Personally, I've read the books first before watching the movies. I loved the books, the movies sucked. It was as entertaining as watching a person playing with a plunger. I must admit, the story (book) did get a bit boring. I enjoyed it a lot until book three, but when four came along, I didn't enjoy it as much... Something changed... When the fifth came along... Oh my... Is this the same magical book I picked up years ago? It was bland... boring... and I couldn't bear seeing this happen to a promising book. The sixth book... don't ask. Sometimes, when people write stories for too long, they end up straying from the original plot and start morphing into an overly hyped monster. This is the reason why I love reading short series.
I enjoyed The Lord of the Rings a lot, and also the Hobbit (my favorite). As some people mentioned earlier, Roald Dahl books... Ahh those books where the foundations of my childhood. They made me feel very happy. I loved those books so much I visited the library everyday to re-read them! Even though those were meant for children, they could be very entertaining and enlightening to adults even. The BFG, Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, everything made me enjoy my youth...
Then again, I was straying from the topic... I'm not a Harry Potter hater at all. I gave the books a try (and even the so-so movies they showed). I'm not entirely ignorant about books and I'm very concerened about plot development. For someone like me, Harry Potter had a good start, it started a good fire, but it started to burn out quickly for me... Like burning paper.
Well, I also find Harry Potter very childish. Itīs not because itīs fantasy... itīs because J.K. Rowling wrote the books for children... yes they are good stuff, but it doesnīt mean that theyīre the best kind of book that an adult may read. I think they proved that literature can still be an option in the era of videogames and thatīs good but I donīt enjoy reading them... not to talk about the films. So not dumb, only for younger people than me.
I like it. However, i think that the story structure should deviate a little. You know, i could probably list the story structure right here:
Harry potter and dursleys fight Harry somehow gets away from them and into diagon alley Meets up with Ron and Hemione Gets into hogwarts Trouble starts to happen Harry saves the day and becomes the hero (AGAIN!!!) Gryffindor wins house cup (Again...) Goes back to dursleys
Or something like that. I haven't read the books for a long time, so the names may be full of spelling errors.
I think anything dealing with magic and whimsical creatures is stupid unless it is a satirical parody of something else. Thus, I think harry potter is stupid.
To be perfectly honest, I believe the target age range for Harry Potter is actually five to seven. The Harry Potter novels have a very weak exaggerated nonsensical story; even for fiction it seems absolutely ludicrous.
It is impossible to take it seriously when Harry Potter goes to a school where the most powerful wizards are teachers and every time there is evil afoot, the powerful wizards cannot do squat and the students who know almost nothing about magic somehow always save the day.
Children are better off reading the Chronicles of Narnia than Harry Potter.
I like Harry Potter. The movies weren't as good as the books but they were good. The only reason the movies weren't as good was because they didn't have everything that the books had. Even some small scenes. But other than that they are good. Interesting stuff. And I really don't think they are for little kids. Younger kids wouldn't understand them and wouldn't know what half the words meant. It's more for all ages. Anyone who can understand and read it. I really don't think she'd put a little swearing into a kids book. It's not a lot but there is some in it and parents wouldn't like their 9 year old son saying "damn" or "*arse*" or something like that. Even if it is minimal. It's not a kids book. And I like it. And the hero doesn't always win without something bad happening. In all books there is some one who dies. Except the second book. I don't think anyone died there. But some one dies in everyone of them. And in the 5th and 6th they weren't just anyone. They were people close to Harry. So don't say the hero always wins. Read the 7th book and than we'll see what happens. Maybe Harry dies in the 7th. Maybe not. Maybe Ron or Hermione dies.
Holy ****, thanks for posting this!! I'm really tired of my friends asking me "omg hou cn u nt liek harry potta??!!". I think the books are the most overrated thing after the Lord of the Rings movie. No, seriously. I read the first book and it was nice and everything, but not nice to the level that people are trying to take it. I mean, it's just to read it once and forget about it, or at least that's my opinion. About the movies... well, they were okay as well. I liked the first one, same thing that with the books... you can watch it once, but you don't go talking about them forever and making a fanlisting and everything. I know it's not a kids book, this isn't why I think it's so overrated. I just disagree with all the poeple who say that it is a big plus to the literature.
i personaly hate it. i cant stand the writing stily. Also how to good people always win and never have problems. i also dont like fantacy that much. but i guess it all depends on what type of writing you like. i personaly am a fan of the more realistic books and the action packed ones. (tom clancy) But i guess if you like fantacy that would be the perfect book for you.
I was wondering, can this be a discussion for the seventh and final book of the Harry Potter
series? Because I really want to talk about it. Great book! Do you think that the ending is a
bit.. predictable? I mean, it was kind of obvious (to me) that Hermione and Ron would
eventually.. Marry each other? As with Harry and Ginny. But I like Harry's kid the best, the one
that looks like him. Albus Severus, right? Or was it Albus Snape? Hmm.. I remember it was Albus
_______.. ....
Well, I figured I mine as well make the post for the book. I know Albus is probably reading it
considering his screen name is named after the former character. Anyway, I've read a few
articles about it and have heard that people are pretty satisfied with the ending. The storyline
has changed so much as Harry has grown older. I've also read though that there is lots of death
occurring throughout the book, but of course I guess that is part of the name. I purchased my copy
last night and have started reading chapter one. Please post what you think of it but ....
As all Harry Potter fans may now: The last book is coming out soon. It is going to be released July
21th. I found some unresolved plot info from the previous books on Wikipedia *****SPOILER*****
: QUOTE * Harry will return to the home of his non-magical (Muggle) relatives, the Dursleys
(whose cooperation has been requested by Albus Dumbledore), during the school holiday. The magical
protection Dumbledore arranged, which requires Harry to have a home with them, is set to expire when
Harry comes of age (see below).HBP Ch.4 * Harry plans to visit the remains ....
Not in the world, but in the series. Here is my synopsis: Oh yeah, it's kinda spoiler
intensive, so if you have not yet read the books, you might not want to continue reading. Hmm,
wonder if this board has spoiler tags? Book 1. Killed a teacher at the the school he attended.
Arguments against: He was preventing the capture of the stone, and He was a dark wizard anyway.
Arguments for: If Harry did not persue the stone in the first place, it would not have needed
prevent the capture! Even if the enemy you are killing is evil, they should be held alive for ques....
Don't be so stupid as to say 'omg I well hate harry potter - I watched the movies and they
were boring so I just didn't bother with it ever again! its just for kidz lolz' That's
simply ridiculous The books are almost completely separate things from the movies MOST people who
have read the books dislike the movies anyway I agree completely that the Harry Potter films are
made for a young audience And books 1 and 2 are also made for a young audience But beyond that the
books contain some quite adult themes, and were definately written with a more '....
This teory shows that harry potter has the best chances of being a gryffindor! as on my post about 5
HP teories (click here) i quote the fifth: QUOTE 5 Harry potter is gryffindor last
descendent! noticed that the house bellonging to his parents is called Godric's hollow ?
Godric Gryffindor ... any resemblense? and... would it not take a true gryffindor to take the sword
out of the hat? there must have been loads of people truly loyal to gryffindor but not one of his
own blood!! i think james potter is the blood of gryffindor!!! that whould bring a shout to ....
What do you reckon the 6 horcruxes will be then... Obviously we know the diary was one And the
locket from the Black house was probably the one dumbledore and Harry went to find The ring that
dumbledore destroyed (we don't know much about that really) Something of ravenclaws, hufflepuffs
and gryffindors? Dumbledore thinks that voldemort used nagini the snake to kill the old man in the
riddle house and then turned her into a horcrux, because voldemort was one horcrux short when he
went to kill Harry. Dumbledore also thinks that voldemort planned to make a horcrux w....
Harry Potter Spoilers Read spoiler at your own risk Alright now here is MY
theory on the whole "Snape is innocent, no shut up, he's guilty" thing: I was reading a
transcript of an interview that J.K. Rowling gave to some newspaper or magazine, I'm not sure
which, but it was about the guy asking her if she liked Harry Potter : Prisoner of Azkaban, the
movie. According to Rowling, she got "goosebumps" after watching it because it revealed a major
spoiler for later in the series (i.e., book seven). Today, I was watching Prisoner of Az....
Yesterday, I was re-reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince , and I have deduced that
Snape's allegiences indeed lie with the Order of the Phoenix. Here is why: At the top of the
Astronomy Tower near the end of the book, Dumbledore admits to Malfoy that he knew about the mission
Voldemort entrusted to Malfoy. However, he knew that Malfoy is not a murderer and therefore would
not kill dumbledore, so he asked snape to kill dumbledore instead so that Malfoy would not be killed
by Voldemort. Coincidentally, Snape had made an unbreakable vow to Narcissa Malfoy ....
WARNING: SOME SPOILER DETAILS FROM BOOK SIX! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK! Haha, suckers. More Harry
Potter and you can't do nothin' bout it, ye hear?! Indeed. So here is my theory for Book 7,
which I heard from an unconfirmed source but it is still kinda fun: There is another prophecy
concerning Harry that he does not know about, which again was forseen by Professor Trelawney and
told to Dumbledore around the time the first prophecy was made. But surprisingly, it was about
Harry's romantic destiny, not Voldemort. Dumbledore decided not to tell Harry about thi....
So, what do people actually think's going to happen in the last book, now the sixth one is out
of the way. Personally I think that Hogwarts will stage the final battle between Voldemort and the
others and they'll be all the magical creatures fighting each other etc. What do other people
think? Or do people just read the books and take in what happens then?....
The new Harry Potter (the sixth one) is already coming out (July, isn't it). I have just had a
chance to catch up with the Harry Potter books. They are all amazing. Once I started, I just
couldn't stop. Not only do I feel like I have to continue to read til the end of the book, but
also once I have finished one I sooo much want to read the next book. Was just wondering now which
one you like best (out of the five)? I think I like the third one most (the prisoner of Azkaban).
It's just a perfect jig-saw...all pieces were put together soo well, and filled wit....
I like Harry Potter... a lot!!! I spend a lot of time looking at stuffs about Harry Potter. I would
like to here some personal comments about Harry Potter. I don't really care if you hate it, but, I'm
just curious.
Ooooo..... also, a great Harry Potter site (visit the forums!)

Ok, I just found out that 6ht book in the Harry Potter series has been given an official title, and
