Best Blog Tool?

bjrn
I'm sure a lot of people here blog, and Trap17 has quite a lot of different systems for easy installing, but which one do you think is the best? I'm asking because there just so many different to choose from in the "Addon Scripts" section, and I have no idea what the pros and cons are of the different systems.

So any personal experiences with good and bad sides would be great.

As you probably already have guessed I'm mainly looking for a discussion about blog systems that will run on Trap17. So saying "LiveJournal" doesn't count. smile.gif

the blogger software i have had good experiences with are Blogger™ and Invison Power Blogger™

my best friend runs a website technoblog.g4l.net and he uses Blogger™

my suggestion is if you really want a good blogger get either of those

Well, Blogger would require me to host it at Blogger (as far as I could tell from their website), and installing "all of them" is just undoable.

But I think I will install a few of them, because that seems to be the way to go to find out which is best. I think I'll start with Movable Type. smile.gif

I've used many blogs before, boastMachine, b2, Geeklog, and many others, I'd recommend the folowing.

1) If you want a nice simple blog, with simple posting an few set-ups, use b2, a non-graphical approach. (You can see a sample of how the blog looks like at www.cafelog.com)

2) If you want a more cutomizable blog, and more features, like RSS and pingbacks to blog websites, you should use boastMachine. (Check out a boastMachine "demo blog" at http://www.boastology.com/blog/)

3) And finally, if you're going for highly graphical, powerful Content Management, and a wealth of features, such as Static Pages, a Download Page, Mulitple posters, Categories, and highly customizble interface, many themes, and skins, you should use Geeklog, the one that I use now. (You can see how it looks like by seegin my GeekLog blog at http://xeek.uni.cc tongue.gif )

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip, this was the kind of advice I was looking for. I really want to be able to customize things as much as I want, so Geeklog does sound good.

Unfortunately I've already installed Movable Type and am busy playing around with it to find out what I can do with it. I might try Geeklog later on when I've played with MT a bit. smile.gif

Wordpress is the best. I have been using it for half a year now and the script is quite stable. There are also a lot of plug-ins that you can install and plenty of styles available. There is some room for improvement though, say, there is no built in backup function and you have to get a host which supports phpmyadmin. Also there is no abstraction layer like phpBB, so you have to stick to MySQL but not other database. The script is not as compact as some other GNU blogging scripts but the built in functions are really good.
