| | Hi all, How does the internet affect your thinking ability?? There's little real "accountability" out there on the net. Anybody can post just about anything ... I you take what someone says on the net at "face value" ... and believe it. ..then the "wrong" idea gets inside your head .. and can make you "stupid". Some associated questions to think about: Who do you believe as an authority on a subject ???? Who do you trust?? How do know when to trust them? How many "blind alleys" have you been led down by mis-informed ppl, lying ppl, or just plain stupid ppl with no real experience ?? Just some thoughts, RGPHNX |

Yeah i have seen it all before... Using phones damages your brain, watching tv damages your brain, playing games damages your brain. The funny thing though, is if it does all this damage, would we ever really know? We only really use about 12% of our brain in the first place. Most likely if it were some how to be damaged i dont think it would be a part we would know about. And it would wrought away and you would live life as you already did. All this really goes back to is that any and everything gives you cancer. If you dont die of anything, cancer will kill you. And I honestly think that this is just another attempt to scare kids off of computers so that they will exercise more. I get pleanty of exercise already, i just cant sleep at night so i get on here and rack up some credits so my site, so if by doing that im wroting my brain, then yes i am...

It may, but it will probably depend on the circumstances. It doesn't really do it to me (unless I don't realize it), but perhaps if you trust everyone (or just about) that you meet on the internet, then it probably can. Even by listening to the wrong person, it could. Although, it still may not. Hey, I don't really know this for sure, so that's just a thought.

Obviously yes and no... The internet is the ultimate source for researching stuff. Basically everything you could think of is on the internet, so if people surfed just to learn stuff you could get fairly smart...that would be a dull life. It is bad for you too. Gettin hooked on gaming, chatting, and yes, the dirty films and pictures can harm the social life and other things...too much computer and it'll be bad for you...

Only some parts. Going into forums and constantly watching peoples incorekt langweg, gramer 'n' spelin aswel a forem abreeviashons must have some affect on how you spell and think. Say your 12 and your living with someone who doesn't know langauge very well and that someone is trying to teach you your language their way, after 4 months or so your language will alter slightly and keep on parting with your real home language. Forums are just the same.

I have a friend who believes everything he sees on the internet. I mean the topic could be ridiculous and he will swear me up and down it's God given truth because he saw it on the internet. Some people need to check the website certificate to see if the page is authentic. Or even look at the information about the author..Whether the author has some type of degree in the field he/she make an inquiry about or not. The internet I say makes people stupid, antisocial, and lazy just because information is just a keystroke away now. People don't have to get up and go to the library to get information. They don't have to talk to anyone in person because we have aim, msn, and yahoo messengers. Everything has become so impersonal. We talk and trust people was have never saw in face. That's loco.

It depends on what you use the internet for. One thing is for sure is that you don't want to get too hooked on it. There's nothing wrong with web-learning at all, but don't forget to shut the computer off and get out in the fresh air every now and then. Air is good - and it's free as well! ...and now I'll cast my vote.

Certainly. Our susceptibility to falsehood set forth by mendacious minds will corrupt our reasoning degree. Especially so in forums. The silhouette stature of a forumer will push you to abstract acceptance of what it says. It will leave you in a limbo with crossroads of truth and falsity. Worse, you are led to accepting benign lies and unfounded statements embedded in lengthy and vocabulary-word-infested posts. Which, in Trap17, is delightful to some moderators.

QUOTE(chopsticky @ Jan 14 2008, 03:25 PM) Our society is creating an environment that is promoting mindless zombies who check their email, MySpace, Zanga, Friendster, Facebook, YouTube etc. every five seconds for no particular reason. I know because I can easily be one if I don't practice some self control. I have to agree to some extent, although I do regularly check email, messenger, etc every time I log on for messages and the like before going onto other sites for personal uses (from 2nd jobsearch, forums, gaming sites, hobby sites) and the like. I agree though that the recent increase in Blogs of late has gotten people to get on and tell em about what they may have done (eg I went to Joe Bloggs place and we maked out) and the like. But there are indeed some things on the blogs which could've either been private among a few friends, (eg password protected and/or buddy list only blogs), or better not posted if the ppl involved ended up getting "paid out" or "ripped" by complete strangers that they dont know

Tools can never do anything by themselves. They are simply things to aid people in completing tasks. Much have been said about the use of the internet being the culprit and not the tool itself so I agree with that. I believe in moderation and having too much of many things usually turn out to be bad things in the long run. The internet is great for communication and aquiring all sorts of useful/useless information. I use it for research all the time. Our society is creating an environment that is promoting mindless zombies who check their email, MySpace, Zanga, Friendster, Facebook, YouTube etc. every five seconds for no particular reason. I know because I can easily be one if I don't practice some self control.

Internet Sites To Real Life Creations
(2) Just been thinking on a simple analogy to internet and life. If you would say that internet is
space, and webistes are stars, than somehow i think it would lose meaning, couse most stars have
some sort of planets or thingies that rotate around them. If internet would be space then probably
web servers would be stars, and backbone computers would be galaxies. Backbone computers than again
are just main bandwith carriers around the world, and they couldn't be compared to galaxies

My Thoughts On Why Internet Explorer Is So Popular.
(11) I see little point in the "What browser do you use?" topic except to discuss the pros and cons of
different browsers. It's obvious that most people will use Internet Explorer because almost all
computers that are bought for people or sold to them are pre-loaded with Some version of Windows, in
which the only browser is Microsoft's own, Internet Explorer. And since a big proportion of
first-time computers users are not so computer savvy and do not become so because they do not really
need to, they will use what they are given. In the internet Cafe I am typing....

it's not up to me to say if it is, but I think it's not! I hate homosexuals because of
how now they make it seem like it's okay! For example, I was at a supermarket and there were
two guyz holding hands and kissing a little bit! My son then asks if it is okay for a man and a
man to get married? What should I say? I told him they were just close friend....
