| | C'mon face it, video games are a complete waste of your time! Every time you turn on your console you should be asking yourself "Is there something better I should be doing with my time... like reading a good book... or watching a good movie... or flirting with a beautiful girl? Do I get anything out of this, does this make me a better person?" |

I hear you on that man. But I usually play video games after I get home and it is around 2am. I have already studied and read all my books. I have usually spent over 12 hours with my significant other, and I'm probably really trying to bore myself to sleep ^^ But I do see what you mean. I do get pissed at those people who spend their entire lives playing games and not really accomplishing anything and then *BLEEP* about their lives.

Games drives the modern world. Video games triggers your brain to think critically. It is a way to train your strategic part of the brain without something boring like chess. Video game is now essential for kids and teenagers. Face it, if you take away your son's XBOX forever after he played it for 2 months (especially HALO 2), he'll melt or even take away his internet and all that stuff. Side note: it also depends on his interests.

Well, of course if you take away something that a kid has been obsessively playing then s/he's going to be pissed, you can't say that just about video games. And not all video games (in fact most) do not make you think critically. They are not essential for kids and teenagers!! Some games do, of course, for example puzzle games. However, many are just 'go in and shoot all the bad things while trying not to die', with possibly SOME thinking involved about what to do for that particular situation (ie Halo). But are you really going to face that situation in real life? Most likely not (unless you are in space and come across a huge ring with lots of life on it and the convenant trying to use it as a weapon to destroy life in the galaxy so that the swarm or whatever they're called don't have any food and will die...). Anyway, videogames distract people from real life. True, this is not always a bad thing. It can be argued from both sides.

Ok i agree with you, And i dont agree with you. Video games do take up alot of time. Youll turn on your system and be like im only going to play for like 15 mins. and yet you are sitting there for about 3 hours. so yeah there are other things you could be doing but alot of people dont relize the reality of it. Ok end i dissagre with you because, Video games are a learning experience. If your job was to create and program Video Games i bet you would love it. And it takes a long time to do that also. and You learn from video games Belive it or not , You do. So thats my say on this. ( even though its coming from a Hardcore Socom 2 player )

Gee... I was hoping for a little controversy here but it looks as if we all agree that, to say the least, gaming is not the true meaning of life, no matter how hard Sony is trying to convince us that this is the case. I mean "life is short , play more"... c'mon, gimme a break! If this was your last day on earth, how would you spend it? Certainly not playing any video games, I hope. I would like to add one thing to the discussion, though. There is now a whole generation of teenagers who grow up shooting each other online on a daily basis. We know this can affect dramatically an "odd minority" among them - remember Columbine - but what about the vast majority, what about your teenage friends and mine? In other words, do you think violent game culture can have any behavioural effect on teenagers who enjoy a normal upbringing?

CODE to alot of people, videogames bring joy. so what would they rather do, read a book and be bored, or play videogames and have a good time?xD Well, perhaps they should take some time to figure out why they are more happy playing games than living in the real world. Games are a waste of time if you spend hours at end paying them. Games should just be games and not an alternate way of living, as we see they are becoming more and more these days. There is something seriously wrong in this modern society.

Video games are fun. If you are younger, And get good grades in school, have a bunch of good friends, maybe even a boy/girl friend, then whats the big deal? I really, really do not see what the big deal about video games is. I get A's in school, see my best friends every day, and kinda, has a girlfriend. Yet I still manage to squeeze in my 60 hours of CS.

Video games may be a waste of time, but when you're really young, and have no chance of driving a car and doing stuff in the real life, then play cideogames. Most of the people 21 and over that I know that play videogames usually don't play them all the time, but ony whenit doesn't interfere with something like work or anything like that.

I think many gamers would be surprised to find out how much books relate to games. Someone can ''have a good time'' reading or playing video games. I do both and love both.

Video Games Are A Complete Waste Of Time, Face It!
I don't believe that virtual violence has something to do with real violence. The worst killers in the world (guys who have killed 10+ people),know little or nothing about vgs.

there are better things to do with life and so little time...
Video Games Are A Complete Waste Of Time, Face It!
As many, I was born in the 80s and spent all my childhood playing vgs: Nintendo, SuperNintendo and then PC games (Starcraft and AOE ).
How do I feel about it? terrible. If I could go all the way back to the start, I'd rather invest my time with art. Dancing, drawing, theater, playing piano, guitar, etc. Even sports (football, soccer, boxing, swiming). Life is too f.U.C.K.I.and.G. Short to spend it in front of a tv set, and youth, oh hell! youth is a breeze.
In my opinion, vgs lead you astray from the real beautiful and important things in the world.
VG Interaction is completely passive. You are not creating anything, you are just there discovering and learning things made by others.
In short, gaming is like gambling.

For some people, video games can be fine cause they have good lives, hanging with friends and all, but now and days kids start playing games real young, and as the years go by they get stuck to it more and more til eventually they realize it was a complete waste of their time, and missed out on the funner things in life. I believe everyone should have a fun childhood and have the fun experiences of partying with friends, being with a beautiful girl from school, and go to sleep only waiting to get up in the morning to find something new to do, where as with video games the schedule is wake up, game, take a s***, game, eat, game, sleep, and start over. With a life like that they can get fat, lazy, and be afraid of women therefor becoming afraid of women. Trust me I've seen this, and he is miserable. I don't hate video games but kids need a mentor or loved one to keep them off there games and get them to play with there friends.

i agree they are a waste of time and you will most likely end up looking touch with reality if you play video games like you should in most aka addictevely for hours up to the am you begin to gain weight, because face it, even if its wii you are no excersizing your *bottom* is sitting down and eating fast food. because do not tell me you take a break from video games to make yourself a very delicious green salad with no dressing haha dont take this the wrong way but i used to be an addict too final fantasy and space channel 5 and the simms all the way but i dont play anym, ore and i think the compiter is more productive id rather be looking for ways to improve my life listen to music and talking to others than living in lala video game life not worth it unless you are a paid and respected PROGESSIONAL GAMER

Outdoor Drinking Games May Face A Ban
A local issue in my town, but my vent conserning it (2) Just recently in my town an issue has come up that has my whole campus in a fluster. I was reading
my colleges news paper and right on the front page, first article, in big bold letters, "OUTDOOR
DRINKING GAMES MAY FACE A BAN" Ok, being a local to my town for the past 9 years and I am now also
a student, I have realized how biased this "News Paper" actually is. To begin with, the reason this
ban has been brought up because there is over 75 Beer Pong Tables outside on peoples porches (it is
currently fall and its cold so there where a lot more). However, the article mad....
My Rant On Video Formats And Compatibility
(11) Ok, well recently i bought a DVD Burner, and it works fine all to say, but i never knew that the DVD
Roms had to be a certian format (DVD+R or DVD-R)so i had to buy the correct format of the roms, then
i didn't know that the video that i wanted to burn to the DVD had to be a special format (.avi,
.mpeg, etc...) so now i have to go through this whole conversion process, then i have to make sure
that the format of the video is compatible with the DVD player that i want to play it on.. im like
argh! what a nightmare! SO my ideal it, to scrap all video formats and come ....

Those Who Think Video Games Lead To Violence
It really makes me mad... (30) I really hate all of the people that think video games train kids to kill. In the colombine school
shootings, they said that the kids played video games, which is why they committed the crime.
I'm not saying that they are wrong or right, but if you look at the statistics, as video game
sales increase at a substancial rate, the number of violent crimes are starting to decrease. I want
to put a story on my school's website about people's reactions to this. I would be
interisted for some feedback about this from all of you out there. I figured that we have a pre....
Video Game Addicts
go outside.. (9) This is to those of you who spend countless hours staying inside playing video games. Not to those
who you who indulge your time sparingly.. Video games were made to cure boredom. Not to take time

in the warm sun. I miss the days when we'd play Tecmo Superbowl for ten minutes then go outside
and play real football for two hours. Now, most people are lazy and do it the other way around, play
real football for fifteen minutes, start sweating then go inside and play PS2....
