| | Reading Slashdot, some days ago, found an article about a simulation of the human brain called Blue Brain.
The interesting thing is, could we someday completly emulate the human intelligence?
What about feelings? sensations?
Is there a good software to generate and use Artificial Neural Networks? I know some of them but are dificult to use, like SNNS from Stutgart.

what can I say? wouldn't it be great to download your brain into a computer and live forever?

I think on another usage. Train a brain to upload to a person. Freaky, isn't it?

People keep messing with mother nature and mother natures is going to butt them in the behind. Not saying Im not a fan of technology(obviously I am) but I rather people spend time fixing problems we already have or the ones we created.

Artificial intelligence has always fascinated me. At first I read a lot of Asimov books but then I moved on to read up on Vernor Vinge. Vinge and some other scientists have theorized about a technological singularity. A very real point in the near future where computers will not only be as smart as humans, but smarter. The reason this is referred to as a technological singularity is that as soon as computers become smarter than humans, then computers begin building smarter computers, which in turn build smarter computers and everything gets out of control. I for one welcome our computer masters and promise to be a good slave J

There was a great television series made by the BBC called Cold Lazarus (directed and written (I think both) by Dennis Potter (who also made The Singing Detective)). Basically it's sometime in the future and a company has managed to keep the head or a person alive and are using his brain and watching all his memories. It's quite scary in the way that you really don't want anything like that happening to you.

Artificial Intelligence is what computer scientist all over the world are working upon right now. Especially organizations like NASA and all other related to robotics engineering are working a great deal on it. But do you think will it help mankind if a real human like robot is built with complete AI like a real human. Or will it create a disater like shown in hollywood flick IROBOT

The computers that we are using today are actually under the Artificial Inteligence. We can communicate with them though binary system (if I am not wrong, I don't know much about computer programmin) those zeros and ones. But the definition of AI is more complex now. it has something to do with Robots that think by themselves without human interference. AI would be very helpful to us, unless some weirdo would create something from it to conquer or destroy the world. I hope the terrorist can't acquire somthing big that could do an artificial intelegence to destroy us all.

General Discussion: Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Hi I am very new to Artificial Intelligence. I want to learn something different and I choose this field. But it confused me a lot. Now they are telling me to do a project on my own for completing my masters. I got no idea what to do. Is someone there to help me or give me suggestion. I need to finish my masters anyway so there is no going back. Cheers Preethi -reply by Preethi --- admin reply --- If you chosen it to be different, don't be afraid to learn it. You will grasp the concepts soon and you can deploy your projects yourself :) Don't give up. Keep Trying.

Gondero, don't use a cheesy science fiction movie like iRobot as a refence for ideas. In theory, maybe, but in practice, no. The world just doesn't work like that. And Wolves, a computer wouldn't have to have real emotions to give characters in a game emotion. It would simulate the emotion (by reacting to the character's actions in certain ways that we would percieve as emotion), but real emotion would be unnecessary (not to mention possibly impossible).

But ruling by simple facts is actually worse than ruling with emotions when it comes to humans really. Because a human ruling with emotion can be compassionate and be very lenient even if an offender does something multiple times. But with ruling by facts alone you could have someone put to death for commiting a semi minor crime. Take the move IRobot. I know it is bad to use a movie as a reference since all movies revolving around this subject are entirly fiction, but the idea remains in my mind when you said to rule by facts. The robots in that movie were kiling off humans because they were programmed to protect humans at all costs. They could think feel, everything but they were governed by factual data not really emotions. Then ending realization was that the central AI for all the robots was actually trying to protect the humans by killing them all off. This sounds contradictory but think about what do to our bodies by smoking, drug use, food, all the things bad we do, and especially to the environment. We humans kill ourselves and the robots were trying to protect from ourselves. That is the problem of ruling by facts with a computer because computers can only do what we tell them to do. And if we say rule by strict facts then that is what they do regardless of circumstances. You would need emotion to be any kind of lenient and AI with emotion is bad news.

QUOTE(Cerebral Stasis @ May 25 2006, 02:05 PM) Why create robots or computers with emotions? All we need is a program/computer that can think using reason and logic at a faster pace than we biological entities can. What would be the point of attempting to emulate emotions? It would only pose problems or, if nothing else, waste money. If one wants a dictator, one should use an emotionless computer that cannot be distracted by feelings that skew the facts. If one wants a friend, one can walk down the street and find one. There's no reason to attempt to create what already exists.
Yes, that was exactly what I was hinting at. Also, if this form of artificial inteligene were to exist, we should give it no physical abilities. Just in case that this would, in fact come to the conclusion that we are destroying ourselves, it couldn't harm us in any way. And yes, an emotionless form of AI is the best bet as it would decide our future based on facts and not feelings. AI with emotion would be great for the gaming industry, who wouldn't want to fight a bot that can actually get angry, scared or even surrender? It would bring a whole new revolution to the gaming world. But then, that is what makes me wonder. If we are killing something that can actually think, and feel emotion would that not mean it could feel to? Would that not mean that killing something in the game would almost relate to killing something in real life? It's such a blurry topic, as we humans are so complex. It's mind boggling to imagine to be able to create a real living entity to our world. I would never take part in this, however as I believe in god and I would like to leave life up to him.

One word IROBOT lol, no seriously, AI infact is used in a game, but it is programmed to do it. AI scripting is indeed difficult but INDEMAND! If your job was to make scripts for poeple and code AI's, im sure you will be making alot of money lol. not no 5 dollars and hour lol.

Artificial Intelligence
Is it ethical? (13) Scientists have been experimenting with AI for quite some time in the field of robotics. One issue
that people have been skptical over is how dangerous would AI become. Im sure many people have seen
movies like I-Robot and Bicentennial man. The idea of a robot having its own mind, conscience, and
free is appalling to most. The main problem is that if robots or "androids/cyborgs" can learn, they
can eventually get smarter than humans and deem us as obsolete. They may also one day decide that
they no longer want to listen to commands. Or they may stumble upon an engineerin....
Website Development Compared To Application Software Development

The first thing that I notice is that there is a lot of technology with fancy acronyms.

design a functional and attractive website. But if you want to develop application software, you
just need to learn a language - thats it. Any one language is sufficient for you to develop a full
