Hi This is a starter about AFS - study abroad. QUOTE AFS is a leader in intercultural learning and offers international exchange programs in over 50 countries around the world through independent, not-for-profit AFS organizations, each with a network of volunteers, a professionally staffed office, and headed up by a volunteer board. AFS International provides worldwide leadership, coordination, support, quality control and development of AFS organizations and programs. - www.afs.org AFS is today actually in 50 countries, and they help over 11 000 students study abroad each year. QUOTE AFS will turn diversity into an asset instead of a source of conflict. It is our belief that people change the world by taking responsibility in their local community aided by a wider global perspective. - AFS vision If you want to read about all of the programs they have to offer, click here. The one I am thinking about doing myself is to take one year of volunteering anywhere south in the world. This has allways been a dream of mine and it fascinates me. Here comes some information on this program: QUOTE As a volunteer you can help with many things including promoting AFS in the local community and schools by finding and interviewing students and families, serving as a contact person for an AFS student, organizing fundraising events, and arranging activities for AFS students. Volunteering also offers opportunities for leadership roles at the local, national and international levels Now thats the end of the starter. I hope all of you that have been abroad with AFS share your experiences here, and that this post will be full of AFS. Good luck, have fun.

Study Finds Risks For Beta Blockers With Surgery
(0) People given a blood pressure drug known as a beta blocker to reduce heart risks before surgery were
one-third more likely to die within a month and had double the risk of stroke compared with those
given a dummy pill, Canadian researchers said on Monday. Imagine, they actually decided to have a
clinical trial of this use of the beta blocker drugs instead of just assuming that it would have a
given beneficial effect. Imagine if they did that with all the drugs. A LOT of medical assumptions
would get shattered like glass. http://www.executivemindshare.com/?page=cm.......
Study Abroad Or Go To College In A Foreign Country
Which to choose? (3) Hello there, Someday when I become an adult, I'd love to move to France. College would be my
first opportunity to travel to this beautiful country, but I'm unsure of which option to pick.
I could pick an American college and choose to study abroad for a semester in France or I could
attend a French college. European colleges are cheaper than American colleges, so that is a plus;
however, it costs a lot of money to commute between America and France during holidays and
vacations. Does anyone here have a suggestion on which would be a better choice for realist....

Independent Study?
(4) Is independent study that good of a thing? During the 4 years in HS I saved a lot of time to myself
by doing Geometry, Algebra I, ALgebra II, and elementary functions (precalculus) as an independent
study, thus making more space for more advanced courses like Calculus (which I took my sophomore
year) and statistics (I have this year). But is it that good of a thing? Yes, you do get the
knowledge, etc., if you are a hard worker, but it doesn't go anywhere onto your college
transcript, or anything to benefit you in the future. Currently I am enrolled in 4 AP (advanced ....

Job Vs Studies
To study or to work? (13) Atleast in the country where i hail from that is India, i can say this without a shadow of doubt
that here studies have become more of a minimum Qualification rather than doing something special TO
take an example, people all over the world prefer to do an MBA at a later stage of life when they
have an experience enough to boost their managerial skills. But here it is like, MBA has been
downtrodden to a minimum Qualification as in, once you are done with Graduation, you will have to go
for an MBA or else you will be left lurking with low salary and an average job. True ....

How To Study Knowledge And Remember It Long Term
(5) Ok so many of us study on and on for hours especially at the last minute to try and remember things
for the test. Most of the time this doesn't work and we don't remember half of what we
studied. Well in history class we were talking about study tools and what not and he brought up
something I've never known and would like to share. So basically our brains are computers,
they have a short term and long term memory. When we study, we put the knowledge in our short term
memory and for most people after 15 minutes or so our short term is full. Well in orde....
Study: Tumor Risk From Cell Phones
A real issue, or just myths (14) Researchers at the Swedish National Institute for Working Life issued a report this week disputing
two earlier studies that claimed cell phone use has no correlation to increased brain tumor risk.
The Swedish study found that long-term mobile phone exposure could raise the chance of developing
cancer. In January, a four-year study performed by the London-based Institute of Cancer Research
and three British universities found that talking on a cell phone had no effect on tumor rates. That
research included 966 people with glioma brain tumors and 1,716 healthy respondents....
