Yeah, w3schools.com rocks, you can learn anything you want there, and their examples rule! you can also search for the inpics books. They have this book called phpinpictures. Its really good.

Well thats good for a brief idea to PHP and getting started with the basics. But it is always better to have a copy of the PHP Manual and the MySQL manual for explicit explanation and compatibility issues.
You can download that from the PHP site(www.php.net) and MySQL Site(www.mysql.com)
