Hello everybody, The browser war is going on the major contestants are i) Microsoft Internet Explorer ii) Mozilla Firefox iii) Opera Everyone is a star in their on category If we take the case of IE Microsoft has the support of a large audience But it can't capture he market with only that Mozilla foundation is supported by technologists around the world Opera with its loyal fans (like me) But my point is that As browser wars is heating up the final gains to us who are the users As I said before opera is my favorite browser because i) it loads pages faster than any other browser out there ii) best cache management iii) mouse gestures iv) nice interface v) integrate mail client vi) integrated RSS reader vii) voice navigation viii) tabbed browsing ix) sessions x) horizontal scroll bar eliminator xi) page zoom xii) integrates search xiii) integrated IRC client xiv) after all better security The one minus point I found for opera is it need an ad blocker For stopping bandwidth hungry ads May be they will release one soon Sujith john Abraham Alieneyes

Personally, I don't like opera. I don't like the layout and the way certain things are done on it. You say "i) it loads pages faster than any other browser out there" that is doubtful unless you did tests and even then, I still wouldn't believe it. There is only so fast a browser can load a page and that mainly depends on your internet speed. I think that opera has basically all of the same stuff as firefox. Though, some of the features are plugins you can get. I got a question though, does opera let you have plugins? I tried opera once and didn't like it so I uninstalled it. If opera doesn't have plugins, that firefox pwns opera. Plugins help so much because it allows other brilliant people to make nice additions to the browser which makes the browser much better. I love plugins but thats my opinion, just giving my 50 cents :\ xJedix

opera doesn't belong with firefox and ie. It's not a very good browser, and the only thing its better at than ie and firefox is its compatability with CSS. It's pretty much a testing ground to see if your CSS is working the way its supposed to theoretically, but if you use slightly obscure functions, you're screwed with ie or firefox.

I've used Opera for a while in stead of Firefox, but I'm abck to firefox now. Opera had some strange behavior with all cookie based websites making posts mysteriously read / unread. Altrough my firefox has some problems with PostNuke and PHP Nuke sites.

i like opera and i use opera. The good thing about opera is that it loads real fast, and the toolbar for internet pages tabs is at the top, so it doenst clog up my window like what Internet Explorer does. Also, IE is full of problems and seriously downloading stuff with opera is really much better. I vote opera, use opera for optimal results

I would not consider Opera to be the best browser. Why would Opera want to put in an ad blocker when they would be blocking themselves (the ads on the top of the browser if you do not register)? Firefox is the best way to go it is secure, has an ad blocker, has alot of addons, has a good layout, and is an all around good browser. Even Internet Explorer is free so even it is better than Opera.

QUOTE(wariorpk @ Oct 2 2005, 02:28 PM) Why would Opera want to put in an ad blocker when they would be blocking themselves (the ads on the top of the browser if you do not register)? Opera is free like Firefox and Internet Explorer, and there are no ads on it AT ALL! If you don't believe me, go to http://www.opera.com/ and you'll see. Also, Opera IS actually faster. Here are some sources: http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/browserSpeed.htmlQUOTE So overall, Opera seems to be the fastest browser for windows. Firefox is not faster than Internet Explorer, except for scripting, but for standards support, security and features, it is a better choice. However, it is still not as fast as Opera, and Opera also offers a high level of standards support, security and features. http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-981.phpQUOTE The results are as follows:
Internet Explorer 6 (with SP1) = 1m 35s Netscape 7.02 = 1m 20s Mozilla 1.3.1 = 1m 00s Opera (7.11) = 0m 40s
You can also try a Google search for "Browser Speed Test" to find out more.

Sorry for double posting, a mod can merge the posts. ------ QUOTE I don't like the layout and the way certain things are done on it. Opera is fully customizable, and you can move everything around just as you want it. Also, you can download lots of skins for it. For more info, visit: http://my.opera.com/community/customize/

In my opinion, now that Opera is free, it is one of the leading browsers. It takes a bit of getting used to - I was reluctant when I first started toying with it, but after I became accustomed to the interface and its features, I find it difficult to use anything else (including Internet Explorer and FireFox - they just don't seem as good). That's my two cents, anyway.

Opera tries to render the page very fast. Because of which there are many many many sites which don't render properly. Especially Javascript. I have always had trouble with Javascript. Just consider the case of Trap17.com Forums. You get the following results :- Firefox : The Ticket Javascript does not show any animation. However, it does tick properly after the 8 sec. interval. Opera : Ticket does not tick at all. In the new version, it might work. IE : Perfect, as usual. My opinion, Try AVANT BROWSER. One of the best Browsers that I have found. Its the best choice for Web Designers who want to have the quality of IE and speed of Firefox. However, this browser is under going slow development, propably because it does not have much support. I hope, with more donations and support, it will be the next popular browser.

QUOTE(Cain @ Oct 5 2005, 07:36 AM) Like Opaque said, Avant Browser has the great quality of Internet Explorer, but the speed of Firefox. It is fully customizeable with skins and adjustable button position. I just want to say that the "speed of firefox" is the same as the "speed of Internet Explorer". The only difference is that firefox shows the site when the HTML is still loading, but Internet Explorer loads the whole page BEFORE displaying it. But if you try to load a normal page on Firefox AND Internet Explorer, the time the page loads will be the same. QUOTE(dontmaimyourself @ Oct 2 2005, 09:16 PM) I personally am not a great fan of Opera, I really dislike the layout especially that annoying thing that pops out of the address bar with search and bookmarks and stuff like that in, ok so it is far superior to IE, I still am a firefox man myself. As I mentioned on the first page, Opera is fully customizable, and everything you are mentioning in above can be easily changed.

What happened to 2 & 3? QUOTE(Spectre @ Oct 6 2005, 03:15 AM) That said, I do intend to check the first Internet Explorer 7.0 stable release out - maybe it will change the opinions of many Windows users (although the fact that it is still a part of the Microsoft monopolization automatically gives it a lot of negative cred). Ugh, I'm quite sick of all the FireFox hype. I do agree that it's a good browser, but the fact that it's been treated as more important than a cure for cancer irritates me.
IE7 is still not going to be a fully standards-compliant browser - it's gone some way to correcting errors in IE6, but not all the way. As for Firefox, I can't speak for why everyone else extols its virtues, but as I wrote above, the reason it is held in such high regard with standards-conscious web designers is because it adheres to those standards so closely. That and the fact that you can install a range of extensions to aid in web design/development.

Ugh, I'm quite sick of all the FireFox hype. I do agree that it's a good browser, but the fact that it's been treated as more important than a cure for cancer irritates me. I think it's safe to say there are about 17 million topics about it just on Trap17, let alone the entire web ('Results 1 - 100 of about 109,000,000 English pages for "firefox". (0.63 seconds)'). And I don't like the attitude a lot of (primarily young) FireFox users seem to adopt - if you don't use FireFox, then 'omg!!!1 u r lame rofl!!!'.

I'm sorry, did you just use IE & quality in the same sentence? What quality would that be then? And when you say it's the best choice for web designers, I'm afraid you're wrong. Avant is built on the IE engine. IE doesn't support the W3C web standards properly, so in no way can it be deemed the best web browser for web designers. Firefox, on the other hand, is a standards-compliant browser, so web designers should use FF as their base browser and then modify and work around to get things right in other browsers. Most of the time your work arounds will be for IE. As for Opera, I use it for reading my POP and web mail and I like it for that aspect (also like it's password manager too), but I use Firefox as my main browser for the reason stated above, but also because of its more advanced extensibility over Opera.

Free Netscape Browser
- New version stinks, but classic is a hit (3)
My favorite browser is Netscape 7.2. This Mozilla-based browser puts AIM and ICQ, email, newsgroups,
and Web page editing under one roof. I got used to the steel look after some time, and the buddy
list is always a click away (just hit F9 or click the sidebar button). It works with 95% of all Web
sites I visited (otherwise I take a quick trip back to Micro$oft'$ dominating IE). The
new version (8.0) trims down off email and Web authoring components, and adds little news buttons on
a personal toolbar. Version 8 stinks on ice, but the classic 7.2 is the best....

Yesterday, Opera became totally free, and the ads are now removed from the browser! They have
