Best Messaging Client

What do you think is the best messaging client?

Right now, I must say Trillian, because it allows multiple acount log ins at the same time. But it's only for windows, and I'm not sure if there's a linux version...and I am about to switch to linux.

So once I switch to linux, i'd probably go for Gaim. Although it does not allow multiple accounts, it does allow IRC chatting. and furthermore, it is open source ! there's a lot of room for improvement...but im not sure how much active its community is.

And although both Gaim and Trillian can be invited for a conference, they can't create one unlike Y!Messenger. And although Y!Messenger 8 can be modified to allow it to run multiple instances so that can you have multiple accounts loged in at the same time, it tends to slow things down a bit. and after awhile, i can no longer invite people to conferences with it, so i had to reinstall and leave out the registry as it is.

What about you guys, what do you think is the best messaging client?

depends..I don't really like skype (don't know why, just don't feel confortable using it:) )...so I go for Y!, because most (all?) of my friends have only a Y! id..but gaim is ok on linux..I used for a while and it is quite good:) (-for linux-) smile.gif

I am not very particular about these messaging clients. The only service I am using is MSN, I don't chat on other services such as IRC, Yahoo! and AIM. I guess the reason that everyone I know uses MSN so therefore I am not much into the new services. Windows Live Messenger does everything for me smile.gif

MSN got to be the best now since most of the ppl is using it and its the one that pushes the IM technology that far out! With the new live messenger, MSN contacts can now chat with yahoo contacts! And with using MSN you can contact to most of the ppl with messenging client! And the MSN Messenger keeps getting better in their features and everything works great around... However, they got to fixed their bug and their sign in problems with their Live Messenger since its the only main problem that's rejecting user...

MSN FTW! I personally only use MSN, I have no use for others. It IS the most customizable, with the help of MP!L (Messenger Plus! Live) and a messpatch. It's so easy to mess with it. Plus everyone I know uses MSN.

And I'm sure you can find a port of Trillian for Linux. Linux just owns so hardcore. I've used a Live Ubuntu disc, and it ran faster than the main OS did. (Windows ME)

Good luck on that, though. Hope you enjoy Linux. smile.gif

i say trillain for pc
gaim for linux

they both offer multiple accounts/clients in one program and requires less cpu and stuff for the one client compared to each of the other ones...

For the best client, I'd have to say Trillian, since it combines everything into one. Think about it. Instead of 4-5 annoying resource consuming programs, you could only have one! It looks cool too biggrin.gif

Windows Messenger? Yeah, right laugh.gif

I'm using Yahoo! Messenger, MSN Messenger, and from time to time, ICQ, Odigo, Skype, aaaaaaand... Hmmm... Oh yeah, Google Talk...

I personaly favour Yahoo over MSN, but I must use MSN, since my girlfriend uses MSN, and doesn't want to use Yahoo!, so I kind of use it just for her... Yahoo has those great emoticons, great smilies... The only thing they could put in, is adding a custom smilie, like MSN has... One thing that bothers me with Yahoo! is that it's kind of heavy on the system, don't know why... Maybe their working on fixing that, but hey, nobody's perfect (except for me tongue.gif)

Those would be my 2 cents... Yahoo! number 1, MSN number 2 biggrin.gif

Why use so many different clients, why doesn't everyone just use the same one? Would be much easier, yes indeed. Let's all go get Windows Messenger (owh, got it already smile.gif )

Windows Messenger > All

I give my vote to Yahoo!
I don't know about the technical stuff about which is more safer, etc. but Yahoo gets my full support for the interface, specially smilies .. they can really make me express..

  6. Filesharing
Searching for a private filesharing client (5)
Hey all, I'm looking for a small but simple tool, to exchange files with friends and family. I
know that all IM programs have built in file-sharing capability but that is not quite enough for me.
All I need is a little tool which would allow resumes and possibly secure (encrypted) transfers.
What I'm looking for is kind of like FTP but server and client in one program and very simple to
set up. For those of you who know what WASTE is, it comes pretty close but it would be good if it
also would allow unsecured transfer just for ease of use. I'd love to us....
  7. Trillian 3.1 Basic Or Pro
Overview of Trillian IM client (11)
Trillian an IM client that merges your existing Yahoo, MSN, AIM, ICQ, and IRC. I like it because it
frees up some space, other than having all 5 programs if you even use all five you have one and it
also uses less resources this way. You can use audio and video with it and it even can support a LAN
messenger for just the computers in your network. Nifty huh. Well you can CLICK HERE to find out
    more and download it.....
  8. Azureus (bit Torrent Client) Problem
    (5)
Hi everybody! I'm having some difficulties with my bit torrent client - Azureus. When I
download files (I usually download files larger than 400MB), the download stops at a random
percentage (but usually at the second half of the file)! 1st issue: I was downloading a 700MB
file, and by the time it got to 99.3%, the download speed hit zero. I was stuck in a "swarm" of
other bit torrent clients that have also downloaded 99.3% of the file, and nothing is
happening!!! I left it alone for about 4-5 hours, came back, and still 99.3%! I was
    so mad,....

size, easy to use and in particular features something that other instant messaging clients
don't have: the power of Audioscrobbler built-in. So try it out and give it a spin! If
you're running a portable version of Firefox on a thumbdrive this is a great extension to have.

  10. Bittorrent Client
What is your favorite BT client? (90)
I use BitTornado because it's very reliable for me, although at times, the GUI seems to freeze,
and I get very mad when that happens because I leave the computer on for a long time, so when I get
back, I expect a finished download. I've also tried BitComet. I don't know if this is me,
but the torrent seems to take SO much longer to finish downloading than it does on BitTornado. If
you've experienced this, post below. Shareaza is another client that I've tried, but it
doesn't seem to handel torrents very well.....
