It seems that none of you use paint. I'll have to be a bit different here and confess that i'm one of the people in the small minority that still does use it. I use it for the simple reason being that I don't really do a lot of imaging, I only ever take a screenshot or two or want to load something up really quick. Alternative To Ms Paint - lol a really good Alternative To Ms Paint

This can be for those who don't have photoshop, works for me since ps takes forever to load on my pc.
Main Functionalities :
- Management of layers (as Photoshop or TheGimp)
- Chronological account of executed acts with the ability of come back
- Draw tools (Polygon, lines, curve, text...)
- Filters and effects (radial blur, sepia, red eyes deleting...)
- Management of the layer's opacity

In spite of its layers' management, there isn't PSD or XCF formats in view ! Of course Paint.NET uses basic formats (PNG, BMP, JPEG, GIF, TIFF, TGA) but to save your layers, you must use the .PND format, the format peculiar to this software.
Take care, Paint.NET need this installation of Microsoft .NET Framework which you can download in this page.

It's not the only option. There is also GIMP, although I don't know which of them is best, since I am personally biased towards Photoshop (I don't foresee myself switching in the near future, either).

Nice sharing grimmy,

Now i am downloading this software, i am a regular and intermediate user of ADOBE photoshop 7.0, and using almost all features of Photoshop. In the websote it is showing a lot of features.............hope i will switch to this software for small graphics with respect to ADOBE Photoshop 7.0 which is a very heavy software.

Alternative to Paint? uAHUAHAU... That's funny.. I didn't know people would still use this crap... uHAhAUUAH... Adobe Photoshop and Corel Draw Photopaint is far away from MS Paint... I wouldn't get an alternative for it... Please, if you want to do some favor for yourself, download photoshop at least, it's easy to use...

Do people use Paint as a design tool? I always thought it was something for 5 year olds or old age pensionsers to play with.

Photofiltre is another good alternative to MS Paint. It may not be capable of layers, but it has some features that are similar to PhotoShop. And it loads fast, too. You can also get plug-ins for it.

I've seen it used more as a tool teenagers use to deface images of people they hate tongue.gif It sounds quite good for a free program. Might be quite useful for "lesser" graphics.

I still prefer Paint Shop Pro, far more features and it's only 85 quid.

Paint.Net is good if you are also willing to download a hefty .NET FrameWork application from Microsoft. It is after all 25MB and on a 56k modem, it takes quite a lot of from one's time. Besides Paint.Net may have a lot of cool effects for ready-made photos. But for creating graphics, I still find it easier to manipulate the mouse with the GIMP.

For work I have photshop & illustrator on my G5 mac, I was considering getting photoshop on here to (i use my pc for the net) but after playing with paint.net for half an hour I think ill keep that instead. For a free program it looks pretty good.

I've Used this Software Paint.Net. It has lots of feature than MS Paint but it cannot stand in par with Photoshop or the GiMP for Graphics Designing. Free alternative for those with slow systems.

Also, Paint must be the simplest program to use. I can't really see why you would want an alternative. I know Paint isn't the best, but I find that once you get used to it, it's great and you don't really need anything better. However, I suppose that if you're an imager and that's what you do professionally, I'd guess you'd want to go for a program like Photoshop that allows you to add effects to your images.

I haven't tried the alternative Paint program and don't really have a need to, but if I ever do need an alternative to Paint, then I will come back to this thread and download that program smile.gif

Call me odd, but as far as I'm concerned nothing can replace MS Paint. Paint is fast, on all Windows computers and is great for little things.

I have Photoshop, but I still like to use paint for some basic things.
