The looks do not compete with Apple's. Quite frankly, people would rather get an Apple product anyway just because it's an Apple. Also, I'm sure that some people really like the fact that their Iphone is also their Ipod. The Google G1 will fail just like any other recent Iphone contender!

The G1 wont be able to compete with iPhone, the only reason it is even considered to be a competitor to the iPhone is because it has Google's new mobile operating system in it. People seem to think that anything Google does will succeed, but more often than not new Google services fail. Google checkout was supposed to compete with Paypal, it failed miserably. Google Video was supposed to compete with Youtube, it failed and Google bought Youtube. In fact other than the Google Search, GMail, and AdSense, few other Google services have made any significant splash in their respective areas. The few that have like FeedBurner and Google Analytics are acquired. The G1, and the Android OS, won't be making any headlines after a few months of hype unless Google comes up with some kind of innovative feature. Or at the very least, an impressive UI design and a creative marketing push.

For those who want to know the stats for the two phones in question G1 is smaller in size as compared to iphone both in terms of physical size as well as screen size. it measures 4.60 inches x 2.16 inches x 0.62 inch Although it has a qwerty keyboard but i phone's impressive multi touch gesture cant be competed by G1 One great thing in comparison with iphone is that it has expandable memory option. So there will not be any limits The music store is from Amazon store and the application store is from android market. The apps are open source Price wise it is about 20$ cheaper than the iphone but what about memory.. Iphone has a built in memory of 8 GB for a price increment of 20$ which can come as a micro SD card of 8 GB in 20$ for the G1. But for music freaks NO HEADPHONE JACK There are some good features like Creating ringtones from songs on the device. Managing your music from the device instead of from your computer. only time will tell if it is a value for money Effective price will be G1 = 1019$ for 2 yrs inc. 179$ outlay ; iPhone = 920 inc. 200$ outlay. Plus 20$ for memory.. Choice depends upon who you favour but sensible choice would be to wait untill competition heats up as these two biggies slash the prices...

I watched a demo on the G1 and supposedly the one thing that makes it really good (the Android operating system) can actually be used on other phone models, granted its not the easiest thing to do.
