Apple Finally Unveils Video Ipod - Apple Finally Unveils Video iPod

t's official. At an event in San Jose Wednesday, Apple ended months of speculation by introducing the first video-enabled iPod, moving the company into the portable media center space.
"Yes, it does video," Apple CEO Steve Jobs said in his keynote address as the audience erupted in applause.
The new iPod sports a 2.5-inch TFT display in a design similar to the iPod Nano. The 320x240 pixel display supports only 260,000 colors, but the iPod does include a video-out jack for hooking up to a TV. Real-time decoding of MPEG-4 and H.264 video content is supported.
The new iPod will come in sizes of 30 and 60GB, with retail prices of $299 and $399, in line with prices of the previous models, although with more capacity. Apple, noticing the high demand for its black iPod Nano, will also make the new model available in that color as well.
Both models are thinner than the current 20GB iPod.
Two new ads will help promote the iPod, including one starring U2 and another with Eminem, who incidentally just settled a lawsuit with Apple over using one of the rap artist's songs in a recent iPod commercial without authorization.
Also, likely in an effort to prevent future public relations problems like that of the Nano and its scratching issue, Apple will include a protective case with every new iPod.
yeah, Apple has been always tuning its strategy.. It unvield the new Video Ipod and priced it at $299, the same as earlier Color Ipod 20GB but with a difference.
It added 10 GB to the earlier 20GB and did away with AC adapter that was a standard accessory with the earlier Ipod. Now u need to shell out an extra 30$ for the AC Adapter.
I feel it should have continued the earlier range of 20GB Ipod and reduced the price a little. Now u either have 4GB or 30 GB, nothing to go between them...
On the other hand it would be truly nice to have Ipod play the video. I have been planning to get one for myself too.. but now thinking whether to shell out 30$ extra or to do with charging through my computer... Another thing is that they have added Black color too...
Also the U2 special edition seems to have been discontinued... that might be bad news for the U2 fans...
That's great news! Finally, I have something I'm gonna look forward to! I'm actually more fond of watching than listening to music, so being able to watch a video will be a plus, since my PPC broke, and I can't watch stuff anymore. Anyway, having the U2 Edition discontinued is a bit sad, since my friend was really looking forward to it. Ah well, guess it's business!
I check out that link.. No one is saying that such devices are not available.. And what you call overpriced is not so much I suppose... coz.. for the one you pointed out.. 40GB version costs 600 Euro which is over 700$ as far as I calculated from a site at todays exchange rate.
while the Ipod is for 299$.. yeah, the screen is bigger at 7", you can play games, but the number of formats supported by Ipod are more than Archos. Archos details for 40GB, 600 Euro model.

Record directly from your TV, VCR, DVD player, cable & satellite box • Watch on the go on the 7" colour screen • Enjoy 40GB to store 160 hours of video or 100 movies • DVD quality playback on TV • Easy docking to TV & one-time set-up • Photo wallet: transfer photos directly from your digital camera. View on TV • Play MPEG-4 files • High speed USB 2.0 connection to PC • Auto-sync with Windows Media Player® 10, play WMV & protected WMV files
So I still find Ipod better as compared to others on cost/value equation.
Not at all interested in this video enabled iPod. Everything plays video now. PSP plays video, my pocket PC plays video, CLIE plays video, Symbian phone plays video and even a portable digital wallet plays MPEG-4 videos now. There is absolutely nothing special with this gadget. What I hate with these players is that you have to convert your video, which is normally on DVD, to their format, a process painstakingly slow and not always rewarding. It normally takes 2 hours or something to rip a DVD and why watch that on a 7 inch screen after all this hard work? Apple’s H264 is even worst. Quicktime Pro’s H264 has the slowest video conversion, probably even slower then MPEG-2 compression. The DVD plugin has to be purchased separately too. Wonder if it is the default format with iPod Video.
Although the new video-enabled iPod looks like it will be a hit, I can't really see myself watching videos on it for an extended period of time, whether it be on a plane or at home. I'll stick with watching movies, videos, etc. on the PC. I currently have the iPod shuffle, and it's pretty much all I need....although I could be suaded to "upgrade" to the nano.
Its an english video so the monitaries will be in £ sterling (pounds) so just double them for
dollars. Its more to do with the evolution of technology and the effects on jobs however, like i
said specific to the uk with a bit of patriotic stuff about us in the 1900 but definately worth a
watch!!! edit* turns out there are multiple versions: US Version UK Version ....
Many people have been disappointed with the Zune- Microsoft's attempt at developing an iPod
killer media playing machine. I don't know too much about media players, but you would think
that if it has wifi capabilities, it should be able to go online. Well, the MS Zune lets you preview
other people's music, which you would then have to buy. I guess that the idea has some merit,
but come on? I digress. Does anyone think that the Zune will outsell the ipod this holiday season?
Some people seem to think so. With a price tag of $100 in some popular electroni....
QUOTE Imagine if you will, you have an iPod. That wasn’t too hard now was it? Now imagine
if your friend has one too and has some music you really want. The problem is you’ll have to
take your iPod to their PC connect it and transfer files onto your iPod. What potentially could go
wrong is if you end up syncing it to that PC by mistake, you’ll lose all your data. Now
imagine you’re hiking though the hills and are nowhere next to a PC, particularly your friends
PC. A company called miShare has developed a tool for just such quandaries. It....
iPod Touch QUOTE The iPod touch is an iPod portable media player designed and
marketed by Apple Inc. The device, which features a multi-touch interface, was unveiled to the
general public on September 5, 2007 as part of an event dubbed "The Beat Goes On", - an event which
featured the introduction of Cover Flow to the iPod line. The iPod touch uses 8 or 16 GB of flash
memory, costing US$299 and US$399 respectively. It also has Wi-Fi and includes Safari,
Apple's web browser. The iPod touch is the first generation of the iPod line to inc....
Nikola Tesla was one extraordinary man. The city of Buffalo was once his play ground for his ideas.
But due to many undocumented feuds with Edison (yes the very one) Tesla's contribution to
electricity world went less than well notice... that is until now. Tesla worked on transmitting
mass volts across the distance without the aid of clumsy wires. Let's face it, the power poles
and loosely hung black wires across your block are just an eye sore. But Tesla's methods were
quickly overshadowed by Edison's quick and easy solution--run wire grids to provide e....
Yeah the iPod is way overrated in my opinion. You might consider other players which may or may not
better suit your needs as a consumer. There are some gangsta media players out there, this one in
my opinion is way better than the iPod video /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P"

Microsoft to launch Zune! QUOTE After trying for years to compete with the iPod through an
array of partners, Microsoft confirmed Friday that it plans to directly go after Apple Computer with
its own rival, Zune. Confirming weeks of rumors, Microsoft said it will launch music software and
players under the Zune brand, though the software maker left plenty unsaid in its confirmation.
"Today we confirmed a new music and entertainment project called Zune," Chris Stephenson, a general
manager of marketing for the software maker, said in a statement. "Under the Zu....
well, here is the picture and a short article I found: here, here! it is said to have wi-fi
capabilities, so that you can download music without having a computer... you can download it right
from the device! it is set to launch sometime before christmas of this year. it is called the
'iPod killer', but, you never know, they may fail... i suppose you can use that term to any
mp3 player/company trying to be as successful as apple. the new iPod nano will also be debuting
sometime before christmas, sometime in the fourth quarter it is believed. This ....
Well first and foremost, I'll say this: I'm an iPod man. I love iPods, I have two of them in
fact, and I've done a lot of things with them like hacking them to play doom, and some other
cool stuff. 30GB is quite a bit for an mp3 player, let alone the 60GB version. So there's also
room for not only your music, photos, and videos, but your other files, because you can use it as
sort of like a flash drive. So in short, I can't get enough of my iPods. But recently I heard of
Microsoft coming out with their Mp3 player. Even though not many details have bee....
An experiement was done by nasa recently which resulted to moon soil turining into oxygen. This is
huge deal, this could confirm that when our little precious world dies we can still survive somehow
and not be extinct. Now your all probobly wondering how they did this. A lens focused a beam on sun
light on to a moon rock or soil untill the focused beam of light reach 2500C and after that point
most of the substance had turned into oxygen. pretty cool i say. Now just try that with mars and we
will know for sure that we wont become instinct. hope this interests you guys. p....
Has anyone else purchased this what could be perfect music player? I know somebody who purchased one
the day they came out and a few weeks later the screen was bad so he couldn't see what he was
doing. He still could use it but couldn't see what it was saying on the screen. The person did
take very very good care of it and rarely took it out of its protective case. So has anyone else
purchased one of these? If so have you had good luck with them or do the screens go bad for you?....

if some of you have not heard already, there is a linux for the ipod now. it allows you to a lot
more with your ipod. you can play vidoes on any ipod. like the nano. you can even run the first
person shooter called iDoom on it. linux does it again, putting commercial technology to shame.
whats nice you can swich to the normal apple firmware anytime you want. if you got an ipod try this,
its really easy to install. it will actually make your ipod worth for what you paid for it. just go
to www.ipodlinux.org hope this interests some people....
Not sure if this is the right forum, but I didn't see anywhere else for it... Ok, my girlfriend
got a 4 GB iPod Nano about a month ago. She had about 100 songs on it and one day they just
disappeared. Her normal PC won't recognize that she has the iPod plugged in, and her
stepdad's laptop will recognize it... But after she transfers all the songs, and she unplugs the
iPod from the laptop, she loses all of her songs again... She talked to an apple guy, but they said
she needed to do a system restore on it, but they didn't tell her how... And she can't ....
The neew ipod. I think that the ipod is a good invention but what is the point in making it so that
you can watch vidio's. Someones bound to get run over watching a vidio because they wont be
looking where there going so they will walk on to the road and get run over. Im perrfectly happy
with my mp3 even though the other day i cracked the screen on it so i cant really see anything but
its still working. But you know the little clicker thing on them that allows you to change the songs
and move around, well thats kind of broke because most of the time it dosen't wo....

hi friends, Apple has released a new version of Ipod. Actually it replaces the Ipod mini in the
ipod series. It is called the Ipod Nano. It is actually a slim ipod, 1.6 x 3.5 x .27 in size and
weighs 1.5 ounces approx 43 grams. It includes a color display and capability to view images and
slideshows... The battery life has also been extended. Chek out the detailed comparison chart at
the apple website... Cheers. ....

This morning I was going to listen to some music, so I got my iPod, turned it on, and it reset (I
hadn't had it plugged in for a while). When I got to the music, it would go through half of a
song, then skip to the next. After doing this a couple times, it would just skip entire songs.
It'd skip six or seven, then do half of one, then skip six or seven more. Later I looked on the
internet for some ideas, so eventually I tried resetting it again, as instructed. This worked for a
little bit, but then it started skipping over songs again. I reset again, and it lost....
I have just got a new Ipod mini and they really do rock.........holding over 1000 mp3's at one
time, you can search and listen to all you favorite albums on the move with ease. The mini ipod is
small and easy to use (must have a pc) i got mine for £129.99 from argos which i thought wasnt a bad
price for a mp3 player of that storage, the stoarge is 4gb, enought to fit all you albums on it. Why
go for sum cheap 128mb mp3 player when you can buy a mp3 player with a hard drive in it?
