Money is not really a problem, but I want a STABLE system for extreme gaming. At this very moment, I got 1000-2000 euro to spend. My current system is a P4 2400 mhz, 512 RDram @ 1024 mhz, 120 GB & 160 GB HD @ 7200 rpm. As a soundcard I got a soundblaster live with a 2.1 speaker system. My graphics card is a radeon 9700 pro. I also got a laptop wich is around the same configuration, but I'm using thisone as a server, connected through LAN with the other. In about 2 months i'd like to get one of the best gaming systems around. I'm also planning to mod it with some neon lights and water cooling. Now what will be the best.. upgrading my current pentium or buying a new one? If so, AMD or INTEL ? I'm gonna have watercooling wich means overheating won't be such a problem, and I'm not planning to overclock it too hard anyway. I'm gonna get me a 5.1 audigy 2 card (not sure yet) and a radeon X800 XT (or pro). Would it be best to upgrade or get me a new pentium, or an AMD ? remenber.. this pc is for X-treme GAMING only, there won't be ANYTHING else on it, since i got this laptop for it.

Two POints: 1. It sounds to me like the PC you already have is completley sufficinet for running practically any game eveer made anyway, so why the upgrade. 2.Go for AMD, because I use a 64 bit AMD processor and Coutner Strike runs like a dream, I dont think the manufacturer really makes a huge difference, but 64 bit would be benifit, and AMD are cheap (even money s apparently not a problem...)

Yeah apparently the AMD 64 bit proc. would be a great addition to your system IMO.

I prefer Intel because it quite stable with ordinary software. Mostly people trust Intel product greather than AMD. I use to work with AMD for while. Not impressive about CPU temperature.

Not impressive about CPU temperature. Not impressed with cpu temp? my amd runs cooler than my pentium3/4 systems and well they use stock coolers so. This is just my case, maybe most amds run hotter than intels but in my experience my amd's have run cooler by a few degress even under load but all in all they roughly run the same temp with about a 1-3 degree diffrence. Get a PCI Express system and a 700 dolar GeForce 6800 Ultra don't have anything better to spend your money on? (taking a look at your specs) Give me the money instead! And the CPU thingy was discussed here before, search for the thread. Basically both have their pros and cons, if you find one for a bargain get it! And let us know too

Get AMD if you want your computer to be fast. I have 2 computers at home, one Pentium 2.4 GHz and an AMD 1800 xp. I find that the AMD (1.5 GHz) even though its slower than the Pentium it runs much faster. So definitely I recommend AMD for efficiency. This reason has made me hate Pentium.

QUOTE(karlo @ Dec 11 2004, 10:12 PM) Why is it the second biggest cpu manufacturer? why not the first? and what's the first? Intel is the largest (not the oldest though, AMD and Intel were founded in the same year). If you ask why, I dunno... prolly because they founded the x86 architecture and cooperated with IBM to make the PC architecture mainstream. (That was a long time ago ) and until the Athlon came out like 5 years ago AMD cpus were no match. Well, some diehard k6-3 users claim otherwise, but I don't think so, the pentium 2 and 3 still kicked amd's ass. However the Athlon is a complete redesign, especially its floating point unit is way ahead of intel's. Intel cpus just add onto previous versions, the only major revolution for intel was from a 486 to a Pentium. After that they only decreased the size, played around with the bus widths and the cache and added extra instructions but nothing completely revolutionary. Your latest p4 today is still virtually the same cpu as the pentium from 1996.

Intel is the largest (and oldest existing I believe) CPU manufacturer, followed by AMD If you plan to overclock the cpu then while both brands are equally disputed at best for overclocking by different people some versions are better to overclock then others, simply research what ones are good to overclock before you buy the processor (when overclocking you also have to deal with heat and voltages) Generally I would agree Athlons run hotter then Pentium's but not by a large amount and if you are going to have a good cooling system in place then I don't see the extra heat being a issue and yes they will keep running, if you have no cooling this would be band, it would cook your cpu and possibly damage the motherboard, again with proper cooling it is not a problem Whenever I look at a comparison chart Athlons always seem to perform better then Athlon in most or all tasks and this includes X's which actual speed is less the Pentium's actual speed For stability it doesn't matter what you choose though Athlon may be a bit more stable when over clocked I believe If you have the extra money then get 64 but I don't believe you will see any difference in performance in games for now just because its 64 BIT For price Athlon is always cheaper then Intel My conclusion is make your choice on the actual chip you buy, not just the brand, do your homework, also good cpu is helped by a good motherboard and ram In the end I know nothing

Hard time for Intel to make bussiness decisions (2) QUOTE SAN FRANCISCO (Business 2.0 Magazine) - Much to Wall Street's dismay, Intel is

off. Itanium, Xeon, Woodcrest and Opteron Itanium introduced after ten years in 2001, with no
64-bit software to run and its crappy performance for 32-bit software is already cost a lot to
Intel. AMD took the advantage and with its Opteron chip in 2003 which ran both 32-bit and 64-bit
software. Intel’s effort to adapt a 32-bit chip to run 64-bit software also (Xeon) is no good....

The Future Of Computer's Games
(12) Hello, this topic could be in other subforums, but i want to talk about the hardware that is needed
to stay in the line of new games, I know that with a computer we can do more thinks like a console

So, thinking in the cost of building a game ready computer, I think that at the moment (thinking
that 64bit software is some far) is better to buy a console to play games, like a PS2 or the
expected PS3, and a budget computer to other things, this way is cheaper, and i think....
