Which Is Top Video Editor

Im intrested in editing videos and currently am trying windows movie maker and was wondering if anyone could tell me if thats the best free one or if theres any better out there, plus do the paid video editors give you a lot more than the free ones or is it just interface upgrades cheers.

I really enjoy "Sony Vegas" I run versian 7 and it's really easy. Some learning to do from WMM but its not bad. There are MUCH POWERFULL but nothing worthwild unless your directing a full feature lenghth blockbuster movie..

Also, No, Paid ones are not just interface upgrades. They include TONS new features and many more ways of doing things.

Forget about the movie maker. Try sony vegas, pinnacle or I think your best choice would be Adobe Premiere! My mom is a director and she works on it and I've also tried it. You don't get the most unimaginable effects or overflows from it but if you wanna create a movie without stupid effects (I'm not saying that effects are stupid but there are some really crappy and noobish ones) it's the best choice. And it's the most accurate proggram to work with. It's a proffesional proggram. You can edit your movie in any way you want (your movies sound too). It's not hard to learn and you will be satisfied when you start working on it (at least I was! )

cheers im really looking in to movie editing right now so will defanatly check out your suggestions, im not to worried about challanging programs as im used to learning new software applications.

Well If you are just looking for basic free video editors I won't be able to help you much. I use avid and Final cut Pro. Both are quite expensive, but I recommend both if you are going for something professional. They both can do what the other one does, but for somethings final cut doesn't have hotkeys for and sometimes takes a little longer. Avid is nice because I can edit much faster on it but I don't like the interface as much.

For the free ones, I've used windows movie maker and it is terrible. If you have a mac I guess I'd suggest iMovie, but that doesn't have layers or too many other features that are essential when editing certain projects.

I learnt today of a program called Cinelerra. As I only just found out about it, I haven't had a chance to look at it, but it seems to come with a pretty impressive feature list. It's totally free and supposedly very professional. You've got nothing to lose trying it out, so give it a go and see if you like it.

will def look into that Cinelerra one and iv heard that avid one is supposed to be good they used to have a free version I think but recently they took it down.

For me, the most complete video editor is adobe premiere pro, i have been using it for quite some time now, since i was hired to do a job with some kind of professional videos of a wedding, i guess i made a pretty good video presentation for the them since the smile on their face was quite expressive, at least to me!

Adobe premiere pro is very easy to use, its features/functions are really easy to understand, explore and learn just by yourself, you do not need a teacher, but then, not everyone has the same capacities and/or gitf to work with a computer, in/with any software/program/tool.

If you do want to start editing your amatour/professional videos, adobe premiere pro is the best tool in my opinion.

Sony Vegas and Adobe Premier Pro are good softwares for video editing and mastering.

Final Cut Pro 6, Avid are for Professional work like the Movies where you need to add quite a large number of effects and that requires high level professionalism.

Pinnacle Studio is another software that is realively cheap compared to other softwares and can produce good results and can do most of the work. Pinnacle is a fairly easy to use program that features drag and drop editing and is designed for consumers who want to edit their home video.

The best Free Video editing software was Avid FreeDV, it no longer available. You can try it by getting it from any software archives or from friends.
