im not sure either if im an addict i mean i play games online like for at least 4 hours a day except when im working or at school and even when im at school i still talk to my friends about them and i feel as though its just part of my life which i cant get away from i tried quiting but i had to much spare time and soon went back to it. mostly when playing its really like your actually in the game and as i do want to get really good at it and be better than others and in time make money out of it. but still im so addicted its like whenever im doing nothing i just think i should play to finish one of my goals in the game staying up late in the night playing , but if you think about it what are you really achieving. but still im still playing my online rpg and wont quit for a while so im still addicted

I know that Im not addicted to games. I am the type of person who gets bored really quickly. I use my trap17 account to run a website about making games, so obviously I am quite experienced in game making, but I have never been able to stick to one game. I get bored and usually give up. Thats not a good habbit for a person who creates games, but I think its good for a person who plays them. Getting addicted to anything is bad. You should be able to have the self control to stop something when ever you want. That doesn't mean you have to stop playing 100 hours a day, it just means you should be able to stop. I wouldnt like to be addicted to online games, and spend all my time on the computer.

Let us not forget that ANY addiction, whether due to certain substances (nicotine, alcohol, drugs) or other (gaming, gambling, even food) triggers certain receptors in the brain.
There are obviously (and literally) 1000s of those receptors, all with their own triggering sources, but it basically boils down to exactly the same.
If it is not the substance that triggers a reaction, then it is the kick people get from gambling, or playing games, or whatever.
I went through something similar years ago, when I had bought my first computer (the good old Commodore 64, bless its woolen socks).
My wife and me tried to play a game, obviously we were rubbish at it, being new computer owners, but after a while, things got a bit better, we started getting near going into a next level, and that is where the triggering came in. We desperately wanted to see what this next level would be like, how your 'enemies' would change, how much more difficult it would be, so we decided to have one more go.
Until all of a sudden we looked at the clock which showed us it was 4 o'clock in the morning.
This went on for a good while, but, just like nicotine makes your brain tell you yopu need that next cigarette, similarly the game made our brain tell us we wanted to find out what happened next (against all common sense, of course).
What it basically comes down to is that any addiction is triggered via certain hormones and brain channels, so, a gambler most probably needs as much help as an alcoholic.

Well I have to agree that games are addictive. I usually avoid them coz they are so addictive xd.gif

I once spent the whole night and half the day playing World of Warcraft biggrin.gif It hurt my back, hands and my eyes. I find games addictive because once I begin a game I have to finish it or else I don't sleep. It is a complete psychological and emotional attachment and I guess the excitement makes a person get addicted even more.

Yes.

It's been proven and seems pretty clear that addiction to video games is an escapist addiction and indicates that the person doesn't want to deal with issues that are going on in their life.

I think the usual behavior changes apply, sleeping disorders, anger, short temper, depression, manic episodes, social withdraw. eating disorders and etc.

Depends on who you define addiction. I think many of us can handle a few hours a day devoted to games, TV, sports, hobbies, or etc.

I think that addiction to video games is a reality and there are some cases of people that don't even go out just to stay the whole day playing. I have friends that live for consoles and there's nothing they like more that spent whole weekends playing videogames, which I think it's not very healthy. Of course it's not an addiction like cigarettes or drugs, because there isn't anything physical inside your organism telling you that you want more. It's a kind of more subtle suggestion like the one in television. There are also lots of people addicted to the tube, aren't they?

Anyway I can't blame people for not wanting to deal with reality... this world sucks and probably we all need our own addiction, more or less "damaging". huh.gif

I doubt anyone can be addicted to video game as it doesn't directly interact with any part of your brain. That means there is a fine difference from a drug addiction and game addiction. Game addiction is simply an extreme form of habit. Thats it. The media blows things out of proportion when they say games are addictive. They are in a sense "addictive" but not in a same level as drugs.

The player of a game, unlike a drug addict has total control over his/her own body, and can think correctly without being intoxicated in anyway. So that means the player can, if they wish to, stop playing at anytime without being hindered by the media they are watching.

I have to add I was actually more addicted to Online MMOs but my parents pretty much put be on the right path by taking the computer plug and also revealing to me reality and how slowly I was deteriorating as my friends all slowly succeeded while I was failing. So yes everyone please limit your amount of time you play your games, you will know you are addicted when you start to neglect simple things like wanting to go to the bathroom or meeting a neighbor outside or friend/partner.

Once I ever got to know how to use a computer and found out many things that a computer can do I was

Is Caffeine Really A Drug? (31)
As many of you may have heard, caffeine can be considered a drug to some. What are your opinions on
this subject? Obviously, like any drug, caffeine can affect some, while others can be unaffected.
For example, I drink soda, usually two cans a day. Now, I have gone sometimes a week or two without
soda though, clearly stating it has no control over me, but I have heard it can affect others in
strange ways. For some caffeine consumers, if they go too long with it, they will get headaches,
nausea, etc. But I rarely see this is people. This is most people's defens....
