| | I never planned on reading the Harry Potter books when they came out because they were too hyped up. I saw the first movie on dvd and it was good. Still didn't want to read the books... then I took my little sister to see the second movie at the theater and this lady behind me was explaining what was about to happen to her friend! So I planned on reading the books before the third movie came out just so that wouldn't happen to me again. |

There was a time when I liked Harry Potter, but after I saw Lord Of The Rings Harry Potter seemed kind of stupid. Really stupid. Now I think Harry Potter has become anoying.

Meh. When I picked up the first Harry Potter book several years ago, I read about 3 or 4 pages before my eyelids just fell like anvils. Haven't cracked it open since. I'm not too thrilled about the whole series. Goosebumps were much better, IMO.

I dislike Harry Potter very much. I checked out the first book, and i never finished it, i returned it before i even got half way into it. I just found it incredibly boring, and just did not entertain me at all. For Christmas a couple of years ago i got the whole series (then it was only 4 books). I tried to read it again, because i felt bad getting a gift and not ever reading it. But i just couldnt read it it. I respect the author, and i am glad that some kids are reading due to her books, but harry potter is just not for me. I am not very much into witches and wizards, so maybe thats why i don't enjoy the books. I have seen two of the harry potter movies in theatres, but i am not a harcore fan of the movies either.

What? No, I don't think it is dumb! I mean, I don't loooove the Harry Potter books like certain people, but they are okay. Honestly I think it is really annoying when people claim that they hate something (often just because everyone else seem to love it) .. Half of you people didn't even readthe books (the movies doesn't count, cause they don't do the books justice). It is your oppinion whether you like it or not, but you should respect it anyways. At least respect the author who wrote it by not calling her books stupid: She didn't write them because she wanted them to be the huge bestseller... As far as the age goes, then they are absolutely not only for kids. Just like a lot of books they have a lot of good things to say if you analyze them a little, and related to many issues in both teen and adult life. Besides, don't we read because we want to slip into another world and hear fantastic stories? Yeah, well, that's what it is. No one is to old for that. So, my advice: If you think something is stupid then just don't bother talking about it.. And if you do, then at least read the books before you diss them (I do not know a single person who would say that after reading them all) Peace, Amanda

I like the Harry Potter series. It's full of lots of twists and turns, and loads and loads of foreshadowing. There's a ton of symbolism, which makes it fun to analyze, and the plot is just fun to read (even as a 14 year old). I am aware of the fact that the story is probably intended for childeren a lot younger than me, and that's fine. For younger childeren, they get to enjoy thinking about how cool it would be to be a wizard/witch. For us older(ish) people, we get to look into the literary techniques used by the author and have fun analyzing them, or predicting what will happen next by looking back and finding foreshadowing clues. In the last book that was released (#6), there reveals the fact that a lot of answers will be given in the next book (#7), which in turn makes all of us older people who are learning, or have already learned, about literary analyses, start trying to figure out what's up before the next book comes out. And the older kids are also able to enjoy thinking about being a wizard or witch... though I would much prefer a jedi

QUOTE(prodigy @ Aug 21 2004, 01:00 PM) I think harry potters ok wen ur about 8-10 years old but past that come on, grow up...
I think so, but it isn't dumb. It's very difficult to write book for child and HP is good from this point of view. However, IMHO, level of the book isn't as high as Astrid Lundgren for example.

Harry Potter: The Deathly Hallows
WARNING: MAY INCLUDE SPOILERS! ONLY READ IF YOU HAVE READ THE WHOL (18) I was wondering, can this be a discussion for the seventh and final book of the Harry Potter
series? Because I really want to talk about it. Great book! Do you think that the ending is a
bit.. predictable? I mean, it was kind of obvious (to me) that Hermione and Ron would
eventually.. Marry each other? As with Harry and Ginny. But I like Harry's kid the best, the one
that looks like him. Albus Severus, right? Or was it Albus Snape? Hmm.. I remember it was Albus

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows
talking about the book itself and thoughts (10) Well, I figured I mine as well make the post for the book. I know Albus is probably reading it
considering his screen name is named after the former character. Anyway, I've read a few
articles about it and have heard that people are pretty satisfied with the ending. The storyline
has changed so much as Harry has grown older. I've also read though that there is lots of death
occurring throughout the book, but of course I guess that is part of the name. I purchased my copy
last night and have started reading chapter one. Please post what you think of it but ....

Harry Potter Is The Source Of All Evil.
(26) Not in the world, but in the series. Here is my synopsis: Oh yeah, it's kinda spoiler
intensive, so if you have not yet read the books, you might not want to continue reading. Hmm,
wonder if this board has spoiler tags? Book 1. Killed a teacher at the the school he attended.
Arguments against: He was preventing the capture of the stone, and He was a dark wizard anyway.
Arguments for: If Harry did not persue the stone in the first place, it would not have needed

(16) Don't be so stupid as to say 'omg I well hate harry potter - I watched the movies and they
were boring so I just didn't bother with it ever again! its just for kidz lolz' That's
simply ridiculous The books are almost completely separate things from the movies MOST people who
have read the books dislike the movies anyway I agree completely that the Harry Potter films are
made for a young audience And books 1 and 2 are also made for a young audience But beyond that the
books contain some quite adult themes, and were definately written with a more '....

dumbledore destroyed (we don't know much about that really) Something of ravenclaws, hufflepuffs

Ultimate Harry Potter Spoiler
Read spoiler at your own risk (10) Harry Potter Spoilers Read spoiler at your own risk Alright now here is MY
theory on the whole "Snape is innocent, no shut up, he's guilty" thing: I was reading a
transcript of an interview that J.K. Rowling gave to some newspaper or magazine, I'm not sure
which, but it was about the guy asking her if she liked Harry Potter : Prisoner of Azkaban, the
movie. According to Rowling, she got "goosebumps" after watching it because it revealed a major
spoiler for later in the series (i.e., book seven). Today, I was watching Prisoner of Az....
Harry Potter 6 Spoilers!
Warning: Harry Potter 6 Spoilers (22) Yesterday, I was re-reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince , and I have deduced that
Snape's allegiences indeed lie with the Order of the Phoenix. Here is why: At the top of the
Astronomy Tower near the end of the book, Dumbledore admits to Malfoy that he knew about the mission
Voldemort entrusted to Malfoy. However, he knew that Malfoy is not a murderer and therefore would
not kill dumbledore, so he asked snape to kill dumbledore instead so that Malfoy would not be killed
by Voldemort. Coincidentally, Snape had made an unbreakable vow to Narcissa Malfoy ....

which I heard from an unconfirmed source but it is still kinda fun: There is another prophecy

told to Dumbledore around the time the first prophecy was made. But surprisingly, it was about
Harry's romantic destiny, not Voldemort. Dumbledore decided not to tell Harry about thi....

Sorry to bombard everyone with HP btw. (50) So, what do people actually think's going to happen in the last book, now the sixth one is out

think? Or do people just read the books and take in what happens then?....

chance to catch up with the Harry Potter books. They are all amazing. Once I started, I just
couldn't stop. Not only do I feel like I have to continue to read til the end of the book, but
also once I have finished one I sooo much want to read the next book. Was just wondering now which
one you like best (out of the five)? I think I like the third one most (the prisoner of Azkaban).
