Thanks for the tut. But quick question, why do you need to lock and un-lock it for? It is for a sercurity reason or something?

Set-up Your Registered Domain Name - at GoDaddy.com

ill
Alright, here is how you set-up your registered domain name with Trap17.

I bought http://www.zroenergy.net at http://www.godaddy.com so I know how it works first hand. smile.gif

First go to http://www.godaddy.com

Then go to My Account, and login.

Then go to Manage Domains under the Domain section of the page you get after logging in.

Now the domain you bought will be listed. If there is a lock next to it, click on your domain name. On the right of the next page under "Domain Details" click unlock domain.

After your domain is successfully unlocked. Click on the domain again to bring up the "Domain Details."

Then under "Nameservers Summary" set the nameservers to

NS1.TRAP17.COM
NS2.TRAP17.COM

Now lock your domain and log out of http://www.godaddy.com

Now login to the Control Panel of your site. Found at http://username.trap17.com/cpanel

Under "Site Management Tools" Click on "Parked Domains."

Add the domain name you bought from http://www.godaddy.com to your list of domain names. If you did it right, your domain will appear under "Current Parked Domains."

You're finished! However it will take some amount of time for the domain to propogate before it appears on your computer. It may take 30 minutes or up to 2 days for it to appear, which depends on your ISP's cache.

technically trap17 can host ANY domain as long as you have access to your domain name's nameservers. All you have to do is change them to ns1.trap17.com and ns2.trap17.com. Simple.

.tk uses frames to forward the page to your site, it's very simple and you don't have to fill in the name servers or anything

free .tk domains are simply a URL forwarding service. You don't have access to nameservers unless you goto the paid option. I find free .tk domains are really slow anyway (I don't know about paid). There is also the uni.cc option which is basically the same service. The old uni.cc service allowed you to change nameservers but not anymore.

They say in the future, uni.cc will let you change it, but now, you can use www.cjb.net

ok so i just bought www.tcclan.org for my clan site. And did all the steps...is it because of the ISP needs to refresh that when i enter the domain it takes/refers to www.tc-clan.trap17.com how do i get it to always show www.tcclan.org and the various /forums etc. on the .org and not just show trap17 ?

Mind you this is happening right after I set it up...maybe i need to wait.

yes it will take a while before it shows up because your isp hasn't "refreshed" the web yet

for each page to show up using your domain name just link to each page relatively

for example
CODE
<a href="links.php">Links</a>

instead of
CODE
<a href="http://www.tc-clan.trap17.com/links.php">Links</a>

Just as a note, if you want to add email names to your domain name, do it through your control panel on your website, not through godaddy.com!
