Windows Explorer Randomly Crashing

newms
Okay, I've had Vista for a few months now but just recently my Windows Explorer has been having problems.

It says "Windows Explorer has stopped working" and then I click the option restart the program.

I usually have 2 - 5 Explorer windows open and when I click restart the program it closes all of my windows and opens up My Documents.

I usually get this error one or two times a day but I'm not doing anything wrong.

Is this error only happening to me or has it happened to anyone else.

Thanks.

I'm talking about Windows Explorer not Internet Explorer. I mean like My Documents, My Computer... stuff like that.

Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer are working on the same basic. If you try to type c: in Internet Explorer, it will work as Windows Explorer. And also, if you try to type www.trap17.com in Windows Explorer address bar, it will work as Internet Explorer.

About your Windows Explorer problem: My laptop came with Windows Vista and I didn't like Vista because of lots of reasons. And setup Windows XP SP2 instead.
Maybe you should remove Windows Vista and use Windows XP. I think Windows XP is the best operating system Microsoft has ever built even Vista exists.

Lets keep the I hate vista and the switch to XP posts to 0 and give actual support here.

Anyway, I did a few google searches and of course it is a coming problem two of the solutions would be to install Vista SP 1 and see if that fixes the problem, if you haven't already installed it. If you have it installed I check out this Microsoft document and download the patch they provide.

This is sometimes caused by Spyware, or a malicious virus infecting explorer.exe.

lay down the porn downloads, and porn sites. ph34r.gif You wont get any Spyware if you don't visit. tongue.gif (Only messing. - Don't take this personal. wink.gif )

Make sure you don't visit any suspicious weblinks, on Google, and/or any other sites.

Sites with warez downloads often have active threats these days.

I recommend using AVG for your browser protection although AVG does cause slow computer performance.

Always scan your Computer twice a week, to make sure you have nothing on your computer that is a threat to your system.

use CCleaner to scan for Registry issues, and get them fixed asap.

Registry entries are often making your computer's performance slow as well.

I will make a few Computer Tutorials soon in the Computer section. wink.gif

I hope this helps. smile.gif

I defragmented my computer then ran a virus scan and it seems to have fixed the problem.

I have windows ultimate and also have downloaded SP1. I scan my computer with Norton on a regular basis as well as using ccleaner.  I still have a problem with windows explorer crashing randomly.  The task bar will simply stop responding and I get the message that windows explorer has stopped and needs to be restarted. I've scanned my computer for spyware and virus' but I don't seem to have any. I have been able to fix the problem.  I deeply regreat buying a computer that has vista on it.  I had no problems with vista until after I downloaded SP1.

I hate to have to ask, but why is Windows Explorer being dumb? Just the other night I copied 12GB

Hi all, I'm sure some of you gave a thought to this, why does Vista always show the login

always login to the computer" or something like that. That way if you used the same user 99% of the
time and wanted to keep a second user as say an administrator you could do so by setting that
option. If you ever wanted to switch to the "hidden" user you could do so with Log Off or Switch
