I live in Canada, and google always directs me to google ca. Actually, I don't think they know it from your ip address, but from a cookie. We all know that google has a 37 year cookie stored on your computer and records all your search terms and sites you went to from the google website. Do not worry! Delete your cookies and this won't happen (although it's not anything bad... just a small fact!)

Google checks where you are browsing from by checking your IP. Then if it has a page for your country you get redirected to that page. The cookie overrides the IP check as far as I know. So if you have a cookie for Germany and you browse from France, you'll get to the German site (or so I've been told, I haven't tested this myself). Anyway, you can set the language to any of the available no matter where you are. Try out Elmer Fudd, hacker or bork. They're funny There are lots of languages on the Preferences page, even Klingon.

There are times when Google redirects me to the local Google, I appreciate thier effort but most of the terms and sentences were literally translated as if they were making fun of our local language. I don't know how they came with those translations, but they are obviously grammatically wrong. :\

Google In Your Local Language
My job involves global travel all around the year. I've spent a lot of time in Japan recently. I don't know Japanese (can't read it anyway) but a lot of info is available on the 'net regarding railways etc. But when I want to search and I try pulling up google.Com, it always defaults to google.Jp even on my own laptop. I have IE8, Chrome, Opera, Firefox 3.0 & Safari. It is very irritating because not only the results but even the interface is in Nihongo

Fantastic for those who don't know english or know very small snippet of it and want the translation for some high vocab words. And funny for those who know english and when they see the literal translation of the language into english or vice-versa. It's funny for me But as google translate service is likely to be embeded in Orkut, then i can see it will solve lot of communication related problem. It should be embded in most of the services as well.

Google translation is really funny because I know a lot of french so when I try translating somthing all the words are messed up and everything! But on the serious side its a good translator if your doing a couple of words only, but using it for somthing big like a paragraph of sentance wouldnt be too wise. There are many translators on the web that ARE capable of doing long things but Google's version really just isnt one... maybe in the near future they will expand so we can use it more better. I like google video and maps there cool, just need to expand on their language feautres. Go Google.!

I live in Turkey. And when I type www . google.com in Internet Explorer and Firefox, www . google.com.tr comes. But I don't know why only in Opera it is only going to www . google.com. Searching from google.com and google.com.tr have a few differences. When I search in my language I am using google.com.tr for best results.

(8) Okay, i hate french, i have this horrible teacher who picks on me. she won't let me move down a
set and she treats me really unfairly. For example if somebody talks, she would tell them to stop,
if i talk i'd get a detention. Anyway translator is very good. I do every piece of homework
with it and my teacher think im trying hard. Ha, that shows her. The only problem is that it's
not all way write eg. If you type in watch you will come up as wrist watch instead of watching with
your eyes. Other than that its pretty good....
