QUOTE Former First Lady Slams GTA New York Senator Hilary Rodham Clinton sides with right-wingers against violent videogames. by Douglass C. Perry
March 29, 2005 - Hilary Rodham Clinton, D, NY, has taken sides. Apparently, the wrong one. In an article with the Sunday Times, the first-time senator and two-term first lady, said she wants to launch a $90 million investigation into the effects of videogames on children.
Her efforts mirror long-time Senator Joseph Lieberman D, Ct, though this time she has sided with right wing Republicans Sam Brownback and Rick Santorum.
She cites Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto as as a "major threat" to morality in America.
"Children are playing a game that encourages them to have sex with prostitutes and then murder them," Clinton said in a statement. "This is a silent epidemic of media desensitisation that teaches kids it's OK to diss people because they are a woman, they're a different colour or they're from a different place."
Apparenly Clinton is new to the subect of violence in videogames, which first erupted over the finshing moves in Mortal Kombat. Having sex with a prostitute and then running said woman over in GTA is not a goal or mission in the game, leaving that option open to the morality and choice of the gamer. Furthermore, GTA3, which kick-started this new wave of complaints against violence in videogames, came out in 2001, almost four years ago. Clinton's statement appears to be the first part of her bid for the democratic presidential election in 2008.
Clinton's proposed $90 million investigation will study the impact of games and other electronic media on the "cognitive, social, emotional and physical development" of children, reports the Sunday Times.
We'll have more on Clinton's pre-presidential campaign ideas in the near future. http://psp.ign.com/articles/599/599798p1.htmlwill this be the end of violent games??? i hope not

I consider free speech an important pillar of society but it is not without limits. While, there is disagreement on the virtues of allowing violence in video games there is a large consensus that child ponorogrophy should not be allowed. It is not unreasonable for the government to study the effects of violence in video games. However, I would hope that the studies don’t just duplicate previous studies and are objective and unbiased. One a conclusions is reached about the impact of violet video games is significant enough to constrain our right to free speech. I would say that it would be difficult to draft lagilastion that can give adequate guidance to what if any games are worthy of restrictions. Moreover, there is a possibility for corruption. Regulators could be bought off allowing wealthier game producers to monopolize the violent video game market. Where would the restrictions stop, will football, hockey and boxing be banned? Well, the news no longer be able to report on crime. The more the more power we give the state to tell us what we can see the more they will be able to tell us how to think and how to act. I suggest preceding with the greatest caution in any such legislation.

Funny how everytime in news like this, people always mention Rockstar Games and GTA, there are so much more in that genre than just GTA, I hate it when the public always lay the blame on video games, movies and music, what happend to the responsibility of parents?? I remember in the old days my parents would beat the sh1t of me for something stupid that I did (i'm asian).

I don't understand why people are making a big deal out of video games what she need to be concerned with is education. If people spent more time looking into public schools and making sure funding is available for educational trips and books then kids wouldn't be into video games as much. Pfft what a waste of government funding.

the major thing that leads people to violence would most likely be how they were brought up. if you have a very tough childhood with poor relationships with family or other people, or if you get abused you are going to be more likely to commit violent acts. i think people are blaming the video game industry just because they need to put a reason out there that people can criticize. taking violence out of video games would destroy the video game industry. there are so many games that have some sort of violence. then after that they will try to take out card/casino games because they will start saying that it makes people want to go gamble and then they will get addicted and we will have more homeless people without any money.

A $90 millon study on the effects of video games? What a massive waste of public funds. Violent video games are just the new boogie man to blame for the sorry emotional state of the youth in this nation. Maybe if parents worried less about making money and spent more time education their children, things like this wouldnt be an issue.

People like to blame video games because it is easy, even though in most cases, it is not founded. I would like to do a study into the number of people who own or have played GTA San Andreas, and then see how many of them have become crazed killers. I would like to guess that the number of crazed killers would be a tiny number compared to the number of GTA owners. Plus, games have age limits on them for a reason, to ensure that little 8 year olds don't play them. If they are allowed to play such games, then a parent or guardian should be ensuring that they don't have access to these types of games. The video games leading to psychotic behaviour belief is just a myth, which has no real evidence or proof.

I hate liberals. Yea lets blame all the violence on video games when it's really just is there home life. When there is violence with little kids or like school shootings elderly people like to blame it on the video games we play. Well I think if they played it they would know that games do not make you wanna go kill prostetutes. And they always link the bad stuff to GTA and there are a lot more games that is just like that. I was watching the news and this kid shot a cop and I guess he told the police department that he learned how to shoot from GTA San Andraes....I think that is bullcrap excuse you don't learn how to shoot a gun from a video game..So people need to find somthing other to blame than just harmless video games.

Favorite Video Games Characters
From the old NES to the new Xbox360 and PS3 (1) I remember playing the old Zelda games on the NES system and Link was little more then a 8-bit dot
with big ears and a green hat. It really didnt have much of a story plot to it and the characters
weren't really in depth, but it was still fun to play. As the gaming world advanced, graphics
got better and game system held more memory. This gave me a new respect for gaming because Link had
a personally, life like and believable. Metal gear was also one of my favorites. In the old nes game
I really didn't care if I die, it was like "ok whatever Im dead" but in the P....
Any Good Games To Play?

explain, being that the title didn't give much room to explain it and all. I'm looking for
some of people's favorite games, it can be old, it can be new, I appreciate nostalgia just as
much as I appreciate playing the newest thing. Just to mark out a few things, MP3 isn't one of
the possibilities as it's already been beaten, Bioshock I'm already playing so I don't
need anything about that, pretty much any Megaman or Megaman X game is covered since I....

Capture Video From Tv And Put It On Computer?

those people made videos of sick kills in Halo 2 or on any console game. I have a top of the line TV
