| | I personally preffer the amd chips as they give you much better performance when it comes to games and that is the main thing i use my pc for. The amd's are also alot cheeper for a equvilent chip performance. Some of the new Intels are good aswell but they are way over priced !! |

I am currently using an Intel but it is an old Pentium 3, so when I look at buying a new computer, I want to get the most for my money. Many shops sell AMD computer chips for a heck of a lot cheaper than there Intel equivalent. The AMD seem to be cheaper and so I think that they will be the most popular here, many people prefer dual core computers now and AMD are definetly cheaper than the Intel.

I have used an AMD processor in my last 3 computers, as they seem to run faster for the money, and are more reliable than their Intel counterparts. Most people who choose Intel normally choose them for laptops or becuase they are bundled with the PC. Most people who build their own PCs seem to use AMD chips.

I always get amd... I find they are better and have less problems. Cause I have had issues with intel's in the past before. That caused me to not really like them. Also, I just find overall amd's are better for gaming, performance, and my daily uses

I'm using an AMD cpu. I used to use Intels exclusively, but a friend persuaded me to switch over. Intels while being more expensive really didn't offer me much more that the amd cpu could not fulfill. I suppose the biggest temptation to switch back then was the price, but now I'm noticing a bit superior performance in some of my multimedia applicaitons and games.

I used to use pentiums back in the 90s because they were the best thing available. In 2000 i got an AMD duron and i was amazed by its performance. Right now, my desktop uses an Amd athlon cpu. I have a 3.4 ghz Amd ahtlon 64 in my laptop as well. 2 weeks ago i got a new laptop, with a Pentium M processor (1.8 ghz). Speed wise, the Amd athlonx 64 laptop (same amount of ram) kicks the pentium's *arse*. But battery wise, my Penitum M(obile) lasts almost twice as long (both laptops have brand new batteries so thats not the issue). I think that if you want power you definetely need to go AMD. I havent seen AMD's mobile cpu in action, but the Pentium M is pretty awesome too considering how low the power consumption on it is.

I've got both AMD and Intel. I say those are good in a way or another. Intel is alot more hotter than AMD. Intel uses more power than AMD too. In terms of processing, Intel seems to fair in better position.. It's hard to rate between both processors because both had it's own pros and cons. If there's a choice for dual processors, I'd have both for their pros.

AMD at the current time would have to be better for most purposes, simply because of the price/performance ratio, as well as temperatures and power consumption. Dual-core Intels lose out to AMD X2's in just about everything (ie similar price point CPU match ups), except Photoshop, and I think there are similar results with the single cores, with Intel only having an advantage in some multimedia applications, whilst gaming and general usage tends to go to AMD. In the next generation of chips this may change though, the Conroe chip coming out from Intel looks very promising (when initially compared to the s939 AMD chips out now), and the next generation of AMD CPU's - the AM2's are said to only utilise DDR2 RAM, whilst "so far" only offering little in performance gain (though this is somewhat speculation).

Yeah.. People believe that its good to have amd when it comes to games.. but the one thing bad with amd is that its processor gets exhausted / hot very soon..if you are living in kind of warm place , it disturbs because it gives a lot of noice too I like intel processors very much , centrino in laptops and pentium in desktops... I always look into both. You don't buy a new processor that often and when I do I always want the one which does the job I require. Currently I am using a Intel but my last two processors have been AMD.

QUOTE(harad @ Jul 1 2006, 07:57 PM) go away man amd has already beaten intel in terms in overall price / quality / performance ratio! damn those people, if you don't know - don't say it! it's like saying "Intel is always better and i don't give a f*ck if it's slower and more expensive than AMD." conroe may change many things, but we can't say intel is better than amd, that's just unfair... ever heard of opteron man??? amd doesn't make server cpu's??? itanium 2 the best server processor????? what did you smoke that day people if you're so opiniated don't talk, because it ain't even funny... amd doesn't make server cpu's hahahaha... No I say the Itanium 2 server processor is better because it actually is a true 64 bit processor. The AMD 64 sitting in your computer right now is actually only a 44 bit CPU. The Itanium proved that a real 64 bit processor could be made, and by the way Intel did make the first 64 bit processor, AMD just m,ade the first windows compatible one because it was only 44 bit instead of 64. So yes a 64 bit processor is definitly better than a 44. And if AMD is so much better than Intel how come mainstream merchants like HP, Dell, and Compaq use Intel? And the whole reason people post here is because they have an opinion and obviously you just said Intel sucks in all forms because AMD is better so why not follow your own advice?

I have one AMD & 1 Intel Pentium Machine, I check the purformance of AMD Machine with same configuration of Intel Machines and found AMD Faster for graphics works and in Installation and in Gaming and in Processing of different softwares. When i opend several softwares on AMD And Intel Both Machines, than found Slowest purformance of Intel Processor, it looks like a Hang-up PC. So i preferred AMD among Intel

AMD processors are cheaper than Intel's while performance is very similar so that's why many people choose them. But I have three computers with Intel CPUs and I've never had any troubles with them.

Intel Targets 32-core Processors In 2010.
- Intel Develops Processors with 32 Cores (2)
I've found an interesting article about new Intel CPU for servers. QUOTE The processor
code-named Gulftown will have “eight processing nodes” with four cores on each one, according to TG
Daily web-site, which may mean that the chip will consist of several physical dice. Every die will
sport four processing engines, 3MB unified level-three cache, while every core will have 512KB L2
cache. The dice will be connected to each other using “a ring architecture” interconnect technology.

amazing!!!!, also Amd said that making fastest processors is becoming pretty
trivial, BUT the problem is: Where the hell they are going to put so many transistors? And the heat

going to put them splitted, two blocks, each one have 2 cores ( 2 * 2 = 4) And the h...

that will emphasize the chipmaker's shift away from its core PC business into consumer products.

surrounding the company's name. The phrase "Leap ahead" will supplant "Intel inside," which
helped bring the company into the public awareness during the PC boom of the 1990s. The new Yonah

Apple Expected To Change To Intel

It appears that Apple plans to use Intel chips instead of PowerPC chips in its new computers. This
could prove to be a very risky move by the company since all the programs and software would have to
be changed to work with the new computers using Intel and those left with the old PowerPC apples are
not going to be very happy. It's going to be interesting to see how the hardcore Mac users are
going to react to this move by Apple and many are probably going to leave Apple for good. I am
just glad I am not a Mac user or else this move would prove to be a very big h...
