First of all this topic is maybe in wrong section but i didnt know where to start it. I am building now my own website but i hear that lot of people have problems to send people to theit website. Does anyone have some suggestions for me to get more traffic to my website?

Well, what kind of site is it? Depending on your content you could do what yopu are doing here, and that is posting in forums. Yes I understand that it would be a lot of registrating, but it will pay off in the end. (A way around all the emails is to make an email account for that purpose sepcifically)
Plus you could always ask other sites like your to advertise for you, by putting a banner up on their site, and you would do the same thing in return.
There are other ways as well, free search engine submission, word of mouth, etc.

Like moolkye said it would be good to join other forums that are related to your website and advertise there if they have an advertisement section but if not then you could always ask to affiliate with them. They will give you a small banner to but on your site and you can give them one of your small banners to put on their site. If you have friends interested in your website have them do the same and if they have friends like that have them do the same as well and a chain can get started. It is a lot of hard work but once you get going the growing won't stop.
Be active in every online forum that you are a member to. Then add signature to your posts linking to your site. It is better if you will be a member of a forum or group related to your websites. Join yahoogroups or other services like that. Update your websites regulary, making sure there are new contents every time a visitor checks your website. Referral is one of the best thing to do to increase your traffic. tell a close frien to tell his or her friends regarding your website.
Let's not put the cart before the horse. First you have to build your website and then make sure it has content on it worth reading and coming back to.
Ok, make sure it attracts visitors. No blinking ads, animated ads, popups and popunders, etc.
Add some free services such as crosswords, etc. You can find most of these services on Google. Free web content is a good way to start. Make sure they are ad free. A small text ad is okay, nothing bright and flashing though.
Ensure your site has good navigation. Don't make users click 10 links down to find pieces of info.
Include a feedback form. Users can give suggestions to your site.
Make non-animated ads so that other websites can display YOUR ad on thier pages.
Advertise (but don't spam) on Usenet, Google Groups, forums, etc. Make sure your message gets through to people in a nice and firm manner.
Sign up for Traffic Exchanges that don't utilize pop-unders or popups. These can be helpful sometimes.
Try asking other popular websites to put a link of your site in their site. Get on a search engine. Or you could always just hope that peolpe will come.Not! You cannot just make a website and expect people to come. When you make your site it doesn't even exsist. For further help please give me a message^_^
I get most of my traffic from Topsites, affliating people's sites, and commenting on their site blogs. But mostly from Topsites, if you get people to vote, you can get about 40 people to look at your site. But this is only because my site is those personal ones where we have visitor content and stuff, I'm not sure if your site is about business or something. If it's a game site, joining a bunch of topsites may help increase your traffic but then again this is only a suggestion, you don't have to try if you don't want to.
Okay here is the problem. My Site in general. Yes I already know it has a few coding problems, but
that is not the real problem. the problem is I feel as I am not getting the hits I should get, or
members joing the forum. I have submitted to ever place that I can over the past year. Told all my
friends about it. Even and its bad but spammed it in yahoo chats, and nothing. I really like the
site and the weather. I really wish that I knew what I could do here. I have even gone as far as
looking into a dot com name, but really do not think that spending money is the rea....
My tenure with Yahoo's domain service is about to run out. They now want $35 a year! Prior to
this outrageous price increase they were charging around $10 a year, which I thought was kind of
pricey, but now they're into the stratosphere with their obscenely expensive fee. They better
not try blaming this on the orchestrated devaluation of United States currency (though I
wouldn't be surprised if they do). How they can triple their price and not expect a mass exodus
of customers is beyond me. I, for one, will not be re-enlisting. Any ideas out there on chea....

hey friends... I wish to create a small social networking site (as a part of my college project),
i want to create a site where people can log in , have their accounts ,send messages to friends and
a few more things if possible...basically i want to illustrate database management... It won't

My university is a complete residential university and is totally LAN connected through out the
campus and the hostels. Already many Intranet sites for services like forums, social networking,

Loads of people i know, who have very little HTML knowledge, use Piczo . And now, anyone with one
of these sites, think they have the best websites ever! All it usually is pictures and text randomly

I was wondering what kind of ways you guys promote your sites and how you try to generate traffic.
There are obviously the standard ways like submitting to search engines, free for all links,
reciprocal links, but is there something else? I read on another board, a guy created a screen
saver and uploaded it to free download sites. Because the download sites always have your URL and
you can also put your site in the screen saver itself, it is a good way to promote. Other ideas?....
