You are really vernerable only if you keep your modem on 24/7 AND your computer on 24/7. It also helps to use a more security concious operating system (Windows 2000 / XP, Mac OS, Linux). But on the topic, AOL's security tools are not worth having if you also need to have the clunky AOL software on your computer. My recomendation: ZoneAlarm firewall (free personal edition, still plenty of features) and eTrust Easy AntiVirus($30 a year; well worth it).

don't get me started but im sorry you have:P I have enough complaints about AOL. First of all I used to have AOL for about 3 years and it WAS the worst internet provider I had! The thing is so slow I could go to the bathroom and come back and the page would still be loading, I also here they load up your pc with hidden spyware/adware that can only be removed by reformatting your pc. AOL is a HUGE scam, they cost 22 dollars for DIAL-UP!!My internet provider I have now costs half of much. I pay about 15 bucks a month for SBC Yahoo! DSL and it is the best internet provider I have ever had, its fast and doesn't ever mess up. I have been through several internet providers and I have had aol 7.0 and it was aweful. If you type in google "AOL sucks" you will get enough pages comming up about people saying how much aol sucks. I highly recommend to NOT get aol and get something else, if you want dialup get netzero or something just make sure its not AOL. I have been wishing that aol would go out of business but still millions of users use it, which I don't see why.
