In my humble opinion, I would recommend AVG (http://www.grisoft.com) as one of the top antivirus packages. I think so for the following reasons:
It is completely free
Every day there are new virus definitions
You don't have to remember updating or checking for updates, it does it automatically.
It is a very straightforward and user friendly program.
It has never changed from free to paid.
Although there are paid for versions, Grisoft never spam or nag you to upgrade to a paid version.
They do not even advertise their paid versions (except on their web site of course).
Contrary to other virus packages, which either give you a certain period for free, or promise you a 'free' version, only to, after a few months of use, get in touch with you to tell you they will not be offering the free version anymore, AVG has been free and remained so in all the years (about 7 years now) I have been using it. i have never had a single email from them to try and persuade me to switch to a paid for package. And besides, it does the job you use it for very well.
I have been using NOD32 for monitoring files from threats, trojans and virus. NOD32 monitors files, documents and emails. I find it to be one of the most lightweighted antivirus program out there. As my own experience, I've recommend this program to customers and friends, because of the programs reliability. I havent got any threats in my system for almost three years time while using NOD32.

I know several computer companies in my neighbourhood, providing their customers computers with grisoft's AVG free edition. After running a NOD32 In-depth analysis on their AVG free protected system I'm soon to find a couple of threats that AVG free had missed out. It's now you starting wondering about how safe your computer is. I think it's horrible not knowing theres a threat executing your system when you think that you are protected and safe.
Oh, OK, always glad to learn somehing new. Could you let me know the URL where I can learn something about NOD32, and/or download it? Looks worth a test to me.

Just installed Linux Ubuntu on a partition with Wireless access to the Internet and have a question
about the need for an Ani-virus software. Is it suggested to have it installed? and which one is
recommended by the Trap17 users? Ubuntu 8.04 installed via Wubi, if that matters. Both the LAN
hard-wire connection and the Wireless Adapter work, if that matters.......
Hello, I was wondering if anybody knew of a good free lightweight antivirus program, as I just got
an internet connection on my slower computer. The computer itself can hardly be called
internet-ready, it's over 10 years old, but it still works fine, the problem is I'm worried
that an antivirus program would slow it down too much. (I have Norton Antivirus and Firewall on my
other computer, which is much faster, and it slows down the computer a lot, especially booting. I
kinda want this computer to be usable online.) I know that there are some great programs out ....
I think avast antivirus is the best antivirus software, it is free and avilabe for everyone, it scan
every thing fast, each page you open, each file you download, and everything thats working on the
computer, t is really good, it stops the danger so fast... Try it and let me know....
QUOTE I thought a virus was slowing my PC. Then I realized it was my security software.
It's an AVG slogan I saw it PCToday Magazine :-D ...It's true thats was a problem with me
from buying the computer in year 2000 I found that most of antiviruses are heavy to computer's
memory so it slows your system and makes your use very hard /huh.gif"

who use Avast anti virus. And what are your experiences with this antivirus software. I already
tried other programs but they didnt work good enough for me. Thanks....
Download.com announced latest chart of the most popular software downloads. In the chart, we can
see that anti spyware is most downloaded software. 4 out of 10 top downloads are anti spywares.
Beside anti spywares, the P2P softwares are very popular too. 3 out of 10 top downloads are various

Recently called Ewido anti-malware, product of Intel and Grisoft, has changed his name in his 4
version. Last few months users on forums are posting about this software. New version got better
look, but it is also does the better job. It is also good when you install it on already infected
computer. Of course, installed earlier he prevents adware, spyware, malware, keyloggers, worms,
trojans and other crap. App could be better in graphic look, but ad this program to your antivirus
and firewall package and you will have great level of safety. Price: 27 euro Score: 4/5 ....

I have already used: Spy Sweeper, Spybot, Ad-aware, mccafe anti-spy, microsoft anti-spyware and

Reding OS news I stumbled over this article that ran my bloodpressure up because it's on the
Microsoft monopoly issue. I begun with hating microsofts because their unfair politics on customers
and on the free market but my anger was not constructive at all. Now I don't hate it any more,
it has no point, but learn every day about alternatives that are free (open-source) and that can do
for many people or even businesses and advocate those in front of my friends and acquaintances (hope
wrote that right :-) ). On the other hand i now appreciate people inside Microso....
Well I picked Norton 2006 last night since my subscription ran out so I thought I give a review on
it and let you the members of trap get a good idea what it all before getting it. The First thing I
notice what was different then most Norton software after it install it automatically does the first
scan of the computer (13 warnings_adware). Also for the first time it checks programs that connect
to the internet as well but just a bit better as well then that awful 2005 where the block programs
came up ever 2 minutes that was finally fixed. Also it does a tab FYI on yo....
This program has been a "Best freind" to all of us for a couple years loving all stuff free. Many
of us are familiar with the free version of Ad-Aware, which removes unwanted adware and spyware
after they land on your PC for $27 the plus version offers more proactive features, such as
real-time monitoring for blocking pop-up ads. It also prevents home-page switches in your Web
browser, and it prohibits Web site-based Active-X programs from installing on your PC. Finally, the
program lets you back up adware components before you remove them, in case you accidentally....

Ok. I got rid of NAV(Norton Anti-Virus) and installed AntiVir. The only reason I did this is
because I just bought this computer and NAV was all messed up. It refused to update so I got angry
at it and threw it into the ocean. But anyways, AntiVir is just temporary while I'm away from
home. But enough of that, so the first thing AntiVir did was tell me i had a trojan....I got a
message about this a day or 2 ago and this is what it was: trojan.wn32.apropo.225280 pro files>auto
update>autoupdate.exe That was what an anti-hack program warned me about from a Korea....
i find norton anti virus to be more of a hassle than anything on my system. i currently have it
disabled because of the constant warnings and 'tips' it 'provides'. i have talked
with other people about this, and have set up someones new computer that they have little knowledge
about and the responses i get are the same, people are annoyd with it. do you find it protects well?
do you find it too intrusive? any other anti virus programs you prefer over norton?....
So I was updating my free version today and it told me that I had 5 things in my vault. I was

Hey.. i got Kaspersky anti-virus.. ive been using it forwhile and all the sudden it wont open.. i
think i got a trojen.. but when i run some online anti-virus it wont find nothing... any1 know what
it might b?....
Have your anti-virus failed? are you full of trojans? and now your computer has your settings all
changed? it happened to me... but i found a program that completes my anti-virus, a kind of
"Settings Firewall". every time anything is changed (desktop, internet conections, startup) it warns
you and let you decide to allow or reset the change. It has a sort of usefull tools to keep your
computer running well and it also block "web bugs". this is good because if your antivirus fails,
GSH will catch all the changes a virus/trojan does to your computer and let you reset them.....
So my AOL keeps telling me that I need to download a new anti virus. It keeps giving me McAfee, but
I have heard that they aren't so good. Which anti-virus progs do you people use that you feel is
the best?....
Anyone got that W32.Bagel virus yet? Supposably its spreading through Canada and U.S. Its pretty
vicous (smart setup tho). It makes files that sound like adult material and it puts them in folders
containing "shar". What that does it it puts those files that have the worm in them and those
folders containing "shar" like My Shared Folder, Shared Downloads, etc, the folders for programms
like kazaa and limewire, people download those files thinking they are downloading adult material,
but they just get the worm, and then it happens all over again.....
