In a marketing tactic used primarily by spyware and adware companies, Google has begun bundling its Google Toolbar and Desktop Search software with the popular WinZip archive utility. The move comes as Google begins to expand its bundling effort with a number of leading software applications.
WinZip quietly updated its download executable last week, which now weighs in at close to 4MB with the added Google tools. Users are given the opportunity to opt out of installing the Google software on the first WinZip setup screen; by default the tools are installed.
Google Toolbar adds a number of features to Internet Explorer including pop-up blocking, spell checking and Web page translation. Google Desktop Search serves to replace the basic Windows search function with a full-featured utility that indexes e-mail, documents, media, Web history and chats for instant access.
Last month, Google signed a similar bundling deal with DVD software maker InterVideo. RealNetworks also began bundling Google Toolbar with version 10 of Real Player, which prompts users to install the toolbar on the software's first run.
Google did not respond by press time to inquires about whether such a distribution approach could be seen as questionable from a company that boasts its ability to "make money without doing evil."
However, Google has recently faced increased competition by search competitors Microsoft and Yahoo, which offer their own search and toolbar utilities. Microsoft recently launched the final version of its MSN Toolbar Suite with Windows Desktop Search that connects users with MSN services, while adding tabbed browsing capabilities to Internet Explorer.
Unlike its rivals, Google does not have the ability to push its search tools via established software products, such as Yahoo! Messenger and MSN Messenger, that are used daily by millions of consumers. Such a limitation may have prompted Google to seek out third parties, which already have pre-installation agreements with major PC manufacturers such as Dell.
But Google isn't the only company resorting to bundling. Yahoo recently inked a deal to offer its Yahoo! Toolbar with Macromedia Flash and Adobe's Acrobat Reader - both essential downloads for most computer users.
What you guys think?

it's really sucks.. so many bundling?just don't know what is their next steps.
I do appreciate that google is doing that but dear lord when will the toolbar just be used for links and searches instead of everything. Pretty soon the screen will be one big toolbar.
Well I hope they know that all this bundling isn't going to make us install their software. If I don't want it I'm not installing it. If I want it I'll download it myself. Good market stradegy though, pretty good idea (just annoying to me though).
This isnt really a tactic invented by google right? In the past big company's like microsoft added their toolbars and other stuff like that to programs as well right? MSNMSGR Plus also has a search bar built in... If you dont watch out when installing programs you'll probably have your entire Internet Explorer full of toolbars :\
This happened to me the other day, because our company sits behind a proxy server all the searches
done on google are coming from one IP address. Google picks up on this and assumes you're a bot
so it limits access by asking for you to type out letters given in an image (To prove you are not a
bot). This is quite a huge issue as it is affecting alot of companies. Check out this blog and see
how many customers Google is losing because of this.

Hi, I tried to install Google Chrome web browser on my Windows XP computer and faced the following
error each time: "Access to this application is restricted." Well! I do not exactly know where
this comes from but I guess that it is one of Google's racist issues. As I tried from my home
country Iran, some Google services like Google Code are not available due to bans that the company
has put on particular advanced services. Because the installer first comes from the sub-domain
code.google.com I think that the same cause also applies here. The question is if it ....
Well it seems Google is going ahead with service even though the huge security risks that are
involved in this program. Of course, they are well aware of the problems that come with this, but
even if they got military grade security on their servers, there is far to much risk having your
medical records floating around on the internet. However, its not like they have been circulating on
the net for years through computer databases and what not, and that really surprises me that
hospitals haven't been attack or if they have, they been keeping it hush hush for years. ....
Alright well I've got google notifier on my mac and it works great, so I decided to install it
on my windows partition as well. Well I am having problems with the windows version (Surprised?).
Anyway the problem is that it doesn't remember my username and password. The mac version stores
my account username and password in the mac keychain, but the windows version prompts me for my
account username and password every time I start up the computer . It completely defeats the
purpose of the notifier. If anyone knows how to have it store the username and passwo....
I think it would be sweet to have a Google operating system. I searched google for it, and all that
I could find was a bunch of people with the idea for them to make one. I think they'd be able
to make it run all the programs we have already for Windows, Linux, and Mac, and make it a lot
better. They could integrate it with the internet a lot better that other OS's. So, do you
think they should make one, or that they ever will?....
we all know about the Google's AdWords and AdSense Programes. The first one is the Google's
Ad service where the advertisers are charged only for the click on their ads. The later is the
Google's ad service in which affliates display Google AdWords ads in their websites and pages
and get revenue for each click made on the ads. Google Grants is a part of the Google's AdWords
Service targetted at the Non Profit NGOs and other related organizations. Google provides the
selected organizations free AdWords advertising on Google.com to raise awareness and ....

i read in the paper today that google bought out youtube.com this week for 1.65 billion dollars.

youtube, when googlevideo just started up not very long ago? let me know how you all feel about

QUOTE Google isn't serving web pages faster, its serving other people's versions of the

The mighty (and now public) juggernaut that is Google is emerging as the most formidable potential

even offer Web hosting yet. Let's look at the facts and see exactly why Google will defeat
Yahoo! in the Web hosting war. Why Will Google Launch a Web Hosting Product? Web hosting is a

I was just wondering if Trap 17 members would be interested in working on creating a new 'Google

with Trap 17 - you just need to have a web page that is crawled by Google. If your site isn't in
their database, then you can get it added here . Let me know your thoughts.....
