however the problem is the fact sleep is made up of 4 different kinds of sleep. I II III and IV. I is the lightest lasts roughly 10 min. II is a little heaver type of sleep about 20 min. III is the deepest sleep an hour or so.And IV is the stage in which you actually dream. IV is a rather short period of sleep too. Having a computer record hours of sleeping whould be timly and pointless, however if there was a way to monitor brain wave and/or eyemovement that could triggere a recording sequence, this would be costly though. The next problem is interpreting the brain waves on the computer. THis would take years and years of research, anonther simple way to counteract this would be to instead of recording and playing nback on pc you would just record brain waves to pc then have it stream from pc back to a frequency wave transmitor implanted into the brain. The FWQ would playback the alpha and delta waves back innto your head. This would put you in an altered state of concious that would allow your brain to intrepret the waves as it sees fit. Possibly recreating the dream.

hmmm... i dont think this is even possible. i mean, what we see in our dreams cant drectly be translated into some sort of visual projection. when i dream things change all the time and when i awake i realise that they dont have specific details or features. if a friend was in my dream i wont remember what they looked like or wat they were wearing as they dont actually exist in the dream, but what i do realise is teh fact that they were present at the time and i recognise was actions they took or what they said. its hard to determine exactly how to convert these particular thigns to a streamline movie. if this kinda of technology did exist, i dont think it wold be that accurate. ;o

anjin, that is a good idea. I like the idea about sending it back to your brain. just save the brain waves and then send them back to your brain. QUOTE if this kinda of technology did exist, i dont think it wold be that accurate. Well the computer would be able to make it just as you saw it in your sleep. So lets say you only saw a person and eveything else is black, but her face then that is what you would see on the computer. I see the problem though.
