| | Download the two programs Google Earth and the Microsoft Version (I couldn't find what they name it  )
If you have a look at the Macintosh Headquarters in America on Google you will see that the building is there but if you try to find it on the Microsoft version you will not have much luck as they have covered it over with a field.
The same is for Area 51. On the version that I saw Micosoft Covers It Up with Teal Boxes but Google once again shows all.
The third thing that I have noticed is that Google Earth shows all the Military Bases around the world but the Microsoft one covers them up.
I'll try and find examples for this, I haven't used the programs in a while. |

What do you mean the real thing? I think you mean more updated version. How cool would it be if it were live.  You can see car's moving, buildings being demolished, etc.

I'm still not sure what your point is, is it that Google Earth is better because it doesn't censor potential 'targets' excluding macintosh (obviously). It does seam abit odd that Microsoft would censor places by just putting something else over it, or is your point that Google should also censor sensitive areas? Anyway thanks for bringing this up, I'd check it out if I doidn't have super slow dial up.

Just 'cos Microsoft thinks hiding military bases is a good idea, doesn't really mean anything. Although Google Earth is going to get much more popularity now they know they have a better map... And your point about Super-slow dialup... we all feel that way. Dialup is so stupid!

I'm in support of M$ for the first time here. I don't think its right to expose secure areas to the public. It might get into the wrong hands and who knows what they might do with it. At the same time Google is hiding some of the military bases from countrie like US.

I saw Area 51 very clearly last night. Google Earth has much newer images, so as you would expect you see much more. I haven't treid looking up Area 51 on Microsoft's sites (MSN, Windows live Local, etc) but I'm sure that those areas are garbage on the MS sites, especially since they have plain old black and white photos.

Yes! you are absolutly right! Yesteday i was using Google Earth and i saw my Uncle parked car in canada! And i live in Sri Lanka! Microsoft's software don't even show any traffic! no offence Microsoft!

Microsoft's Mappoint is not Free. Buy A Copy of mappoint and u'll see the details in it. The online version is not that detailed.

the cool thing about the microsoft one, though, is they seem to zoom in much closer to places. I found the house I grew up in and could see things in the front yard. I also noticed that my grandmother needed to clean her pool.

I do doubt that Google would be allowed to show any ultra sensitive information. Any secrets wouldn't be revealed in time for an enemy to use such information anyway. If it were real-time it might.

I don't mind Google Earth blocking out those secret parts, I'm not planning to do anything with those spots anyway, so why would I bother checking it out? I'd much rather have it protected so that certain stupid people can't abuse this wonderful software.

Even though I don't agree with everything that is said in this particular forum, I do agree with some of the things that have been said. Yes, I do believe Google earth is better then Microsoft Earth, but don't understand how Microsoft earth does not show everything. If I am interperting this right, then why would you care if Microsoft Eath Covered Area 51? Or any Military bases as well. I don't think Microsoft Earth had any intensions of thinking their costomers were going to download their product just to look up those particular places. Give me a break! They're both good programs, so stop trying to put one down!

Its all very fine when you can see your uncles car or you can see your friends house on Google Earth. But imagine this scenario - some mischief makers see some military site in some country which are not protected. They see the site, plan how to attack it and do it. These sort of scenarios can happen and that is why censoring the content is very much necessary. The country that is shown should have the right to tell what cannot be displayed openly. After all, we give that for a human. If you show C. Diaz topless, you are thrown into jail with hefty fines. Why Diaz's body cannot be see by everybody. Why the fine ? Same is the case with countries. I think the countries should stand up and demand that their rights to the images of their countries be protected and serious action taken against those who dont follow it. Why two different rules - one for humans and one for nations  What say ?

Well, this is basicly what Google has been doing for ages and will keep doing in the far future, keeping the power to its user so they have full control of what they want to do, while Microsoft obviously wants to have a much more "Big Brother" like position if you get what I mean. I rather take Google's example because less control to the user is more control to the company, which is allways a bad thing in my humble opinion. I prefer Google tools like Google Earth and Google Talk much more that Microsofts Mappoint and MSN Messenger. I don't like mappoint because you have to buy it, which is something I won't be doing to a microsoft product ever

Google Earth
Area 51 (6) Well a while back there was a bunch of talk on area 51, and how it is a secret location and all
that. They say it contains aliens (I doubt that). They say all types of mumbo jumbo, I think its all
for show. I typed Are 51 in on the google earth and it zoomed in on it. Turns out Area 51 is just a
flight training sort of thing. So don't listen to the alien crap!!....
Google Earth On Sabayon
Google Earth works great in linux (0) I installed Sabayon linux from a dvd I got free with a magazine and guess what? It had Google Earth
preinstalled. And I was thinking that google was not supporting linux (with there being no gtalk or
picasa).Google earth actually worked better in sabayon than in windows I don't know why.....

All of us must be knowing what a "wiki" is. Anyway it's a public repository of knowledge where
users are allowed to change/modify it as per their wish. For a better description you can go to
www.wikipedia.org. Back to wikimapia, it's a real wiki in the sense all the map
details(locations ofcourse) can be changed as per your wish.So you can just put a caption for " my

why isn't it listed as a sub-topic? (7) I just found myself in this area of the forums for the very first time in my stay here with
trap17... at least i think.... but i was supprized that one of the google services subfoums, that i
was sure to be there, wasnt there! Google sketchup. I don't know how popular it is yet, but
it's a free 3d modeling program by google. After modeling you can dump your models into google
earth (thats why i put this topic here), and share your buildings with the world! Unfortunatly
google sketchup seems to be mainly designed for google earth. There is no rendering, so yo....

I think this it pretty cool. (2) i was shown this by a friend and thought it was cool so i downloaded it, http://earth.google.com/
lets you see the world in a 3d image and zoom to any location in the world, it doesnt update its
like a 2 year old picture but its cool because you can zoom to like your house or school etc. and

Google earth (0) i find google earth the best mapping program ever because it shows everything in 3d and you can zoom
in and out right down to the last detail its amazing. This post is a good example of how to post

really cool thing (43) alright, the best thing is that it's free. You can see some people's houses, like in nyc,
but you can also see landmarks, big cities, landscapes, and it's all woven together really well.
I always like google's stuff You can eaven see forgen countries, and it streams all this info
