| | Hmm, very interesting topic indeed.
I myself am also a pessimistic, and so I agree with you. Also as an American, I'm too young to vote, so don't blame me for Bush. The only thing I remotely like about this place is that I can go out and shout, "I HATE BUSH!" Yeah, I better go off to Venezuela and shourt, "I HATE CHAVEZ!" and see what happens.
In any case, Mermaid 711, you really give Americans a bad name with your blatant ethnocentric posts like that. -.- This is why people hate us.
I HOPE western civilization will decline (and eventually it will), maybe it'll give rise to three superstates name Oceania, Eastasia, and Eurasia... |

QUOTE Yes, but I guess they don't have E8 ethonal over there. . . And there is increasing proof that there isn't such thing as Global warming, that the Earth has heating and cooling cycles. . . I knew Al Gore was full of Bull Shhhh.... Crap =]There is no scientific proof that those disasters are caused by the global warming, which is increasingly disagreed with by the people who actually have an education.
And if you are so worried about the fuel, the vast majority of that stuff comes from russia and the middle east. This really made me laugh. Increasing proof that there's no such thing as global warming? Recent UN Convention on Climate Change, look it up. Scientists are teaming up to tackle global warming, and it appalls me that there are still ignorant, apparently 'educated' people who tries to deny the truth. The heating and cooling cycles? Let me enlighten you that they exist, BUT this heating cycle happens WAY faster than the normal pattern, which means there's something wrong and obviously human intervention has something to do with it. The temperature couldn't possibly rise that much in that short period of time. QUOTE and if there were DNA strands in our genetic chain for human values such as greed and envy (which i'd say are man's main achilles' heel), then we should splice them out of our DNAs to help future generations persist in this world. could be the only way human life can project itself unscathed throughout time. This would make future generations far more superior that they're not human anymore. They would be a bunch of kind, smiling harmless beings. Eventually human could be wiped out. Prove me wrong that human evolution doesn't involve greed and envy. In fact, these two elements help shape human and determine the way we are now. Even though that two attribute is harmful, we couldn't live without it for no one is perfect. QUOTE I HOPE western civilization will decline (and eventually it will), maybe it'll give rise to three superstates name Oceania, Eastasia, and Eurasia...
Yeah this is possible, and then humanity will once again be torn by war among the three big alliances. QUOTE And it's not only the greed of the oil companies that will keep the oil flowing, but the very fabric of the world economy. You can power a car with electricity. You can even power a bus with it, but you can't power heavy industrial machinery with it. Whoever controls the oil controls the world. If you would control oil and such control the world would you tell the world... hey use other fuels- don't use oil! Of course not! You would like to keep your position. That is what the USA does... Iraq wasn't about the war on terror, but about the black gold, the so important oil! I may even say that at this point the world is very much doomed. We can't simply change so much of our lives in so little time!
The world hasn't seen fewer wars because the world never saw such a total domination from one single country. At this point the world has one ruler... the United States of America. Once it will show signs of weakness (and I already think it does) other countries will come forward to claim the world. One certain candidate now is China. It has the men-power and the economy to one day dominate the world (remember that 80% of everything is made in China) Not to mention the fact fewer wars don't necessarily mean fewer deaths and less destruction. In WW2 there were 60 million death in one war, far more then in tens of wars. so there are fewer but with much more destructive capabilities. Remember it only takes one war to wipe out the human kind... millions of years of evolution destroyed in one single moment. So you have to see the danger is far greater now! I quite agree with this. Everything depends on oil now, so unless another energy alternative is found, the world is still dominated by this black gold. Of course, I don't side with anybody. I believe human can overcome any problems - they always do. The human spirit is indomitable - we're like cockroaches, annoying and hard to exterminate. Eventually a new source of energy will be found when oil runs out. Global warming? It might be a scientific lingo to scare people, but my advice is, do heed it. At least care for your future generations. Western civilisations have indeed reached their pinnacle and a majority of people's mentality is the 'entertain me' attitude. New plasma and LCD TVs literally pop up every 4 weeks or so. Look out for the Eastern rise: China, India and South East Asia. They're underdeveloped now, which means plenty of room to grow. Just my two cents.

Just my two cents. I share your point of view. Like yourself I have lost faith in human kind... Maybe mankind has just reached it's potential and it can't simply go further. What happens to us as a species is simply justice. Just like in evolution when you are not capable, when you don't desire (deserve) to live you don't. Survival of the fittest. If an animal were to kill for pleasure it would soon find itself out of food to eat and it would starve to death. In some way that is happening (going to happen) to mankind. For those thinking that global warming is not real... You don't have to be a scientist to see that global warming is happening; you don't need statistics to tell you the temperature has risen a few degrees in the last few decades. You simply don't have to listen to anybody. You simply can feel it... extreme weather, really hot summers, mild winters. Those who say different are paid or influenced by those who made global warming... the fuel industry. Do you think they like losing $ as long as there is a single drop of oil in the ground. The only thing they care about is not the future of mankind or even the future of their children but how many billions they have in their bank account. We all know what happened 2-3 weeks ago with the economic situation of the world. It is an omen for what it is to come. The US is (admit it or not) in recession. China is on full throttle but who knows for how long. I think that in our life time (50-60 years) we are going to see enormous changes - for better or for worse... Something is bound to happen!

Lol we are doomed and people don't really do anything about it =/... QUOTE "I was having an argument with a friend of mine a few days ago on the fact that all the Western civilizations are on a slow, but steady decline. Not necessary economical decline, but a far more important and with far greater consequences cultural and moral decay which in time will inevitable lead to the downfall of the Western hegemony. I strongly believe in this theory. I consider its outcome not a question of if, but a question of when. You may call me a pessimist, you may think I see only the part of the glass that is empty, but we all see the signs. I believe the Western civilizations are at or have passed the peak of their development. Remember that after the shining Roman Empire came the Dark Ages... History is known to repeat itself. The signs are, in my opinion, easy to see. Global warming and the end of the fossil fuels will destroy the financial foundations of the West. The economies based on a great industry will be the first to go down. The increasingly bigger disasters caused by global warming won't help either. But far more important is the moral decay of the West. Everyday I see on the news children shooting their deskmates, teachers or parents. We are all part of the "eat crap, get fat" cult (myself a McDonald's & KFC junky, although not fat at all) and more and more the giant multinational corporations control every part of our life, with the New World Order becoming an ever greater threat. The capitalistic world promotes all the wrong virtues it's masterpiece being the great money chase. The fast development of this world makes us loose our identities. The psychologists say that someone that does not remember it's "roots" is easily manipulated. And that is what TV does best... Todays world no longer has the values it was built on. That is why it's decline is predictable and ultimately inevitable. It's just like a train going too fast... it will inevitably derail. This is my grim view of the times to come. How do you see the future of the world? " I also strongly belive in this theory and I just think we won't do anything to stop Global Warming and those stuff. which is why i always take stock of survival techniques i could learn, since there may come a time (who knows, it could be in our lifetimes!) when a total collapse of human civilization will occur, and it will become a dog-eat-dog world (not that it ain't already wink.gif) and the survival of the fittest is every living man's credo, every man on his own. makes me wish there is an entire world where one can migrate to, if push comes to shove and the only way to survive is to leave earth. perhaps it is now more than ever that a hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy is needed (don't forget your towels, people!). wink.gif or maybe a set of kryptonian crystals which embodies all the knowledge of the entire civilizations of the human race, so that when humans decide to self-destruct, every knowledge will still be available for the remaining survivors to recreate our world and our way of life (minus the pitfalls which can lead to another extinction-level scenario). and if there were DNA strands in our genetic chain for human values such as greed and envy (which i'd say are man's main achilles' heel), then we should splice them out of our DNAs to help future generations persist in this world. could be the only way human life can project itself unscathed throughout time. Even tought that kinda made sense you sounded crazy O.o...

I agree with you but I think that western civilization is too small of a group and you should include our entire human population as it is all in decline. The thing is that the more we develop rationally, the less our fundamental inner wisdom goes away and we start to think that this life that we live is really everything there is - only we and our own life! When we develop, we make new things, we produce incredible things and innovation is the key to everything, but how come there are more suicides, how come that people are less happy than they were in the past. OK, I admit, our lives are easier in the sense of material satisfaction, but why do we need all this? Marketing makes us want stuff that we don't need and it offers us constant innovations so that we never stop thinking about new things - that only ads gas to our fire of desires which are endless! Why not extinguish this fire of desires? Imagine how good we would feel if there wouldn't be a new desire every second! You get a peace of bread and you are thankful, without any further desires!? That is harder than ever in our modern world and this is one of the reasons our whole earth-population is in decline... BUT it is all a circle - when we have nothing to eat, we want more of course as we want to survive - then comes the era when we have enough food, but nothing else that would distract our mind so we can only eat when we eat, sleep when we sleep and consequentially be happy! But there are a few who are not satisfied with that sort of situation and want more and more and more - they have desires! And these desires bring us to constant development and innovations - you wait a few years and rational human is able to create cars, space ships and all sorts of unnecessary crap that is marked as amazing progress?! But as you guys have noticed, this does not bring us any more happiness - it makes us miserable and we also destroyed the earth...So we start to decline - we destroy ourselves so to speak - things get tougher and tougher and eventually only a few people survive! Guess what they don't have any food and then comes the era when we have enough food, but nothing else that would distract out mind so we only eat when we eat, sleep when we sleep and are happy consequentially! But there are a few.... - I think you know how it goes on! OK, that's the way life goes! But what can we do with OUR lives? Well that is the most important questions and my suggestion is to sit when you sit, sleep when you sleep and eat when you eat - the desire will pass away and what will be left to make you miserable???

Why Did The Roman Empire Fall?
The reasons for its decline and fall (28) It has been two weeks since I returned from a trip to Rome (among other cities). It was one of my

Many of my friends didn't like Rome, because, as they said: "there are only a bunch of stones to

Colosseum, the Imperial forums or Trajan's Column, so much history and power in a single city.

the beauty and safety of the nation's roads, and recalled defective cars. It has salvaged
deteriorating railroads and addressed numerous problems concerning urban mass transportation. Desp....

the energy drive in the car it would use a sort of fusion to create a bunch of energy to power to
car. Adn the poof energy from things you were originally going to thorw away anyway, so why not use
it for your car? I was seriously thinking about the concept the other day and....
