I use Intel Pentium 4 630 and I have ran some analysis of the processor comparing it with some AMD processors. There are a lot of things you should consider before you say that Intel or AMD is better. 1. you should consider the power consumption and heat dissipation of the processor. 2. you should consider the processors arithmetic (calculations per second) performance. 3. the multi-media capabilities of the processor should also be put into consideration too. 4. Apart from the above mentioned issues, the cache memory of the processor should also be put into consideration. I understand that most Intel processors come with more L2 cache memories that their AMD counterparts but the AMDs are still competing with the Intels irrespective of that downside. Well, in my own review, I think that the Intel processors are better than the AMD processors. Download and run Everest Ultimate Engineer Edition or Sisoftware Sandra XI and use it to check the performance of your processor against a particular rated processor. xboxrulz, judging from the benchmarking results of sisoftware sandra, my pentium 4 630+ out-performed AMD Athlon XP by far in all the benchmarks. it was comparing with some of the higher AMD like the lower FX series processors, so I think that you are wrong there.

When it comes to on die cache for processors Intel and AMD actually have the same amount. Intel doesn't literally have more on board cache than AMD it's just marketed a different way. for the Core 2 Duo processors Intel markets it at 2MB of L2 Cache where as AMD just markets theirs at 2 x 1MB. I guess if you look at the fact that Intel's L2 cache is all shared between the two CPU's then it has more. But Intel and AMD processors both do different things better. In raw performance Intel has the crown right now and if you say otherwise then you don't really know much about Modern Processors. The Core 2 Duo CPU's dominate because their core architecture is designed so much better than AMD's Athlon X2. But if you look at efficiency AMD has Intel beat. Because AMD has had an integrated Memory controller ( aka built-in northbridge ) on their processors since the start of the Athlon 64 line. Both makers are very good. Intel CPU's are definitly better overclockers since they can handle higher temps and higher clock speeds. I would pick Intel right now because AMD has just been falling behind recently. But that probably means they have something in the works the company hasn't released to the public yet.

For a standard desktop computer, like one for the kids, just to browse the internet, word process and play basic games, AMD wins hands down: same processing power, half the price. For games, the Athlon FX is pretty fast, and can probably match most of the Intel Extreme editions as well, for a reduced cost as well.....so whilst the most expensive extreme edition may beat the AMD, it is only just: and it costs alot more for that tiny bit: so much so, it is barely worth it. As for everything inbetween, the arguement above is long enough.... However, AMD does not completely own the market: In laptops, the Core 2 Duo, by Intel is by far the best on the market, and nothing AMD have produced so far can even come close for efficiency and power: the Turion is still a long way off. What should prove interesting though is how the quad-core battle resolves itself, since AMD and Intel have used two completely different architectures for their new processors (As for server processors, the Xeon has been used so much, AMD never really stand a chance)

AMD rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had the opportunity to check the X2 series of the Athlon line and I haven´t seen any Intel getting close to it´s cost/benefit!!! The number of operations it achieves is stunning! And the 3D Now tech is something to be noted!! If any of you read this and is looking for a new processor you should consider this one! All u need is an accordingly power supply and a good cooler!! Believe me! It comes from a person that started with a TRS80!!! Regards!

Now that I am 5 weeks into my computer hardware class I can say that depending on your tastes of computers; including name brand hardware and software. I would say it would a matter of preference; this is because of the Intel has been leading the hardware business for a long time until AMD brought out it's athlon processors, then AMD was becoming more popular especially on the fact that their hardware was a lot cheaper then Intel and could do just as much at lower MHz. Howver, Intel came back with a vengeance with the Core 2 Duo processor and reproclaimed it's title as Processor King. Right now AMD best hardware has yet to meet or beat Core 2 Duo in terms of raw power, but rest assured most likely they have something that could meet or beat C2D. Although both processors and motherboards can be over clocked to the extreme, AMD processors are used more for gaming machines like Alienware computers for instance use the AMD processors, intel is used more primarily for business and heavy multimedia production because of what it can handle for it's price range. Of course there are other factors that separate the two including the form factor, chip sets and various other hardware. In early 2004-2005 the BTX form factor was supposed to replace the again ATX form factor (been out since 1995), and since the ATX form factor has been standard for over 10 years, not many people were going to switch over to BTX because of the costs to replace the hardware and towers. Since Intel was the producer of the BTX this help AMD a lot because many people and business didn't take to the new change, of course Intel stopped producing the BTX form factor in 2006, but other companies are still selling BTX hardware for the BTX machine. with the chip sets its a metter of preference will your building a custom computer from scratch, since you want the processor and motherboard to match the chipset that is being used for optimal performance. Of course though Intel and AMD both have a third opponent Nvidia, they are coming up fast and furious with computer hardware that rival both of them. All in all though it is a matter of preference and the question you have to ask yourselves is How much am I willing to pay for a good set of hardware? and is it what I need for the computer that I am making?

AMD was always the better choice for gaming, but Intels Core 2 Duo easily beat out and AMD there is currently.

I would go for Intel, because nvidia really works proffesinally with intel, AMD is trash but with good FSB, and intel specs are only until 1066FSB, thats good for something, and intel is cheap, but got to say, AMD sucks for gaming, AMD mostly doesnt work for both video cards, especially the FX-60 its the same sh*t as the other 1.8 ghz amd athlon 64 and athlon xp, their all the same. But intel actually brings more speed AND makes more processes at the same time, when your encrypting a cd, and your playing a game at the same time, the cpu takes half, on each, its called Hyper Threading technology, Man... io love computers, But last thing b4 i go, Intel ROCKS ! xD

In a technological idea, Intel is made for kind of both gaming and office use, AMD is just a waste of money and good for games, But AMD is good for gaming tounrmants, tournaments at the moment rather get sponsored by Intel than AMd because Intel is getting more money. That's the only reason AMD is not better, but AMD Surely doesnt understand how to input drivers, and etc, AMD has the fewest problems more than Intel , ====== This is my Opinion========

off. Itanium, Xeon, Woodcrest and Opteron Itanium introduced after ten years in 2001, with no
64-bit software to run and its crappy performance for 32-bit software is already cost a lot to
Intel. AMD took the advantage and with its Opteron chip in 2003 which ran both 32-bit and 64-bit
