Activating Sata Drive With Windows - bought new drive can't get it working

I just bought a Samsung SpinPoint 250 GB SATA hard drive last night from Micro Center. The windows installation disk will not detect it. I have a Abit VT-7 mobo, which does support SATA. I used the included driver floppy to boot with the installation disk, but it refuses to recgonize it. I'm going to try to flash the BIOS, but I wanted to know if ya'll had any other ideas.
Notice from BuffaloHELP:
Topic title is very important. Try naming it with more effort.
Is the hard drive detected in the bios? Are all the cables connected properly? What OS do you have? If you have raid'ed hard drives and plugged this into the same onboard controller, you also might have some issues there.
Very important this to note is: does the BIOS recognize this hard drive? Is the drive powered? These are stupid questions, but you'd be amazed how often this is the solution to problems...
Give us some more info, what's your OS version (I guess it's Win XP), what other drives you have plugged in...
I use Serial ATA as well, a 200 and a 300 gig.. they wont be automatically detected, or at least they arent on my CMOS. What I do is enter the bios, go to Intergrated Periphials (sp?) then IDE devices, then you must set the Serial ATA option at the bottom.. its defaulted to 'Disable' which is why it wont work.. select 'Auto' or something else and it should work..
sorry I didn't post earlier, I've been trying to get my old hard drive back up and running. I found out that I had a faulty mobo, but I just decided to take that SATA hard drive back, and try to fix the old one.
Just installed a new SATA drive on my little brothers system. Was quite confused at first because the drive showed up in bios, and windows blipped about new hardware, but it would not show up at "my computer".
Here is how I got it working: Right click my computer on the desktop, choose manage (Might be some other, synonumous, word. I don't use an english version of windows and this is my own translation). You get a window with lots of options and tools. In the tree-structure to the left, somewhere around the bottom, is Disk Manager (Again, own translation). Click Disk Manager and all the disks on your system should show up in the window to the right. You may have to scroll down to see all drives. Find the new drive and choose format.
I formated it to one big partition, NTFS, and all of a sudden windows stops acting like a spoiled child and the drive shows up in My Computer.
Weird, I've never had to do this before. Anyone knows why it's acting like this? It was a WD 500GB SATA drive btw. Maybe it was too big for windows to handle it plug'and'play style?
I just bought that disk (seagate SATA 500G) half year ago and found it stop working randomly,
resulting the whole system to be dead. BTW, I am using Win XP. I tried to use seatool, provied by
seagate, to scan and repair the error, the program stop at the half of the process. I even can't
format entirely, just do quick format. I don't know what I can do and have been pissed off for a
few days. hope some people have this kind of experience and give me any idea. I don't want to
loss my 500G data storeage. thanks in advance.....
For some strange reason My sound card doesn't seem play sound on my 5.1 properly. I've a
dual boot system. on XP its running properly. So I figure this is an issue with Vista only. My
sound card is recognized as Realtek HD audio. *(My motherboad is XFX 650i Ultra) Now whenever a
jack on the back-panel is unplugged or plugged in it shows and alert and gives an option window
under XP where I can select what I've put. It somewhat allows me to configure any pin to be a
input or output. However I could not find this same option in Vista. I generally don....
Need your HELP! Today I had to reinstall my operating system and low and behold my A:/ drive
is not working. I have replace the drive and still nothing. My Hard drive and CD rom are showing up
when I go into the BIOS, but are also not reading. I downloaded a Fresh copy of Dos 6.22 which is

board to the A Drive, and still Nothing. This is really bugging me. The PC is a Home Brew by the

My new venture shop's computer started to act up. I purchased low-end CompaQ desktop featuring
Windows Vista Home with DVDRW drive by TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H653L SCSI CdRom device (this description
is from Windows directly). I have allowed to install DVD authoring and copying program on this
machine. The machine was running just finely and *ahem* duplicating DVD's for shop's
purpose. The DVDs did not have copyright notice and it was for piercing tutorials (so FBI get off my

I bought a 250gig SATA (Serial Ata) thinking I was getting an IDE. It was an error on my part, and I
can't return i because I bought it on sale. Stupid me. I was thinking of buying a SATA -> IDE
converter, runs $35-$50 canadian. But I was also thinking, perhaps someone would like to
trade for a IDE drive if they have a SATA. IF anyone has an IDE harddrive 180GB +... I would love to
trade. If we can make it possible. Hitachi 250GB Serial ATA HD 7200/8MB/S-ATA-II-300 In package
(no cables), however I opened the package. It has been sitting in my drawer f....

I hadn't been able to play the Sims 2, and I figured out it was because my video card wasn't
supported. So I went out and picked up a cheap GeForce FX 5200 ($50) and installed it in my
computer. Well as soon as I turned my computer on, everything was normal. But I noticed the
resolution was huge when it got to my desktop and when I went into Display Properties, it was the
only resolution setting there. So I figured I'd install the video card drivers that came on the
software CD. After that it prompted me to restart my computer, and when I did, everything....

Hi guys, I have a IDE Hard drive i think. It says ATA/100 or something like that. I want to add
another hard drive to my computer so i have two. I have a one of those flat cables that connects
the hard drive to the Motherboard and it has one more port coming off to plug in one more hard drive

get an SATA cable and plug it into my ATA/100 or should i just get another ATA/100 hard drive?

I attempted to install a software pkg. Part of the install process required an upgrade to this dll,
so I accepted the new dll. The install fails to function, however, and this dll seems to be messing
up a bunch of other software on the Laptop. So the question is : How do I revert back to the old
OLEAUT32.DLL??? System is Windows 98se on a compaq 1230....
Hey everyone, I have one more question. I have just purchased a windows media PC with the ability of
recording TV shows. Now, out of curiousity, is there a possible wireless setup that would enable me
to view the prerecorded shows in a different room? In other words, without the use of wires, is
there some kind of imitated gateway or router sort of thing that'll 'transfer' the
prerecorded show which originates from my computer in one room to another computer ( or simply a
television ) in another room? If there is no such thing, is there an alternate way to vi....

At least I think thats what the problem is. Anyway i'll start at the beginning. I purchased a
Samsung writemaster DVD burner and installed it with the relavent drivers off the samsung website.
Immediately after that blue screen errors started appearing on startup. The error message was this:
BAD_POOL_CALLER 0x000000c2 (0x00000007, 0x00000cd4, 0x11111111, 0x818CAC48) However this would only
occur occasionally and as the DVD burner worked fine when XP did load sucessfully I decided I could
live with it... A problem then occured where I couldn't access the admi....
Here is the situation: I have a 120Gb Maxtor Hard Drive with Win Xp pro and ALL my stuff on it. It
basicaly wont boot into windows, Nor will it show up on another pc when you have it as a slave
drive, in BIOS, its there, but you cant access it in windows :S. I know all my files are still there
because I used a program called KillDisk and that showed me that all my files are still there. I
want to get all my files off there and stored safely onto another hard drive. I have tried
repairing Windows with the disk, and have tried almost everything... Is there any other way ....
(Sorry if I posted in the wrong place but I wasn't sure where to put this, move the topic if in
wrong place, thanks). I have this random problem with my pc, and it randomly happened. I turned off
my computer normally at night and came back the next day. I tried turning on the computer and it
came up with something saying like windows could not open and came up with choices. Either I start
the comp in safe mode, safe mode with prompt, with the setting that last worked best, or just start
normally. None of them work! It comes up with the loading xp thing, (the log....
Well, as you can see from the title I have a very big problem which is really bugging me. I
currently possess the trust 400 v2 wireless tablet; before when i bought it it worked fully after
installing al the software which i was meant to - the drivers etc and all fllowing the instruction
manual. That was a while back, then i reformatted my pc and the tablet was left unused for a while
and the battery was taken out. Now, some months later i insert a new battery and install the whole
thing again according to the manual - it worked seamlessly for some hours, pressure and....
It has become common problem in my office. Some floppies do not open in Windows XP and it shows
error, Cyclic Redundancy check error, what does it mean ? If I use the same floppy on another
computer having windows '98 it opens all the files and sometimes some of the files. The same
floppy when formated with windows XP starts working, which were showing the error earlier.....
While setting up my new machine last night... I stumbled upon a feature of Windows I have missed for
years. Right click on the desktop. Properties > Appearance > Effects... Check the box for "Use the
following method to smooth edges of screen fonts" and change it from "Standard" to "Clear Type"
Press OK Press Apply The text looks much crisper on my machine now. I run Windows at 1600x1200 on a
21" Trinitron. Webpages, icon text, everything seems much better than with "standard" smooth edges.
Check it out. You may really like it.....
there were major problems with my computer (reasons don't matter) and i couldn't reformat it
the right way... (by popping in the xp disk). so i put it in another computer as a secondary drive
in a different computer, and it was successful. those of you who are experienced with OEM disks
are probably expecting the horrors i am about to relate to you... as anyone with a speck of
knowledge about hardware knows, there is no way to COMPLETELY erase a hard drive, no matter which
way you reformat it. so, when i booted up my computer again, it gave me a message "NTLD....
Hi guys, anyone can tell me the diference in performance between a SATA and ATA drive? i mean with
the a same system configuration cause im for update my pc and maybe i can replace one of my HD i can
get 10% more of speed? more? thanks.....
Hi there! I recently re-installed windows on my 250 gb WD SATA hard drive. I had a 50 gb
windows partition and the rest for files. First thing that happened was my system partition
wouldn't boot and eventually chkdsk said that the mbr was unrecoverable. A friend recommended
that i use a seperate parallel hard drive to load windows and then convert the disk to dynamic in
disk management. I did this, but the computer crashed and now windows won't even load with the
SATA hard drive connected. The BIOS sees the SATA hdd, but that's as far as I can get. I tri....
