I'm encountering errors if I try to install/remove anything — after I tried to install gcdemu via the package manager, because I needed to extract a .mdf/.mds compressed archive as cdemu is the only software I know that does that in Linux. Take a look at this Launchpad bug report and its many duplicates. There are a few difference suggestions for solutions offered there.

Did you try deleting the old value? I'm not sure why it just doesn't overwrite the value, but edit the file for the "old value" and remove the relative line(s). And just in case, back up the file before editing: sudo cp /etc/xml/scrollkeeper.xml /etc/xml/scrollkeeper.xml~

I solved the error by using the solution found here (it's shortened, because it didn't get to the location if clicked for some reason — seems that that's why rvalkass' url didn't lead to it) Simply put, you have to do this: - sudo aptitude remove rarian-compat — then hit n for No when aptitude asks you to accept the first solution and accept the second soluton with y // this will remove lots of packages that depend on it and are used by Gnome (take a note of them somewhere), be careful, use another DE like KDE or Xfce when you do this.
- sudo aptitude install scrollkeeper
- sudo aptitude update
- sudo aptitude remove scrollkeeper
- sudo aptitude install rarian-compat
- sudo apt-get install gnome-applets // this will automatically install everything that was gnome related and removed by the first command. If you have other packages dependant on rarian-compat and not installed with this step, use the notes I told you to make when you removed it.
This effectively solved my problem, and I believe it will be gone at you too reader facing this problem, you just need to follow those instructions exactly

Network Install Linux On Laptop With No Cd Drive?
(6) I was hoping some linux tech heads here could give me some pointers about installing linux onto a
laptop I have which has no cd drive. To make things worse it does not even boot from usb. I had
installed XP on it with an unattended install using the /makelocalsource switch which copies files
to the local hdd then finishes setup from there after reboot. Is there an easy switch function to
install any linux distro once you have the files on your hdd? (I have a mapped network drive to my
laptop and sharing from my desktop so i can access my files. I just don't know if....
Os X Leopard Upgrade/full Install

(10) I've made a PrintScreen of the error, it appears after a fresh install and i suspect that until
the antivirus has updated its viruslist my computer might have been scanned and infected somehow.

Adding More Packages After Install Is Done?
Linux (CentOS 4.2) (1) I recently installed CentOS 4.2 on an old computer of mine and then I realized that I needed a few
more packages than I selected during installation. I need some of the Developer Tools packages
(mainly gcc for compiling stuff). Is it possible to use the install CDs to get the packages now or
do I have to reinstall? It's not connected to the internet so I can't get them there, and

Is It Legal To Install Windows Xp On Another Hdd?
(6) Ok so the machine in question has a old 5400rpm drive with WindowsXP on it. I'm considering
replacing it with a long over due upgrade to a Raptor 10,000rpm. My motherboard has the input so
that isn't a problem. Rather, the problem is that I can't transfer all Windows files to
another harddrive by simply copying them over. Also, I've been having a lot of problems with
my current setup and figure a clean install of Windows would be just as well, killing two birds with

Suse 10 Special Grub On Install Dvd For Holidays
The above probally makes no sense (0) I booted my computer off of my SUSE 10 install dvd this morning, and the coolest thing happened. The
GRUB background on the disk was of lots of little penguins running around in the snow with santa
hats on. I know it probally sounds like I'm making this up, but try it for yourself. It's
really funny. I think they have it installed to check the BIOS date, and if it's December 25th,
it displays that background. Sorry I can't put a screenshot up, but I'm not in the OS to do
that.....

Windows Won't Boot Up
