To speed up boot up and shut down on windows xp and vista, look at PCStat.com's 99 Performance tips for XP ( http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1590. They will tell you how to stop XP from waiting to close a program on shutdown, run a program called bootvis for xp that speeds up the boot up and a whole bunch more tips for increase the performance of xp including download speeds, etc. This guide we use all time at work to help out our coworkers home computers and i have used it on everyone of mine. Well I think that all these performace tune ups if I may call them as performance tune ups will not speed up your computer that fast. I was reading similar article and it was not speed up my windows but you could never know what exactly can be and why certain things happen. So by excluding some of the devices it will speed your start up but not also you overall work so it depands which performance you are tuning up. Also antivirus software slows down computer but it is needed for security reasons and so on. The biggest feature you could do and it will make you start up certainly faster is to close all unneeded programs that start automatically with windows this endangers yours system and slows down uploading process of your windwos. Good luck with tuning.

Maybe this will cut off 5 seconds of bootup time and take off about 10 mb of RAM usage, but this will in no way boost performance unless you're running a really outdated system.

I've tried it and I don't think it speed up my computer, I think it depends of what spec of computer you're using. for example if your computer RAM is only 512mb, and running Windows Xp - it will be really usefull, but if your computer RAM is 2Gb, and running XP or Vista - it will be useless. that's what I can say....CMIIMW

If you bought a brand new computer within the past few years, you might have noticed that your
computer shipped with a Serial ATA (SATA) controller instead of the convetional Enhanced IDE (EIDE)

and their supported Hard Disk Drives have a higher data transfer speed against their IDE
counterparts. And they are supposed to use lesser amount of power thereby saving you more battery
life in your notebook's battery or UPS as the case may be. If you want to install and run ...

Windows Ntfs Folder And File Compression. Good Or Bad?

what FAT and NTFS means so I am not gonna start going into those. Well, the NTFS (Windows NT file
