thank you very much for these links. i will try to download everything then i will try which one would be easier to use and would be very good on designing websites. I am very thankful for these things because i have also started doing html scripts and syntax from the scratch, and with these free downloadable website editors beginners could easily design good websites without spending too much money.

I currently use Notepad (I will probably starting using Note Pad 2 though ), Web Easy Professional (With FTP Max) and CoffeeCup.com HTML Editor FREE Version. Thanks for those links though. I might use them one day. P.S. I used to use HTML Kit when I didn't know HTML, or what it was really.

I agree that a lot of WYSIWYG editors produce lots of junk code...straight text editors are much better (if you know what you're doing). I've found nothing wrong with notepad, except that it's difficult to transition between it and a unix text editor due to use of a mouse. So I use vim on both windows and unix machines to do all my web coding; this way I can stay consistant. I love how vim color codes the work I'm doing too...that way when I forget a $ in front of variable if I'm using Perl/PHP, I notice it right away. EditPlus is nice too though; it's what we have at work. It's easier to use than notepad in that it has the color coding feature and you can ssh into the server. But I still prefer vim

Great list! I currently use a mix of Notepad and Notepad ++, but I think I'll give some of these a go to see what they are like. Some of them look very nice by looking at their sites and screenshots

QUOTE(Seidhrith @ Oct 25 2007, 03:22 PM) I have used nvu for a while now. And no offense to it, cause its a solid html editor, but i find sometimes that it freezes on me, and other little things that just bug me. I'm going to try some of the other editors on the list. I bet all these programs are good and have very distinct features. No single editor is right for every person. Lyon was wise to have a list of ones he recommended. Its all a matter of taste I am a newbie at website development and i have been using nvu as well. I find it to be a very good program with wysiwyg and source code functions. Sometimes it does act a tad laggy, and im running 2gb dual channel, e6300, so it might be a little memory hog, although ive never checked the task manager to verify. I like the interface however with ftp capabilities and easy to understand tools. I will continue to use it most of all because it is open source (linspire).

A Text Editor that will remove multiple line returns
The Best And Free Website/html Editors + Text Editors
I seem to pick up a lot of text files that have multiple line returns between paragraphs. My needs for text editing are very simple, little beyond notepad, but finding one that will search for and replace all multiple line returns down to a predefined one or two, isn't going very well. A second point. In writing this I am finding the text position has jumped and I'm over-writing or inserting text in previous lines, this seems to happen a lot particularly in Outlook Express and Notebook, its happened twice whilst I've written the last 4 lines. Does anyone else have this problem. And is there an easy way to eliminate it. Many thanks for any advice you can give. -question by Dave Thomson
