| | I have my forums currently hosted on another web-server, but I decided that this one would be better since I can use my domain name...
I've uploaded all of my vBulletin files needed for installing and running the forums, but it won't work...

you will need to explain more than "it won't work"... are the files in your public-html folder or a sub-folder? is the config file correctly updated with information like db name, user?

most users will put it in the main instead of public_html

unless it is in the public_html or www folders (or a sub-folder under those two) it will not be web accessible.

QUOTE(jlhaslip @ Dec 1 2007, 12:32 PM) unless it is in the public_html or www folders (or a sub-folder under those two) it will not be web accessible. It is in the public_html folder... All files were uploaded, I made a database/user for database on the free webhosting account from qupis, and fully installed and configured the forums (through the VB install php pages), but after deleting 'install/install.php' and 'install/upgrade1.php' per the instructions VBulletin comes with as part of its package, all that shows up on my website is "{" and the ads from qupis. I've attached all I see to better describe the problem...

Not certain if this applies to Qupis or not, but have you Granted Privileges to the DB user for the DB? Mysql might need to have the user privileges Granted, so the Db connection is failing??? As a Moderator here on the Trap, I can not have a Qupis account, so I really am working blindly on this one. Check to see if the mysql Admin has a selection for Granting Privileges to Users.

Dumb question but isn't it impossible to run a forum like vbulletin due to the size of all the files and what not? I will answer my own question because I just seen it and the answer would no since I can see the forum running on the site.

Assigning full privileges to a User is one thing, but GRANTing the privleges is another. Unless you GRANT the privileges, Mysql is not aware of them being changed for that user.

It seems I am having the same exact problem. My forums will not show up at all, but instead of it being vBulletin it is IPB 2.3.3 that I am having the exact same problems.

Qupis Support is on the case to see if some Apache modules may be in conflict with certain scripts. Please stay tuned. I would have Cc'ed to you, ilikeham, but your email address was not issued to me. I will keep you updated through responses I get from Qupis Support. Thank you.

Just in case you didn't know, some servers do not allow hosting forums like vbulletin cos they are too server intensive. So i think it's best to stick to the light ones like SMF and phpbb.

I have tried mu.xisto.com/~cpanel_uername/forum.php retursn 404 error. ilikeham, your patience is greatly appreciate and if you trust me with your cpanel name and password, I'd like to take a look at your account and try to install vbulletin for you (at least I can do for the time you've waited this long). PM me with your information and I'll take a look at it tomorrow (my time GMT-5). I'd like to try installing different forum script and see if the same phenomenon occurs. If it's only pertaining to vBulletin script I will consult with OpaQue further. Thank you.
