Combine Mediawiki And Wordpress

varalu
I have a small requirement here. Is it possible to combine a wordpress and a mediawiki. It might be a little strange why I want to do this, thats because I want a blogging platform to be integrated within the wiki I have now, instead of using one of the articles to be used to post stuff... where commenting and feedback cannot be obtained. So, thats where the need for integration comes and I am very doubtful if i can do it better without making much change to the existing installation and not bringing down the service...

If some one have a work around or a better and alternate solutions, do post them here.

But this is what I feel..

From my search, we will not be able to integrate wordpress and mediawiki without much code change in mediawiki and in wordpress php files. It can be done (uncertain), but the problem being the replication of the current situation of the wiki in future and stability of the whole package. Instead we can use the separate wordpress installation along with the wiki, may be we can use the same MySQL instance and use various databases, where all the requirements like posting interesting stuffs, pics etc + comments will be met and it is easy to maintain separately.

In case of mediawiki, you should also take the pain of having to deal with backup scripts and stuffs like that which is not the case with wordpress.
Backup, replication and stuffs are already part of the wordpress package, so nothing extra have to be done. I strongly think that we do not have this in the wiki. If something goes wrong, bringing all this incorporations into the wiki will become a huge task and may also turn out to be a failure...

BUt, i will leave it for the members to give me suggestions and ideas??

Okay, Wordpress has a LOT of addons you can use. Maybe if we knew what you were trying to accomplish we could point you to some addons. I'm not sure about the MediaWiki and Wordpress marriage (wow, that must be difficult), but Wordpress has a lot of great extendibility. I know there are video player plugins and more for Wordpress.

Combine Mediawiki And Wordpress

EXCELLENT idea - especially under the hood where they COULD share the same MySQL database and, depending on the call, an entry could appear in a wiki-interface or a blog interface. For instance, authors could email in their blog and it would appear as a wiki page, but responders who want to discuss would get a wiki discussion page. There are so many fascinating possibilities here, and MySQL would be the heart of both views of the same data. HELP! This is a MUST HAPPEN idea!

Can others not only list other synchronicity ideas, but also show how they can be implemented together - "wikipress"!

More?

Thanks!

This is a major upgrade to the core code. QUOTE "The most obvious changes are the new style for
